“Well, back in my day…” says a twenty-something year old, reminiscing about “the good old days.” While that might sound funny, some people are old souls who might relate to the elderly more than they do with their own peers.

Many young(-ish) people, like yours truly, often find themselves agreeing with people a few generations older than themselves. Just take this post on Threads, for example: one user asked fellow netizens what is something that makes them go “I’m with the boomers on this one,” and many were eager to share, discussing all sorts of issues and situations. You can find them on the list below.

Two young children enjoying fries at a restaurant, representing perspectives on things boomers might be right about. Children should be well behaved in restaurants. Yes, you actually can teach them to stay in their seats, bottoms on the cushion and not screaming and running through the booth or climbing under tables. Don't poke the people at the next table:

I used to work in this brewpub back in 2005, We kept telling our hosts "NEVER EVER seat families with young children at Table 1". There was a fire alarm at that booth. Guess what happened EVERY WEEKEND. The hosts would seat kids at the booth they were expressly told not to. Kid yanks fire alarm. Again this happened at least once a week.

Also WEEKLY RELEASES. This new "binge" format of releasing all episodes at once is so, SO stupid. Everyone watches a season within two days, then the hype fades within a week, and all you can do is wait 2-3 years for a new season - and only if you're lucky and the show doesn't get canceled.

It's worse than that, companies are actively hiding their contact numbers so you cannot ring them. Recently I had to call Virgin Media about the final bill they sent me as was leaving them. The published number (once I found it) is fully automated and just gives you some blurb and tells you to go to the website. I had to use Google to find a different number where I did actually speak to someone once I was done screaming at the automated voice prompt as it didn't include an option to speak to a person. Saying that the person I did speak to was super helpful and explained everything clearly

Just like spam emails, spam calls annoy me to no end (so does Spellcheck, for that matter, which wrote “annoy” as “a phony” for some reason). I even have spam blockers on my phones, and they still get through.

My phone tracking me with everything I do. Checked out the place where the iPhone keeps track of this and immediately deleted a bunch of apps that were contributing to profiles on me even though some even said in TOS they didn’t do that. They have the right to change TOS at any time. Stop with all forms of surveillance cultures!

I find it really interesting that western governments bag China for collecting personal information. However, I'm pretty sure that private US companies, particularly Google and Apple, are far more interested in me, than the Chinese government would ever be.

Depending on the situation I text for record keeping purposes. Having a paper trail via text message is sometimes all you have.

Researching vs going on google. The library is a great place to read, cross reference and think before forming an opinion instead of doing an internet search, reading the first few lines of a random article and being self righteous about something that requires time to think about.

I actually would like to see the end of cards. I don't know what to do with them once I've read them. I feel so guilty throwing them away, especially with what they cost, but also I feel like I'm discarding the sentiment they express. Do I need to keep them all? Can we just go with verbal or text thank yous?

And salads too, couple bottles of water/tea, one frozen to keep stuff chilled, bring it to work. Saved thousands over the years.

If you are a sit down restaurant (vs fast food/take out place) please bring back real dishes/cutlery . I’m over it paying restaurant prices for paper plates and flimsy plastic forks.

Especially when you order something like a steak, and they give you the flimsy plastic stuff to cut and eat it with. Like, come the f**k on. You really expect me to cut my steak with a safety knife that’s guaranteed not to cut anything? Am I a child who can’t carry sharp objects or something?

Some of it is the OTT load of homework being given to even the youngest schoolchildren. I’m 64, and don’t remember having ANY homework until I was at least in 4th or 5th grade—-and that was minimal in itself. What it meant was I had time for play every day, inside and outside, in addition to recess at school. I wasn’t chained to my desk doing piles of homework until high school, and even then there were plenty of days I didn’t have much or any homework. Kids are burning out from the constant mental load, being overscheduled with activities (soccer practice, dance lessons, etc, some of which the parents make them do even if they’re it interested in them), and the lack of an outlet for their youthful energy. There has to be a balance to it all, instead of going so OTT with it. Kids aren’t machines. They can’t keep up such a busy pace without finally breaking down. So parents, dial it back a bit, ffs. Listen to your kids when they say they don’t want to play soccer or take dance lessons, and stop forcing them to go. Schools listen up. Forget the mountains of homework. Dump the No Child Left Behind teaching to the test and start actually teaching—-and both listen to ANd support your teaching staff. Quit forcing them to put up with unruly disruptive kids. Give them a process to either try to rehab the kids or get them out of normal classrooms and into specialized classes instead, with teachers specifically trained to teach difficult kids. And TELL the parents “NO!” when they’re in the wrong, ffs! You aren’t teaching any good lessons by letting the bad get away with bad behavior, and you are certainly doing a great disservice to your well behaved students by letting the bad seeds run the school. Shape up. Step up.

Surprise endings in movies not ruined by internet spoilers. Can you imagine if Planet of the Apes came out today? Being cheated of that shock? I still remember sitting in the theater at the end of Empire Strikes Back, my eyes going dry because I didn’t blink for about five minutes after that bomb was dropped

Modern dating culture/hook up culture ruined relationships. Men feel like they have multiple options for the first time ever so they’re always searching for the next best thing.
I do think women fall into the trap of constantly searching for the next best thing as well, but men go about it in such abrasive and disrespectful ways lol.

Knowing how to dress for the occasion. I am so tired of going to find dining restaurants having put a lot of effort into my appearance, hired a babysitter, the whole shebang… Then there’s a table of people who look like they came straight from a sweaty soccer game. Yes, I could be mad at the restaurant for not enforcing a dress code because there’s no universe where athletic clothes belong in places we are spending minimum $100 per person, but also why can’t people read the room?

I once booked a dinner on a fancy 1930's refurbished train. Every single web-page, printed material said that the dress code was strictly enforced. You even had to click a box saying that you understood and agreed to the dress code before your payment was processed. Sure enough, some dumbash showed up in cargo shorts and a tee shirt with his favorite band on it. I can't even tell you how happy I was when they refused to let him board. The ambiance is part of the experience that everyone is paying for, there's no reason you can't put on pants.
