Curvy Model Challenges Rigid Victoria's Secret Model Standards By Posing In Their Lingerie
2.3Mviews
Brooklyn-based lingerie model Tabria Majors has fighting words for Victoria’s Secret, but all she really needed was three Instagram photos to prove her point. To draw attention to the rigid beauty standards demonstrated by the company’s ad campaigns, she posed in a few of her favorite pieces of the season and looked absolutely bomb. If this doesn’t prove that curvy girls can sell just as many undies as the size-2 VS ‘angels’ seems intent on exclusively using, we don’t know what will (skinny girls, we love you too; we just think there needs to be more diversity going on).
“Maybe I’ll be a Victoria’s Secret Angel this year for Halloween since it ain’t happening in real life,” the plus-size model captioned the steamy set of photos, which has now reached the viral amount of more than 27 thousand likes. This is only the latest clap back a curvy model has leveled at the lingerie empire; runway star, photo model and body positivity spokesperson Ashley Graham has been vocal about being shunned by the brand on multiple occasions, and even did a campaign with Lane Bryant that said it all with a simple hashtag – #ImNoAngel. Perhaps it’s time for these guys to get the memo?
We’ll let you scroll down and decide for yourself.
More info: Instagram, Twitter (h/t)
This is Tabria Majors, a Brooklyn-based model who just singled out Victoria’s Secret for their lack of diversity
The lingerie empire is known for only featuring small models in their ads, which is just so outdated
To prove that curvy girls can sell just as many undies, she recreated (and slayed) a few recent campaigns
“Maybe I’ll be a Victoria’s Secret Angel this year for Halloween, since it ain’t happening in real life”
She’s only the latest plus-size model to take aim at the Pink producers, joining the ranks of Ashley Graham
The Internet, as you might have guessed, was 100% here for it
Is it time for VS to start changing their ways? Tell us your thoughts below!

I hate the whole "it's a real woman" bit. Curvy women are real women, skinny women are real women, tall short whatever.
This is true. I am skinny, always have been, does that mean I'm not a "real woman"? So annoying. I don't mind any body shapes. I don't care how other women look like. Everyone is "real" and beautiful in it's own way!!!
Yessssssss. Because Clearly women who are thin are some sort of ... alien or animal.
YESS! And may I say that I ABSOLUTELY LOVE YOUR NAME!
Yes exactly! This is getting old. If you have two X chromosomes, then you are a real women. Period.
Exactly. And if you don't have two X chromosomes, you're not a real woman.
Thank you.
agreed - i really dislike this one-directional thinking. Also the wording... plus size woman are not per se curvier than thiner women. Besides there are a lot of other companies selling plus size lingerie etc - if victoria secret does not - who gives a fuck. And btw - it seems they got a reason for that: http://www.businessinsider.de/the-real-reason-victorias-secret-doesnt-sell-plus-sizes-2016-3?r=US&IR=T So get your facts straight before you jump on the train.

"Plus-size apparel requires a different pattern, and many budding designers are not taught how to design for these sizes when they're in school, as model Melissa Aronson (aka Emme) told Business Insider in July." Pffffffffffft. That's a really stupid reason. They can't be bothered creating the infrastructure needed for that demographic- an additional factory, better educated designers, etc.- but that doesn't excuse them. Also, the woman in this BoredPanda article proved that in some cases their argument that curvy women just wouldn't look as good in the same garments is bullshit. They're the biggest retailer. Women like to shop there. But hey, they can just shop on Amazon, am I right? Insulting. Who gives a fuck? They do. I do. Lots of people do.
I wish they would just say more diverse body types or something to that affect. I’m plus sized and I don’t consider myself any realer than skinny women.
It really all depends on your body's metabolism, genetics, etc. That said, there really needs to be a greater variety in body types for models. There's more than one type of sexy body.
Thank you. Can't agree more. Like in what kind of world do we live to have to shame one type of person, just to bring another kind to shine? Both can be equally beautiful and both are real.
Yup! I was in a campaign for a lingerie brand here in Norway to promote that. I'm 4'9'' and 77 lbs. I'm a real woman! I always feel forgotten when it comes to body positivity, so I spoke up! The campaign ofc also featured women in different sizes and ages.

i completely zgree with you, but does VS really show real women? I personally would have to say not. I don't consider girls who starve and get surgery to be a model 'real women'.
People can be naturally very thin.

Media glamorizes skinny women and shames/ignores curvier women (who probably represent a larger portion of the population). Which is why they don't show up in catalogs like this. And it's totally not fair. But no, every time we focus on that, we're treating skinny women poorly or whatever.
Surely, you don't mean "curvier" when speaking of plus-sized women...You mean 'fat'. Fat is the opposite of skinny. If you're going to call slender, slim, normal-sized women "skinny", then you mean to call the opposite of such, 'fat'!! Skinny is NOT some sort of flattery to those of us who are not overweight, nor skinny. Thank you.
"A real sized person!" So what, because I'm naturally thin and tall, I'm not real and worth less then heavier people? Seriously I haven't seen one bored panda article that makes thin people feel better about themselves, it's only about boosting overweight people's egos.
I'm 5'4" and I'm overweight and I just wanted to tell you I completely agree with you. I am working hard to get my weight down and so far so good. I know it is unhealthy to be this big. Glamorizing being overweight is not good for society at all! And those of you who are naturally tall and thin definitely don't deserve to have your self-esteem torn down!

They have their self esteem torn down once in a billion occasion in this world glorifying thin and skinny bodies. No it's not ok to create this frontier between women, qualifying them as real and not real, ok and not ok for society, but thin people aren't making me crying when they feel underestimated about their weight and body type in one article, while plus size women are underestimated everyday of their lives in magazines, adds, boutiques, etc. We are all real and beautiful, but please, don't play the victim when you are not.
yeah, I'm slim, athletic and have low body fat, cause I train hard, feel so unreal right now :P
I'm in a wheelchair, don't have any accessible gyms to use and a side effect of medications I use is weight gain. We are ALL real.
Yes, I also don't like how people boost their self-esteem at someone else's cost. Every time a guy hits on me by badmouthing skinnier people (or shorter, or darker, or paler, or people with tatoos or any other kind of people) I just get out and leave. It just proves he's a mean small-minded person and it's offensive to assume I will feel flattered by putting other girls down. So I'm all with you. Still, you kind of just did the same thing. You feel frustrated by lack of equal representation in articles on Bored Panda? Then imagine how frustrated big people are by lack of equal representation in real life. So please don't jump into hate competition just because you were the less privileged for once.
I personally think all body types have their ups and downs. As a very tall woman, it's sometimes awkward to be among my much shorter peers, but then again I like being tall. Everyone should be comfortable with how they were born and accept the difficulties and benefits that come along 😊
When my son was in his 20's people would always comment on how thin he was, He would reply, "If I was fat, you wouldn't say anything about it." Why do people think insulting thin people is ok?
Well... I do really hate ppl constantly fighting invisible wars to be honest. This whole justice warrior shit is getting really old really fast
Ummmm I'm sorry but, skinny people are always in the spotlight.Be cool with yourself and take a compliment.... lots of people would stop eating to be your size honey.... Take your ego and have compassion towards other people...because everything can't be about everyone. Also I always say don't be jealous, be happy for. :)
Look, I do agree that the media has glamourized extremely thin no
People, but the media should focus encouraging thin people to gain weight and overweight people to lose weight, so both groups can be equal and healthy.
It's referred like that because every ad out there and the society in general will say that a woman NEEDS to be thin, tall, want children and be in a relationship or else she is "not a woman".
What ad says you have to be thin or tall to be a real woman?
You're right... I mean, there aren't magazines after magazines after tv show after tv show after billboard ad after billboard all about how beautiful you are IF you're skinny... right? I think this is a perfect example of how you can flip ANYTHING into a "poor me" argument.. Hilarious.
Ok, I'm done being nice. Unless you unfortunately have a health problem (I apologize, this doesn't apply to you) then I believe that overweight people don't have self-control, because they let themselves become so overweight through overeating. It is unhealthy, and why in the world would the media feature unhealthy Humans to attract positive attention.
Hence why i said these are used to boost obese people's egos ;-;
The whole world makes thin people feel good about themselves. What you're saying is like wanting a hetero pride parade.
What would be so wrong with that? Prejudice much?

Actually it makes sense to have a wider variety of models. Different people appreciate different body types and different types of beauty, so it would make economic sense to try to appeal to more than one demographic, wouldn't it? I'm sick of always looking at the same type of models anw, they all start looking the same after awhile!
unfortunately market analysis shows that for certain type of goods the more conventionally beautiful the model is - the better are the sales. This category includes appearance-related goods, like clothes or makeup. People are more attracted to the "dream", that's why there is also this shit load of photoshop in ads, looking absolutely unrealistic. The psycology underneath it is that buying this lingerie will help you look a tiny bit more like that gorgeous model on the picture. Like you're buying part of that along with the lingerie. (If we think (!) about it we of course know that a bra is just a bra, not a magic wand, but it's how it unconsciously works)
That's much too reality-grounded for most people who read this, but you're absolutely right. And the target market is who -- women ? I don't think so. Victoria's Secret isn't stupid, they know who keeps them in business.
But isn't she a gorgeous model? She is an aspirational beauty, that makes me feel that if I would wear these clothes I would look as good as her. I wonder if these test really include models like her?
Psychological studies and analysis also show that we tend to love and find beautiful what we are used seeing. So saying that we are most likely to love and buy the conventionnal beauty is a shortcut and an easy excuse for the industry to not even try to change. In fact, it ignores the capacity of people to find beauty elsewhere. We just need to see that it exists. Why do we think that the thin tall white and blonde girl is the «conventionnal beauty» ? Because we see it everywhere.
people have tried to start lingerie biz for larger women, They go on TV get other women to say that's great, But sorry they don't make it
Well said!
You've actually just described why I don't spend any money on this industry. It exists because of women's low self esteem and I honestly feel perfect the way that I am.
Yeahhh I guess so.
Bullshit. I personally think the curvier model looked BETTER in these garments. The shots of her made me more interested in the product. I can't possibly be in the minority with that- lots of dudes like curvy ladies, and it's not THAT hard to make them look hot in photo ads. You just need to hire the right people. I think the fashion industry has become something of an echo chamber of its own nonesense.
Not to mention beside being appreciated models also have the job of giving potential customers the rough idea of how clothes look when worn. I am size 22 and if I only see a dress on 4-sized model it won't even get my attention.
@Philip Moderow Yeah, and that translates to dress sales how?
But it will probably get the attention of the man in your life !
It doesn't if you don't want to change your Brand and image of what your company stands for. Changing the line up of "wider variety of models" doesn't mean increased revenue on all fronts. They've tried to accommodate this idea in 2014 and it was a disaster as it affected the value of the brand and sales went down. You have stores like Lane Bryant who cater to individuals who are above average in size who are capable of making the same style. Point is there are more slim women in the market purchasing small sizes than average to large women. From a business stand point why would you cater to the smaller group when the larger majority is your main cash flow?
But it's self-perpetuating: those slim women are probably purchasing because the products are made and catered to them. Also, media glorifies slim women. Average to large women maybe don't know what looks hot on them because nobody's been arsed to design things specifically for their size, they haven't seen curvier women in lingerie ads or in most other visual media, it's harder to find stuff that fits them, etc etc etc. There is no market for them because the industry can't be bothered to get off its ass and do it properly, and justifies its ignorance with "but they don't buy as much". They don't buy as much maybe because there's less for them to buy. Duh.
I hate the whole "it's a real woman" bit. Curvy women are real women, skinny women are real women, tall short whatever.
