It’s better to be a master of your silence than a slave to your words— a lesson a 32-year-old husband in California learned the hard way.

Logan Goodspeed’s wife, Maisie Todd, secretly signed him up for a marathon after he bragged that he could finish the race without any training.

Maisie gave Logan just 24 hours’ notice before he ran the Rock ‘n’ Roll Marathon in San Diego. He hadn’t played sports since high school.

“Being woken up at 6 am on a Saturday [with the news] didn’t feel good,” admitted Logan.

However, he quickly embraced the challenge.

“I can’t wait for this. I can’t wait to prove everybody wrong. I’m gonna get the medal tattooed on my chest,” he said in the viral video.

Logan asked ChatGPT to help him prepare and ignored the artificial intelligence bot’s warning that running a marathon with zero training is “very risky.”

“It was also exciting because I talk a big game, and it was time to put my money where my mouth was,” he said.

“Running is definitely not a passion. I did sports in high school, but ever since I graduated, I haven’t been very active.”

To prepare for the race, Maisie and Logan bought a pair of second-hand running shoes and stocked up on healthy snacks to fuel him for the challenge ahead.

They documented the entire process on social media, with hundreds of netizens cheering him on.

During the race, Logan was surprised to see many people applauding his efforts in real life, too.

“I started running and jogging and did that for about 10 miles and felt surprisingly good about it the whole time.

“I ran into a bunch of people that had seen me on TikTok the day before, and they cheered me on.”

He eventually completed the marathon in 5 hours and 58 minutes, alternating between walking and running.

“I knew I was going to finish, so it just became a mind game of how I was going to get there,” he shared.

“I felt a little bad about it because everyone else had trained for months, and I was like, ‘Please don’t be mad at me.’

“The goal was to get within seven, and then I realized, I did the math about halfway through and realized I could break six if I wanted to.”

He was so exhausted by the time he crossed the finish line after 26.2 miles (approx. 42 kilometers) that he “didn’t have too much emotion,” he said.

Logan had 24 hours to prepare for the challenge, and said “it was time to put my money where my mouth was”

He added: “It was always a fun hypothetical question to ask people, and now it’s been answered.

“You can finish a marathon with 24 hours’ notice.”

The following day, Logan was still feeling the impact of the challenge in every part of his body.

“The day after was not good, everything hurt.

“Stairs were a problem. I still just kept drinking plenty of fluids and stretching as much as I could.”

Although proud of his achievement, Logan has no interest in running another marathon.

“I think my running career started and ended on Sunday.”

About 26,000 people in the United States develop this condition every year.

According to a study published by the NIH, the primary factors behind exercise-induced rhabdomyolysis include poor body fitness combined with prolonged-duration, high-intensity, and weight-bearing exercise.

But he didn't run a marathon. Sure, not everyone could even walk 26+ miles and he did finish under 6 hours. But I don't find that just finishing a marathon without notice is that difficult without any additional criteria. I'm very out of shape and would absolutely walk 26+ miles tomorrow. It might take me 12 hours but I could do it and it would not be an impressive feat.
