Whenever you hear the words "sexual assault," many people instinctively assume that the victim is female. But as you can see from this powerful photography series, it isn't always so black and white.
The pictures are part of 'Project Unbreakable,' a website set up in 2011 by Grace Brown, a New York photography student. The purpose of the site is to raise awareness about sexual assault by giving a voice to those who have been victims of it. The pictures feature survivors holding up posters with quotes from their attackers, and many of those who volunteered to be a part of the project were men who had been subjected to sexual assault, child abuse, and domestic violence.
The website was closed in 2015, but as Grace wrote recently, "In light of our current political climate - the fact that a man accused of multiple instances of sexual assault is about to be the president of the USA - I have decided to repost images from Unbreakable on its Instagram account. We won’t stay silent - not for the oppressed, not for the marginalized, not for anyone."

Though rare women can be rapists. I have heard that men can't be raped by women because they need to be hard. It would be like saying a woman isn't raped if she is wet. Both are a physiological response. Everyone has the right to say "NO" no matter what their physiological response.

I don't think I can read many more of these, I want to cry for all these poor people who were abused like this. Next chance I get I am raising awareness for this cause. I feel like people should know that they can go to a lot of people for this and they will be protected. This is disgusting.

It's possible that he feels that he was forced into being gay; What is probably really happening is that he hasn't processed his trauma and is actually continuously reenacting it. In our culture we regard gay as a sexual orientation that is not chosen, and for us it is like that. For him it is not, and it is his reality. Opening up about trauma is the first step to healing. Your insensitive comments here might halt that process. It's his trauma, his life, his situation. Let him have ownership to it. He might be born gay, he might not be born gay; that doesn't change the fact that he lives in a culture were being gay is a punishable offence that might cost him his life, and get him raped even more. So just let him have ownership of his trauma and figure things out for himself. Show some goddamn love, or shut your pie-holes.

Doesn't matter if you're female, male or transgender: Sexual assault will always remain sexual assault. It's truly horrible how many people think that boys and men just have to "man up" in situations like these. Being masculine ALSO includes the desire and right of being in safe zones. The horrible part is that so many have experienced this in an early stage in their childhoods and their views of life might have been completely changed forever. For those who have come out and spoke openly about their assault: you have my respect and that of hundreds of other persons. To those who still struggle, not having found the courage to speak out: Hang in there, and keep telling yourself that you are stronger than you think, because you are. And never be afraid to seek help in cases like these. Remember that a beautiful life still awaits for you, if you haven't found it yet.

My thoughts, exactly. I decided to vote the whole list, for being informative, and making the boys to be heard, but I didn't want to vote on any post individually because the pain of each of them is equally horrible. However, I DID vote the one who says his experience dows not define him, because I found it encouraging. There are people who actually commit suicide for not being able to cope with the aftermath and mental abuse, but this guy, who's been through it himself, is basically telling you to stay strong. I hope his attitude helps other victims as well.

Hey man can you hand me a slice of pizza I was 8...I thought the guy was my fiend he was 15 I was over becouse he had a ps1 and mine broke...it was 85 degrees outside I almost went fishing but I really wanted to play wwf smackdown...I remember everything from that day....I told my mom and dad my best friend died from leukemia when I came home....to this day I have not told them.... I just don't think it's something that they can handle and I'm over it I got help for it and the dr told me I was alright...the only person I told other Than that Dr is my wife...it's not ok it's never ok it does happen even if you are a man boy what ever

I was taped when I was 14 by my stepdad, I didn't know he was my stepdad until I turned 18. What a shock to me. My Mother blames me for what happened, she said that I did it and it takes two. I no longer have a relationship with my Mother, nor we were never close when I was growing up. I have forgiven my stepdad and we talk every few weeks. I didn't ask for what happened to me, my childhood was robbed from me everything changed for me, I never felt safe or full of dreams and goals. People need to know what happens to a person after someone you know takes advantage of you at a volerable age except the one who has been violated at a young age. I still have things that bother me or brings back the bad memory's I went through. There should be places for people who need help. The hardest part for me is reliving what happened to me. GOD BLESS THOSE WHO HAVE BEEN VIOLATED.

My mother had a boy friend when we were young and he would put his finger up our rectems all the time, of course he would do this at night or when our Mother wasn't around. He always threatened us, but we finally told Mom and we all left. I hope there was a special place in Hell for him when he died.

I saw several sad social experiment videos that were supposed to test people's reactions when they saw a male sexually harassing a female and a female sexually harassing a male. The two actors went out in public and started the project with a male actor pushing a female actor away as she kept saying things like: "Come on baby, have sex with me. You know you want it." Everyone in the surrounding area either ignored it or laughed and shouted random things at the male as he was harassed. (They were unaware that it was a social experiment and thought it was real.) They shouted things like: "Why would you not want to have sex with a beautiful girl like her? You're crazy! Get it on boy!" Once the roles were reversed and the male actor started to harass the female actor into having sex, a bunch of random people ran to the female's aid and immediately saved her. The point is, no one was in the least bit concerned when a male was harassed, yet reacted when it was a female getting attacked.

My nanny had a game for me when I was 7. If I wanted something from a store it would e worth a certain amount of points. When I got home she made sure everyone was out of the house. She would lay me down on my stomach with a ice pop and use a paddle and hit my butt fast and light so it stung. After she would show me how red my butt was and how warm it was standing me in front of a mirror. I had no clue this was wrong in anyway. Her 15 yr old son tried to molest me countless times when I did t corporate he lost interest.....no one in my family ever knew. I told no one untIL now. I don't think my family could take it. I can though, I can always take it.

She said she wanted to be my first, I told her I wasn't ready, she hit me, and told me she was not a virgin, and that if I did not give her my virginity she would tell her parents I raped her. She made that threat every time I tried to say no or end things, and even started to demand I initiate sex I was 15 she was 16 went on for over a year before she told me how worthless and unlovable I was and then dumped me..

THIS is why we need feminism. Equal treatment means that men's claims of rape should be taken just as seriously as women's (Hell, everyone's claims of rape need to be taken MORE seriously). Men should be able to show their pain without being called 'sissies' for it. Men absolutely can get raped, and it's heartbreaking when it happens to anyone. Why is it such a hard concept for people to understand that we're all HUMAN BEINGS. We all hurt, we can all be hurt. Why would genetics change any of that? The bravery is so inspiring. The sheer honesty. My heart aches for them still. You are unbreakable but the trust in human beings is forever tainted. I'm speaking from experience.

I saw several sad social experiment videos that were supposed to test people's reactions when they saw a male sexually harassing a female and a female sexually harassing a male. The two actors went out in public and started the project with a male actor pushing a female actor away as she kept saying things like: "Come on baby, have sex with me. You know you want it." Everyone in the surrounding area either ignored it or laughed and shouted random things at the male as he was harassed. (They were unaware that it was a social experiment and thought it was real.) They shouted things like: "Why would you not want to have sex with a beautiful girl like her? You're crazy! Get it on boy!" Once the roles were reversed and the male actor started to harass the female actor into having sex, a bunch of random people ran to the female's aid and immediately saved her. The point is, no one was in the least bit concerned when a male was harassed, yet reacted when it was a female getting attacked.

Im so heartbroken a lot of people just dont get what happens to boys/girls mens/womens minds when they are being abused/raped because the attacker is so far into their own minds to see what they are doing i do want to say thank you all for sharing your story and im so proud of you for what you are doing to help other victims of abuse/rape to have a voice God bless you all

My nanny had a game for me when I was 7. If I wanted something from a store it would e worth a certain amount of points. When I got home she made sure everyone was out of the house. She would lay me down on my stomach with a ice pop and use a paddle and hit my butt fast and light so it stung. After she would show me how red my butt was and how warm it was standing me in front of a mirror. I had no clue this was wrong in anyway. Her 15 yr old son tried to molest me countless times when I did t corporate he lost interest.....no one in my family ever knew. I told no one untIL now. I don't think my family could take it. I can though, I can always take it.

These men are so courageous and brave for speaking the truth and illustrating so brilliantly that sexual abuse is not just exclusive to women but both genders.Their stories are so heartbreaking and society needs to work together to prevent sexual abuse and to help those who are currently experiencing or have experienced sexual.It is the responsibility of all of us to do so.

She said she wanted to be my first, I told her I wasn't ready, she hit me, and told me she was not a virgin, and that if I did not give her my virginity she would tell her parents I raped her. She made that threat every time I tried to say no or end things, and even started to demand I initiate sex I was 15 she was 16 went on for over a year before she told me how worthless and unlovable I was and then dumped me..

THIS is why we need feminism. Equal treatment means that men's claims of rape should be taken just as seriously as women's (Hell, everyone's claims of rape need to be taken MORE seriously). Men should be able to show their pain without being called 'sissies' for it. Men absolutely can get raped, and it's heartbreaking when it happens to anyone. Why is it such a hard concept for people to understand that we're all HUMAN BEINGS. We all hurt, we can all be hurt. Why would genetics change any of that? We all deserve to be treated with compassion and respect.

Him( with a slithering shushh sound and holding my eight year old hand gently but firmly): "Lets go to that room first!" *** Throwing me to the bed, kissing me all over and asking me .. ** Him: " Are you enjoying it?" Me: (I was enjoying it but did not see the next part coming). Now him seductively molesting me and me looking at the dark door and trying to stop that 8 year old, even today and I say to myself, " Don't go... You could have called mummy, you could have called daddy, you could have yelled ... !"

What doesn't make a difference is whether the abuser is male or female. The abuser is the abuser. Fullstop. Also, you can totally see how they were mentally abused. Rape is rape. No matter the sexes or genders of the victims and attackers.

Apparently you didn't read very far. There were some female abusers, one was the victim's mother, another one stated they were trans, and was raped by their girlfriend.
