Apparently, Pencil Scars Are A Thing And There Are More People Affected Then You Would Think
230Kviews
The Internet and social media really does bring us together. How? Well, as one person once put it: “it turns out we were all living the same childhood in different houses.” It is extremely pleasant to find out that someone living thousands of miles away from you, had similar experiences in their childhood. For instance, the majority of us know the frightening feeling of when mom asked you to take out that chicken from the freezer and you didn’t. Or when your parents would walk into your room only to find all the dirty cups, plates and forks laying around. Or when your dad used to fall asleep on the couch with his arms crossed on his chest, but would suddenly wake up when you wanted to change the channel on TV. But this writer recently brought up something new and made us remember the traumas we even forgot we had.
H/t Buzzfeed.
Recently, this guy asked Twitter to share traumatic stories from people’s childhoods

This is literally a tattoo. Pigment inserted in the deep layers of the skin with a sharp object.
Oh no, I've lied to Canadian Blood Services!
LOL, I think they would be ok with this... Australian blood service .." You can only donate blood 4 months after getting a tattoo" So if it was five months you'd be welcomed.__________https://www.donateblood.com.au/eligibility#can-i-give-blood

The one in the eyeball itself just makes me shudder
Me too. Made me cringe and shudder. That was close. Ouch ouch ouch
IKR! I had to scroll past real fast.
I'm 71. Got mine in the 4th grade. Hadn't thought of it in years. It's very faint, but it's still in the palm of my hand. What a trip!
I'm 66 and I'd forgotten which hand it was in but yup, still there.
It's not lead, it's graphite. It would be dangerous if it were lead.
Yep graphite the nurse put some rubbing alcohol on mine and a band-and sent me on my way.
Thank you for that clarification Daria. Something I worried about for decades.
No problem. I know my drawing tools. Stay safe. ♥
I actually wondered about that once and went looking. Because everyone talks about "pencil lead" and then you hear about lead poisoning. So yes, good point!

My right hand, from when I was 12 - I will be 60 in August IMG_201901...1ed58b.jpg
Ouch. That looks like it was a bad one
Omg, you really screwed it. How did you done that? Hope it didn't passed through hand :S
I love this thread!! I don't have a pencil lead tattoo myself, but this makes me feel more comfortable in the world somehow :-) maybe next time we can do dog bite scars or pox scars so I can pitch in as well :-D
DITTO!!! =) =)
Yes for pox scars! So happy that there is anvaccine now, but wish it came about a decade or so earlier. Also, shingles ugh
I have a scar, but it has no pigment. Just a dot on my finger.
LMAO I love your sarcasm
I have one on my left hand from when I was four and I tried to do that thing where you pretend the mechanical pencil is a syringe and 'inject' it in you. I went a little too fast.
I used to have a mechanical pencil that was shaped like a syringe. I would freak my teachers out with it, but after they saw it was harmless they'd just laugh, raise an eyebrow, shake their head and walk away. These days I'm sure they'd ban it.
you say "pencil scar," I say "pencil tattoo"
I..... I have three of these on my hands. Being a child who loved to draw, write, and run was not a good combination. But it isn't really that noticeable.
I had one in my hand and dug it out with a pair of compasses a few weeks later during math..I had to dig very deep and had a hole that had to be stitched (I am stubborn)...now I have a scar instead (facepalm)
Wow, that's dedication!
in 8th grade during art/painting class this boy poked me from behind with his paintbrush. repeatedly. i was wearing new pullover i got from my grandma. so i got pissed and just reached/stabbed back when i fell the brush on my back again. bullseye. stabbed him into forearm. i didn't get in trouble and for the rest of the school he didn't bothered me anymore.
Great job
When I was 11 my older sister wanted to kill me with pencil. Still after 22 years there is a memory on my shoulder of these old good times :-D
Hi bro😊. She probably just wanted to protect me (little sister). The good old days...😊
It was just a game. I would never really hurt you, just wanted to make you crazy. I love hysterical women. I love my sisters. :-D
So cute!!!
Sounds exactly like my big sister.
We love you too brother😘😊
i used to have like 3 or 4 pieces of pencil led stuck in my hands and arm so i took a pocket knife and dug them out one of the pieces was almost a centimeter long after 30 mins i had dug all of them out and my tweeers were covered in blood but now i have cool little scars (I DONT RECOMMEND DOING THIS IT HURT LIKE A BITCH IF I HAD FUCKED UP I EASILY COULD HAVE SLIT MY WRIST I WAS JUST A IDIOT 12 YEAR OLD SO DONT DO THIS)
tweezers*
I had a couple of these, and ground them out completely with a small stone attachment using a 12V hobbies drill, leaving no pencil lead at all, I had one in my lower lip (the natural pigment in the lip was not removed by making a small hole in the lip as I ground out the pencil lead), and one in my chest, both the results of 'stabbings' at school.
When I was a kid I cut countless slivers out of me. Freeze the area with an ice cube first and it barely hurts.
oof
I have one on my arm from 1970-something. And it's not lead, it's graphite.
Mine's been there since about 1960 something.
I also have one!
We are no longer alone :)
We are all alone, together.
I'm 66 and still have one on my right knee from 6th grade. Ruth Ann Barrett stabbed me with her pencil there because I was feeling up her leg. (Like many girls that age, she had just started wearing hose and I loved the feeling of a leg in hose. Since I'm bi, I guess it wouldn't have mattered whether it was a girl or boy wearing them.)
I just use the eraser and erase the mark and wala done
I know I have one but I've forgotten where at this point.
...applauds your pun. Did you do that on purpose?
Whaddya know! I have one too, in the middle of my left palm. My cousin put a pencil in a dart gun and shot me, fortunately I put my hand up in time, otherwise it would've hit my face. (He wasn't being mean, just rough horseplay between three of us.) I still have the scar after about 47 years now. Also have a similar spot on my left index finger from getting stabbed with a diaper pin while changing a diaper, lol.
Those old diaper pins were so dangerous! Insanely sharp and had to use a lot of force to open or close them.
I’m 70 and have pencil lead stuck in my leg where my sister stasbbed me 63 years ago. Rob W
Friend in primary school got stabbed with a lead pencil. Tiny piece broke off. As an adult, she had to have surgery to get it removed. Cant remember why now, but it was doing something or making something happen in her body, being a foreign object. Just took about 15 or so years to do it. Hi Fiona! Sorry that shitty kid did that. (cant remember her last name, or Shitty Kid name lol)
LOL, I love all the story sharing. My daughter got one in her finger last year, 4th grade. I will share this story with her. And before I hear any naysayers, she didnt show me until this year.
I have one in my arm, courtesy of playing tag with a pencil in my pocket during recess.
I HAVE ONE TOO! I thought I was the only one! I felt so silly. Like who else has a scar from a pencil?! Haha
Left knee, playing GI Joes with my brother and kneeled on the pencil. Not sure how the physics of that worked exactly, but I've always figured it would be a way to ID my body (because I'm morbid like that). My mom has one in her arm.
I have one in the middle of my right thumb. I think i got it in kindergarten.
My scar was when my friend got upset at me while I was writing down a math problem on the blackboard and slammed it into my hand, not knowing the lead had broken off and my hand was bleeding like F*** and was imbedded deep in my hand; For crying out loud! I was 8! Sidenote: It still is highly visible and directly in the back of my right hand.
My brother has a pencil scar. When my sister and brother were little, my sister got a pencil, thinking it was the eraser side, and stabbed his wrist. It started bleeding a lot. Then my mom grabbed a pencil and started chasing my sister around, trying to do the same. This is what my brother and sister told me since I wasn't born at that time.
I have one but by a pen!
Am I the only one?
I thought I was the only one too! When I was 12 I sharpened my pencil and put it on my desk, and a few seconds later the boy next to me picked it up, and out of nowhere stabbed me in the hand! I still have the grey dot in the skin between my thumb and forefinger :(
I don't have lead in my body but I do have scars from a boy, Aaron Wheeler, who would rub his pencil on his desk to get it hot, then touch it on my arm. White spots that never tan. Grade 5 stupidness
That's crazy!
I can't post my lead pencil scar because it's on the inner check of my butt. My sister purposefully put a sharpened pencil on my chair when I was 8 or 9 and I sat on it and it literally broke off in my... Yeah. Gotta love your older siblings.
LED. Light emitting diode. But the LEAD in a pencil is graphite. Settle down, Beavis.
Shut up Butthead. I'll kick your ass.
I had one for years. A coworker said I should have a doctor look at it. Turned out I still had a piece of “lead” in it from 15 years earlier! Now I have a scar where it got cut open instead of a mole looking spot.
Right hand, middle finger, was using a sharpened pencil UPSIDE DOWN to show my sister what middle C was on the piano. I was 5, I'm 51 and it's still there like a young stupidity branding.
I had one on my thumb, but it faded away.
My brother had one at the back of his mouth. He was two and walking with a pencil in his mouth and fell.
oh no ! *I'm wincing with my entire body*.
I was 10. I and my brother got into a fight, he forgot that he had a pencil in his hand when he took a defensive crouch, I stomped and got the tip impaled. Somehow the lead had moved sideways inside the skin while i tried to walk. I couldn't remove it on my own, went into minor OT.
I have one on the outside of my left leg. More than 30 years old.
Mine is in my Left palm...got it in 6th grade (in the late 1970's) when I smacked my hand on the table, yelling "I got it!!" When solving a tricky math problem. Yes, I grossed everyone out ... the pencil was stuck in my hand - had to be walked to the nurse's office because teacher was afraid I would faint when it was pulled out.
Did you at least get to share your revelation? Well, at least you got a good story to tell.
Ditto but mine is in my middle finger... Yeah. I was that kid.
Yup kindergarten kid stabbed me in my hand been 11 years now
I managed to stab myself with pencils a lot. Don't have any scars from the pencils but I do have a scar on my right palm from when I stabbed myself with a pen in high school. Never got the ink out and it's still pretty visible. And technically it's my first tattoo.
DAMN pencils are dangerous. Imma stay away from them now and stick to digital drawing 😕
This is me!
In grade 7, I stabbed my crush with a pencil in the leg. (We sat side by side and he teased me a lot). 25 years later, after him becoming a widow, and myself divorced, both having kids..we have reunited and have created a beautiful blended family. In love with the one that has never left my thoughts since grade 7.
In grade 7, I stabbed my crush with a pencil in his leg cause he would tease me a lot (we sat side by side). 25 years later, after living separate lives, lots of inbetweens, having kids and ups and downs of a divorce and the other becoming a widow, we have reunited and created a beautiful blended family and still in love with that grade 7 crush that actually was stuck in my thoughts throughout all those years.
My mum has a bright blue one in her forehead from when the boy stabbed her aged 4
Yep. Right hand palm. I'm in the 90 percentile.
I have one too, lol
It's graphite, not lead.
Can you see it? to the left of my middle fingers knuckle. Rough-housing around with my cousin as you do when he stabbed me with a pencil. Thanks, Josh. led-scar-5...4bd0fe.jpg
5th grade. Was bored and trying to twirl my pencil. Failed miserably. Long story short am 26 with the graphite mark still visible in dead center of the top-most joint of my middle finger on my right hand.
Awesome to find out I'm not alone with my self inflicted tattoo!
I have one of those! I got it when I was a really little kid and I don't remember how it happened.
Second grade. I was seven & the boy that sat next to me jabbed at me with his freshly sharpened # 2 pencil. It bled, scabbed up & within two weeks when the scab came off the graphite was still imbeded above my left knee cap. 65 years later still have the black “dot”.
I was 4, my sister was 2-ish. We were playing under the kitchen table. I have no idea where she got a freshly sharpened pencil, but she just stabbed me in the left shin for no reason. It's my only tattoo and still very visible 30+ years later.
I have one in my rear from a boy I beat to the chalkboard !
I have a little dot in the bend of my elbow. I was 7, running home from the bus stop. I had on my backpack with a pencil sticking out of the side pocket. I was so excited and couldn't wait to get home so i could go meet my new baby brother. it's literally been there since the day he was born.
Left hand in between the thumb and pointer. Tried to grab a pencil from deep within my pocket
I love this post! I have one on my hand from 3rd grade bullies. As horrible as it may sound, I'm glad to see other people have this mark as well and shared how they got them. It's nice knowing you aren't alone!
I have one on the left side of my right kneecap. I got it from running with a pencil in my hand.
Got one as well.. got accidentally stabbed by best friend in the right palm when I was 11. 39 now, and you can still see it.. I am also a teacher, and regularly show the scar to my students. They are fascinated!
Ragnhild Karlsen no
Man i really was surprised at how many people have pencils tips stuck in them, I sat on a pencil when i was 5 and now I have a pencil tip in my butt
I really had no idea so many people had pencil tips stuck in them, I sat on a freshly sharpened pencil, now I have a pencil tip in my butt.
Junior High. Right thigh and left forearm. That was almost 50 years ago, so to everyone... It'll be with you for life!
I have a lead pencil tattoo point from grade school in my left upper arm, someone stabbed me.
I have one in my upper arm from the third grade (I was 8) when a girl sitting next to me got tired of my teasing her and stabbed me with her pencil. My own starter tattoo. Miss that sweetheart. 😆
I have it in my left palm! Sharpening pencils for the class at school, kids came over to take them before I was finished and I put my hand over the top to stop them - stabbed in the hand and still there today!
Got stabbed in my leg with a pencil when I was in my early teens. Had no idea this was a "thing", lol
I've one of those on my right hand. Thanks to my friend. (We literally have friendship tattoos)
My 39-year-old brother-in-law has led in his upper right bicep from a friend stabbing him as they passed in the hallway in high school.
Yes! This is awesome fun....I stabbed myself in the knee when I was three years old. I have a dark single stab mark in graphite woad color. What puzzles me is how I have 2!!!!! Did I not feel the first stab? I must have stabbed myself twice. I can only imagine it was due to my parent's divorce then.
Amazing!! I dont even remember exactly how i got mine, was a quick movement dodging something and stabbed myself a bit below the left elbow protecting my face, the led came out about 6-8 months later, but the scar is still pretty vivid 12 years later!
One on the palm of my hand. Been there for at least 4 years
I can't claim I did mine in grade school. I was an adult at work, and somehow managed to get myself in the hand. Thought I was the "only one" too!
I got mine in kindy. Played aeroplane with a pencil then stabbed myself in the finger. I never noticed the scar until 6 years later, in year 5.
Just above my left knee is a very straight .5cm line that slowly moved up my leg as I grew taller. I was bored, drew a line a bit too heavy got my first ink.
i have lead on top of my foot. doing homework crossed legged on my bed, i leaned forward to get something and my pencil went into my foot. 40+years ago
My brother has a piece of pencil lead which has turned green in his leg. He has had it for years. He always liked to agitate me & i warned him to stop it but he didn't so I stabbed him with the pencil which left a mark on him for life.
Omg I thought I was the only one with this basically I was 6 and I let this boy in my class borrow my sharpener he sharpened his pencil then started sword fighting with this other guy I put my hand out to stop him and got stabbed
Got one in my left kneecap. It's been there for 40 years
I was stabbed in the hand with a pencil by a bully when I was 14 y/o. Still have this permanent reminder of this dickhead on my knuckle.
My big sister hated me. One of the scars is bit of pencil in my upper arm.
Got one in my pinkie since kindergarden
Got it since i was 10 years old and now im 27, still there.. stuck forever.. thought its just me.. lol
And I thought I was the only one. I have had a little graphite tattoo from a pencil accident since I was six or seven years old, although is is almost entirely faded away now, 45 years later.
Back of my right calf. Stabbed by a pencil sticking out of my duffle bag. (7th grade)
My left knee, fourth grade. Turned in my seat and ran the pencil in my hand right into my leg. Worse? It was my first week at a new school, and I was too scared to tell the teacher. It wasn't until she saw the blood running down my leg that I told her what happened.
Pencils are Graphite. The lead pencil (which contains no lead), was invented around 1560. After the discovery of a graphite mine in Borrowdale, Cumbria, England. True lead pencils consisted of a thin rod of soft lead, and were no longer used by the early to mid 1500s NO RUNNING IN THE HALLS!!!!!
I have one in my leg its been there for 3-4 years
Got stabbed in the right arm as a kid, on the bus. Some guy did it and it was a raised scar forever. Now there is just the black dot there..
We had elections one night at our Scout Meeting. I was stacking the little pencils and jabbed one into my left palm. Still have "the mark".
It's NOT lead, people! It's graphite. Major difference. Pencils don't contain lead.
I have one on my right thigh. A kid in my class when I was 8-9 stabbed me with his pencil. Teacher did nothing, Principal did nothing, parents did nothing. Which was par for the course when I was a kid, so it's no surprise I have zero compassion for anyone.
OMG! I have one, too. I though I am only :D I got mine while I am trying to make something like Chinese bun hairstyle. I often did that until I stabbed myself in right hand. I don't remember how old I was, maybe 4th or 5th grade :D
LOL I have one on the inside of my upper thigh... fourth grade knocked a pencil out of my desk slapped my legs together to catch it well ended up ramming the pencil through my jeans into my leg... teacher was afraid to touch it I pulled it out and calmly asked to go to the nurse... FYI I am now 42.
is it actually peices of lead? Or just marks from the pencil?
It is definitely a foreign body in there under my skin.* and under other people's. But graphite not lead.
ok thx
My right outer thigh I sat directly on a mechanical pencil and the lead broke off basically on my butt and it hurt REALLY bad
Does it count as a tattoo?
Mine does now :P
I can't resist. There's an ugly typo in the title :(
I have one, side of my knee, drive a girl crazy and she stabbed me with a pencil in high school :D I could have been paralyzed but luck was on my side that time.

My mother sat on a pencil many years ago. For the rest of her life, she'd tell people she had lead in her ass.
Right breast...no, I’m not posting a picture! Was running down the hall in 7th grade, ran into a senior who was carrying his books at his side with a pencil as a bookmark.
I tried to find out if I had any since I am an artist and draw alot but no. Only a tiny red dot in my palm from slamming down on something sharp when I was a kid. Its been 20+ years just begone already!
Mine is in my right pinky finger, got it when I was 5. I'm in my 70s now. I, too, didn't realize it was common!
I'm 55 and mine's still there--I pointed the eraser of my pencil at a girl in third grade and was lecturing her about how the kid from The Courtship of Eddie's Father was better looking than Donny Osmond (hey, it was third grade), and she jammed my pencil into my hand. I remember being convinced I'd get "lead poisoning."
*than
Got one in my foot by the ankle. Katherine Young stabbed me during an assembly for some reason. I got into trouble for yelping out loud!
I truly thought I was the only one. People always thought I was weird when I told them the mark was a piece of lead.
Sorry to be pedantic but the "lead" in lead pencils is actually graphite, which is much less toxic.
Then you think what?
i have one in my knee :)
I got mine cause of a classmate. He took my pencil without asking and when I tried to get it back he just stabbed it into my palm
In 7th grade science class, I had just sharpened my pencil. I stabbed myself somehow in the cuticle of my pointer finger of my right hand. I figured it would grow out. Sadly, it never did...
I got mine in my lower middle finger by getting to the pencil sharpener before Billy A did! As I was finishing my pencil, holding it up for him to see, he said "girls stink, by Antwerp!" then stabbed his pencil into my finger! That was clear back in 1969, and I still have the lead in it!
In Grade 3 I I was waving my pencil right as my classmate Alex was leaving forward ... Face meet pencil. I saw him again in grade 10 and the mark was still there on his cheek.
One time in grade 3 I was waving my pencil as my classmate Alex was leaning forward ... face meet pencil. Saw him again in Grade 10 and the mark was still there.
In the 80”s, in third grade, my very disturbed classmate stabbed me in the back with my “I *heart* Jesus” pencil I got from Sunday school. No reason, I just bent over to pick up a crayon. Kid ruined my favorite turtleneck with tiny rainbow ice cream cones all over it. He gave me an “I’m sorry” cadr with a pack of 101 Dalmatian stickers, but I never went near him again. I still have the mark.
That's fucking adorable.
Omg I have a tiny one on my hand and I thought I was the only one! 😲 👁 💢 ☝🏾🖐🏾 💭 👁 ☝🏾
69 years old, got mine in 8th grade. Two girls talking to each other, one in front and one in back, one stabbed me for asking them to stop. It’s still there.
69 years old, mine happened in 8th grade. The girl in front of me kept talking to the girl behind me and I asked them to stop because I was trying to study. The one in front stabbed me in the inside corner of my elbow. Still there!
Mine is in the palm of my right hand on the left side. Faint but I can still see it. Went to stab my brother with the lead end, got myself. He retaliated later by shooting me through a glass window in the door with a BB gun and got me under the eye. Lots of blood, still have my eye. He was afraid he'd gotten me there with all the blood.
I'm not alone! I got mine from putting my legs on the sofa as I was sitting down. Pencil sticking up between the cushions stuck in my knee
I have one in the middle of my forehead where a kid in preschool stabbed me with 32 years ago and still there.
I have one on the side of my big toe.
Omg. I thought I was the only one!
I think I have one!
Was going down the stairs with pencil in back pocket, slipped and pencil stuck in inside of right forearm...mark still there.
DAMN OK i have one on the inside of my right thigh. please don't ask why.
Got one in the center of my right hand!! It was 7th grade, I walking down the hall with the pencil point in my hand (no idea how stupid this was!), some kid was running towards me and pummeled me from a full speed! When I stood back up, the pencil was hanging out of my open palm down hand.. I'm 43 now, I can still see it clearly!
I think I have one on my right palm, right under my index finger
I have one on my left palm and got it from a dumb thing - I had chocolate that I wanted cut in half and was a) too lazy to grab a knife and b) too lazy to cut it on any other surface other than my hand, apparently.
3rd grade, fell asleep at my desk and got a pencil stuck in my cheek. Still have a small blue mark on my face
Stabbed my brother in the palm when we were kids. He just turned 40 and I still hear about it
I'm 42 and I can still just make out the pencil scar on my hand from elementary school
I thought it was just me! Mine is raised and you can feel the bit that is still in my hand 20 or so years later
Omg 3rd grade, on the side of my left index finger next to a natural beauty mark
the underside of my arm, my friend stabbed me in 5th grade with a mechanical pencil

Yours FADED? Mine is 25 years old. A few other people in this thread saying 50+ years. Huh.
Foreign bodies can migrate within tissue so it's also possible it fell out. There are stories of bullets coming out of people 60 years later.
Maybe if it wasn't as deep as some of the others? (As I reply to this, the OP has deleted their post)
I got mine in the 5th grade..a pencil in the back between my shoulder blades! I'm 63 yrs old and it hasn't faded at all :-( But I"ll never forget Johnny A. LOL
I have one of these on my thigh from running with a sharpened pencil in my pocket many moons ago.
I got one 45 years ago - still there! Good lesson to show kids about not running through the house with pencils, scissors, etc...
My daughter has one in her left bicep from when a boy with 'control ' issues stabbed her with a pencil in 2nd grade (year 1 in the UK). School were useless as the teachers were scared of his mum.
I've got one in my left index fingertip. I don't remember when or how but it's in there.
In my palm, just below my middle finger. A friend threw a mechanical pencil to me across the room, and i caught it the wrong way.
Got one in my knee and the other in my hand, 3rd and 7th grade respectively.
I have one stuck on my left index finger, right above where the "webbing" of the middle and index connect... Painful.
I'm 43 and I still have the piece in my hand.
I don't have any pencil lead in my body, surprisingly, since I drew through my youth and am a bit clumsy. But I do have tiny magenta dot just beneath the nail of my left ring finger that i got in high school.
A friend of mine has a piece of lead stuck in his forehead from accidentally stabbing himself.
I've had one in my palm since I was 6 or 7. I'm 41 now and it is almost gone.
Go mine 50 ish years ago. It is the same size and colour, but my arm is bigger and more freckled so it is harder to find.
The grossest thing about this article is not knowing the difference between “then” and “than”. (Sheesh, Bored Panda, can you not proof your headline??)

Well this really goes to show how stupid people can be. Stabbing yourself with a pencil for attention? Pathetic.

Some jive turkey shanked me when I was chillin' on the lunch line...i was gabbin' at his ex on the rebound, and he told me he'd fill me with lead if he saw me holla at her again. He wasn't playin'.
Damn are you seriuius? That sounds too legit to quit for realz

I actually wondered about that once and went looking. Because everyone talks about "pencil lead" and then you hear about lead poisoning. So yes, good point!
