Sometimes you have to delibrately do something wrong in order to make it look right. E.g. for the majority of fonts, the lettes look like they have the same size, but pull out a ruler and you will see that it is not the case. If all the letters were drawn, so they did infact have the same height, the text would look unharmonious, and some letters would look bigger than others due to optical illusions. Likewise the top and bottoms of the Greek temples are not straight lines, but instead curves slightly -not enough for you to consciencely noticing it- because it actually makes them look straighter. My guess is that the same would be the case for the G-logo shown above, if you removed the black lines, because the designer was aware of these principles. Try to redraw it with the parting line actually being a continious line, and I bet you that you will get a wierd feeling that the something is wrong.
