Paris Hilton brought Beauty and the Beast to life with her family for Halloween 2026, but her costume choice drew less-than-flattering reactions online.

The hotel heiress was accused of hogging the spotlight, with critics arguing that her young daughter should have taken center stage instead.

“This is so cringe. You can see the little girl feels a little down,” one person commented.

Highlights
  • Paris Hilton faced backlash for dressing as Belle while her daughter appeared as Chip.
  • Some defended the costumes, arguing that children often prefer supporting characters.
  • Hilton also drew criticism for recreating Britney Spears’s iconic 2001 VMAs look.

Notably, this was neither Hilton’s first Halloween look of the year nor the first time she faced criticism over her outfit.

Hilton shared a series of photos on Instagram on Monday, October 26, showcasing her family’s Halloween costumes ahead of the holiday.

In the pictures, she appeared as Belle from Disney’s iconic 1990s film, wearing the princess’s signature yellow gown adorned with red roses.

The custom was designed by Danyul Brown, the well-recognized British-born celebrity stylist whose clients have included John Legend, Yungblud, and Demi Lovato.

Hilton’s husband, Carter Reum, portrayed the Beast in a full-face mask, fuzzy gloves, and the character’s signature blue suit.

Their three-year-old son, Phoenix, dressed as Lumière, while their two-year-old daughter, London, appeared as Chip.

“My life is a fairytale, and the magic never ends,” Hilton wrote in the caption.

However, several social media users criticized the mother of two for supposedly denying her daughter the opportunity to dress as the princess.

“Stealing spotlight from kids is next level narcissistic,” one commenter wrote.

“She’s selfish and vain AF,” another added, while a third echoed the sentiment, saying, “She gives me such an ick.”

“I mean… it’s Paris Hilton, are we really surprised?” a fourth remarked.

    “Terrible,” exclaimed another.

One user, meanwhile, speculated, “London will be living in her mom’s shadow for her life.”

Hilton, however, was not without supporters.

Some argued that children often prefer dressing up as funky characters

“I am a mom, and I can guarantee you the girl asked to be Chip,” one person wrote, adding, “My kid went as Elphaba last year and made me be her Glinda.”

“My 3-year-old wanted to be Bearhead from Danny Go. They don’t always pick the main character,” another agreed.

A third defended Hilton’s decision, suggesting that London “wouldn’t last in the elaborate Belle dress.”

“There’s nothing wrong with a kid being dressed as a kid,” another user noted.

Several others questioned why adults should not be allowed to enjoy dressing up for Halloween, too.

“I’d be Belle in every lifetime,” one declared.

One user, meanwhile, also pointed out that dressing London as Belle while her father portrayed the Beast could have invited a different kind of criticism.

“I mean, having her daughter as Belle while her dad is the Beast is just a bit odd. There would be uproar at that too,” they wrote.

Britney Spears’s 2001 MTV Video Music Awards performance, during which she performed with a snake around her shoulders, has become iconic in the years since.

The look has also become a popular choice for celebrity Halloween costumes, with Elle Fanning recreating it with a fake snake in 2021.

Hilton, however, opted for the real thing, posing with a yellow reptile named Tango draped around her neck in homage to the pop star.

“I always had the utmost respect for Britney, but the fact that she performed at the VMAs with one of these around her neck is the most legendary thing that I’ve ever heard in my life,” Hilton said in a behind-the-scenes video shared on Instagram on October 23.

“Especially after experiencing it just in the hallways of my house, I can’t imagine being on stage performing in front of thousands of people with this around my shoulders. That is badass. I love you, Brit,” she added.

Hilton, though, faced backlash for allegedly disregarding Spears’s mental health struggles.

Paris Hilton’s Halloween recreation drew criticism over its insensitivity toward Britney Spears

“I’m not a Britney fan or supporter, but I could see an argument being made that it’s not super cool of a friend to cosplay as the height of that person’s beauty/popularity when that friend had become a sad shell of who they were when the costume was designed,” one Redditor wrote.

“Britney’s pop era should never be paired with Halloween,” another declared.

Some users also questioned the authenticity of Hilton and Spears’s friendship.

“Her friendship with Britney has always seemed superficial. They just partied for a wee bit in the 2000s,” one person commented.

“It was definitely self-serving. Paris probably invited Britney out to get more press coverage. I used to call her Parisite,” another alleged.

“Who cares,” a netizen said about Paris Hilton’s Halloween looks

I'm not sure how some woman's children's Halloween costumes are my business.

Glad I watched the video, when her son went under the dress saying, "it's like a tent" - she was such a patient mom. The kids were also front and center for the pictures, so all the narcissist comments are off the mark as well.

Can somebody remember all the mean comments about Neill Patrick Harris when he and his family took pics with everyone in costumes matching one theme? No? Well, because there were none! What is this difference now?

Difference is that his kids never looked like an afterthought while daddy had spotlight.
