Autism is talked about quite often, but very rarely is it portrayed in media, and even more rarely do we see it explained properly. That's where this amazing comics creator known as AspiGurl comes in. She creates funny, quirky, and sweet comics about her life and the struggles she runs into as an autistic girl. We get to read the comics and better understand from the view of a person with the developmental disorder.

The comics are colorful and have unexpected endings. The illustrations will probably make you laugh and relate many times. It's interesting to see the perspective of someone who sees social events, situations, and everyday life from a different perspective.

More info: Instagram | Facebook | twitter.com | Etsy

Aspigurl told us more about when and why she started creating these comics: "I had the idea for the comic back in 2018. It was almost April and I was kind of dreading the usual ableist posts that we always see around that time for Autism Awareness Month. My husband wtframecomics, who illustrates the comic, and I decided to post a comic each day of that April and we just kept making them!"

She also told us what motivated her to keep creating these comics: "One of the biggest motivations for making the comic is to give other autistic people content to relate to and maybe even illustrations that might help explain and express their lived experiences (same for non-autistics: it can help them have another point of view on autism.)"

On her website, Aspigurl describes herself as "a comic putting forward the voice of autistic people through anecdotes or reflections from everyday life. As there are as many autisms as there are autistic people, it seemed important to us to put forward this diversity by also receiving comic suggestions from autistic readers."

What do you think of these comics? Have they taught you anything new about autism and how people living with this disorder see the world? Perhaps you have autism yourself and can share your side and view? Tell us in the comments down below and don't forget to follow the artist on her social media!

Nah, I don't think it's quite the same. I have autism as well and in situations like this I just about want to stab myself in the ear canal. I've had really bad panic attacks, lashed out and hit someone, and in one extreme situation bit down on my arm until it bled because there was a noise that bothered me. (Also, it's generally considered a pretty big no-no to say things like this. I don't think you meant it this way but it's pretty ableist and has been used to silence and mock people with disabilities by basically saying they're either making it up or just weak for not being able to "handle it".)

Haha I can relate x) My colleague tells me he does "cookie asmr" for me when he is eating a cookie on voice channel. Happily there are not chewing sounds, just few crispy sounds, which is ok with me. Every time he says "cookie asmr" I explain about slurping / chewing sounds make me want to kill people (even if he knows, just a preventive reminder). And we laugh together. Understanding people <3

Yeah well in this case there is no need to lose it. If you don't like it don't go to the movies.

I'm not autistic, but I do have misophonia. I will leave a movie theater if someone does this.

Can we include those who spend the entire time at the cinema playing on their phone or tablet on full brightness and also have it beep at every touch of the screen

Most of my clothes are the same... When you find an outifit that you like, why would you only buy one and keep wearing ones you do not like on other days ?

I have to do this, too. It's like I have a file cabinet in my head. Figure out what I'm being asked, find the right drawer, then the file, then the answer. Then I can speak. :)

I've found that a good way to cope with this, while still being able to pet your fuzzy friends, is to simply lint roll your face. (this isn't a joke, I'm autistic (high functioning though) and I do this)

It's funny because I rather have my hair at my neck and out of my face or I'll have bangs but I'll have twist bangs but they must be above my eyebrows because of my sensory disorder.

This is true. People go on and on about anti-maskers, but in reality, some people just struggle with these more than most n euro typical realize. This is coming from an autistic.
