Egyptian couple Dina Saad and Mahmoud Abdel Bary are national athletes, swimmers in fact, who just got engaged two days ago. They posted their pictures on Facebook which led to people sharing their photos with messages of love and congratulation, but sadly, social media is a double-edged sword. A cyber-mob rushed in with their bullying comments, attacking the couple. Some of them tried to force Saad to wear hijab, others bashed the parents for getting them engaged in the first place.
The comments are just absolutely hideous. What is wrong with people? How can someone go out of their way to make someone else’s day miserable, for no reason at all? How? How dare you tell them who they want to be or who they should? Honestly. Who died and made you king of anything?
Translation : For the group, who say they are beautiful .. They are really beautiful, but it is a crime against humanity because they are mentally handicapped
Translation : This marriage is false because they are unaware
The comments shed light on a major misconception Egyptians have adopted for years, and it’s that people with Down syndrome can’t get married because they’re not “modrekeen” which translates to aware of their surroundings (shown in the hateful comment below). Well, let me tell you that the National Down Syndrome Society have conducted a study and Down syndrome people are modrekeen. They can get married, they can give birth, and all the other things you say they can’t do.
Translation : Why not wear hijab
Translation : This marriage does not work, do not do anything without responsibility

Share on FacebookI'm so sorry this couple has has people saying this about them. I have been friends with many people with disabilities and just because someone has a mental disability does not mean they can't love. I myself have autism, but I am happily married.
