“Can You Believe That?“: Kaley Cuoco Still Angry Over Confrontation When Flying With New Baby

Kaley Cuoco shared a frustrating experience of flying with her baby over the holidays, expressing anger after a fellow passenger requested her to turn off the sound machine that helped her baby daughter sleep.

The Big Bang Theory star gave birth to her first child, Matilda, back in March, whom she had with her partner, 41-year-old Ozark actor Tom Pelphrey.

The 38-year-old new mom has been sharing several special moments about her new parent life on her Instagram throughout the past year.

However, not all experiences with Matilda have been positive, as she recently opened up about a time she was left “so angry” while flying with her baby girl over the holidays, as per Buzzfeed.

On Monday (January 8), Kaley was a guest on the Jimmy Kimmel Live! Show as she was promoting her new Amazon Prime Video film Role Play.

During her conversation with host Jimmy, the actress, who ironically played a cabin crew member for two seasons on the dark comedy-drama The Flight Attendant, shared her irritating plane story that occurred around Thanksgiving.

Kaley recalled: “I was so terrified,” she said of flying with her baby for the first time. “So I thought, ‘What do we do?’ We have to bring her sound machine on the plane. It’s the only thing she can go to sleep to.”

The Golden Globe-nominated actress continued: “We’re having one of those flights that you hear that other people have, and you’re like, ‘Oh, that sucks for them.’ It actually happened to us.”

Kaley noted that she and Tom had successfully gotten Matilda, who is only nine months old, to stop crying and fall asleep by putting a sound machine next to her ear.

“So she’s crying [on the plane],” the actress said. “She finally falls asleep, and she’s on Tom, and the sound machine is on, and we were finally like [ugh].”

Nevertheless, the TV star revealed that she was then approached by a flight attendant with a request from another passenger to turn off the sound machine.

“The steward comes over and he’s like, ‘Hey, one of our passengers would love it if you would turn the sound machine off’ … and I’m sitting there and I’m like, ‘Oh my god. Oh my god,’” Kaley said.

She continued: “And I can feel Tom be like, ‘Hey, ask the passenger if she wants to hold our screaming child when we turn it off.’ I mean, the ice went into his veins.”

The actress recalled: “I couldn’t believe, by the way, she asked us to turn it off. Can you believe that?”

The new anxious mom admitted that the passenger’s surprising request wasn’t well received by her partner either.

Kaley went on to explain that she and Tom “were so angry” by the request, adding that once the plane landed, Matilda was awake and all cheery.

The actress further explained that the passenger who made the request turned to them and said, “Oh, so your daughter does know how to smile.”

Kaley quipped: “It was in that moment where I understood why women end up on Dateline. I could have strangled her,” she said, before later adding, “I could have thrown that woman off the plane.”

Dateline is an NBC TV show airing weekly, which often features true crime investigations.

You can watch the Jimmy Kimmel Live! Show segment with Kaley below:

Kaley concluded her interview on a positive note, as she said at the top of her interview that motherhood is “incredible.”

The actress confirmed her relationship with Tom in May 2022. Five months later, she announced on Instagram that they were expecting their first child together.

As of now, the couple is not married.

Kaley’s story sparked a debate on how to handle similar situations while flying with infants

Get the kid some headphones, fly privately or drive, but don't expect other people to be happy about your freakin' sound machine! Bleegh. Parents are so entitled.

Its a perfectly reasonable request to ask someone to turn off a white noise generator. It's also perfectly reasonable to explain that there's a choice between the white noise generator or a crying baby, and let the people in the area choose. What makes life so much easier is when parents pack a supply of ear plugs. These can be distributed to fellow passengers.

The celebrity (idk who she is and don’t care enough to Google) called it a “sound machine”, interestingly, and NOT a “white noise” machine, which makes me wonder if it wasn’t white noise but was something else - e.g., ocean sounds, soft music, etc. Either way - how do you have the gall to bring a sound machine onto public transport? As far as I’m concerned, that’s exactly the same thing as watching videos/music on your phone with the sound turned up/no headphones. You’re blaring sound at other people on public transport. It’s unacceptable regardless of the type of sound or the device making said sound(s). I think people would have been more understanding of a baby crying (as that’s what babies do, and one cannot control it) than the noise from a “sound machine”. Also, we should talk about the fact that this woman “joked” REPEATEDLY about attacking/harming and unaliving a fellow passenger. That’s NOT something that is ha-ha oh so funny. That is NOT something to be “joked” about on national television.

Wouldn't the sound of the plane engine drown out the sound machine? Wouldn't the engine be enough of a sound machine? Planes are not quiet, serene, utopias. I'm not sure why people think a plane should be. I'd rather hear a baby crying than whiny, crabby adults making the atmosphere tense.

I recently went on holiday and had a teeny tiny baby sat next to me, one behind me and a small child on the other side. Flight started off bad as the dad accidently dropped a bottle of water on my head putting the luggage up, the mum was terrified of flying and they just looked panicked. I had my headphones on but wasn't fussed and after reading a load of c**p on here on how parents are just reassured them. 'Hey if you need to get past me just tap me on the shoulder, if i'm asleep just shake me, it's not a problem. And if my snoring wakes up little un wake me up ' :-) they looked a bit relieved and told me it was her first flight and they were hoping she would sleep through it all. I said hey if she wakes up crying it's no problem, it's what babies do. Funnily enough she did sleep through most of the flight, the lil un behind me though burst into tears and screams. I just turned round and pulled faces to amuse myself and show the parents I at least wasn't fussed by it :-)

Contrary to what many here believe, I can attest from direct experience that it is not impossible to take a baby or little kid on a plane while not making life miserable for anyone around. Bring kid-sized earphones with some noise canceling capability. Bring a few small toys to keep her entertained. Try to have her fall asleep and try to interact with her when she is awake. Is it going to make your flight tiring? For sure, but it's been your choice to take the kid on a commercial flight, so be a responsible adult and deal with it accordingly.

I really hate white noise but since it is used to put the baby to sleep it can't be very loud and is easy to block using noise cancelling headphones. Misbehaving kids who kick seats are a nuisance, but there is not much you can do to stop a baby from crying. Parents are people too and don't need to live at the outer frings of society to keep all inconvenience away. If you fly without bringing earplugs or headphones, that's on you.

Between pressure changes and the unfamiliar environment, plane flights can be frightening and painful for babies. If the noise of other people bothers you, bring earbuds on your flight. But don't make unreasonable requests, because sometimes babies just cry and you have to wait it out while comforting them.

I don't understand people's continuing lack of awareness that they are not alone in the world. I have neighbors that blast music every night. It's like they have no awareness that doing that is crazy rude. And it's because they live in this selfish world where everything revolves around them. The machine was clearly loud enough and on long enough for a passenger aisles away to complain. And what if that machine was disturbing another baby? Does your baby take precedence over mine? Her outrage over the fact that other people didn't immediately bend to her wishes- because other people weren't even a consideration- is the bigger problem I have. You aren't alone in the world. It isn't just about you and your problems. If a noise machine will help get your baby to be quiet within a few minutes... great. I'd rather deal with that for 10 minutes than crying the whole flight. But if it wasn't working then now we have that and a crying baby.

White noise machine or screaming baby? I don't know about anyone else's experience, but it's NEVER a good one on a plane; there's always someone making some noise or leaning the chair back or throwing their hair over the back of their seat or feet between the seats...grown-a*s adults just behaving like no one else could be affectected by their behavior. Leave it to the entitled ADULTS to be upset that a 9 month old child can't manage the rigors of traveling without creature comforts. And to those that have suggested headphones for a 9 month old.... clearly you have never tried to put headphones on a happy, awake child, nevermind an "almost sleeping" child.

They can emit white noise, brown noise, or any other type of noise that's supposed to calm and relax you enough to sleep while drowning out other noises that can be more annoying or jarring.

Sorry, but my sympathy is with the other passengers. Just because you have a new baby - and let's be fair and accept that you're the only woman EVER to have given birth - does not entitle you to make life unpleasant for those around you. Why not get the holy child some headphones? Why not drive? Do you think you're entitled to special treatment because you're a "celebrity" - I mean actually I've never heard of you, but then I don't watch much TV, most of it's reality drivel...anyway, back to this screaming child. Why have you allowed yourself to be dictated to by a child? Thousands of babies go to sleep without these ridiculous aids. It's because you've conditioned her to sleep only when that device is on. Stop using it and she'll soon learn to sleep without it. But most of all STOP BEING ENTITLED! Thank you.

Maybe have some sympathy if someone is dealing with a child with a disability and know the little bit of inconvenience it might cause you is nothing compared to what the child and their parents go through daily. Well, this is just another reason why you should have child-free flights or separate cabin spaces for children.

Bitches gotta b***h, I guess. Nothing wrong with a sound machine on a long flight. Hell, I'd welcome it so I could nap too! Much better than a crying baby, or a whiny Karen/Ken, someone hacking/blowing their nose, etc.

I'd rather not hear some entitled jerk bring their infant on a plane...

I'm pretty sure that if they were putting the sound machine right next to the baby's ear, it was NOT turned up loud enough for other people to hear it over the other twenty screaming children in the airplane cabin.

I have no idea what a sound machine is and what sounds it makes or how loud that is? Anyone know?

Thank you.

There are Apple white noise apps you can get and then use a headset playing them on your baby. Problem solved.

It's not rude because she's FAMOUS. Couple of pricks who have no idea how the real world works. Maybe let your kid learn how to fall asleep WITHOUT NOISE MACHINES?

I have no idea who this person is, why I should care, or why BP keeps publishing these celebrity articles no one cares about.

I have no idea why you waste your time reading and commenting on them. Nobody is forcing you to read, nobody is expecting you to care, you're doing this to yourself, how stupid is that?

What a rich entitled narcissist she can't bother the teacher baby how to go to sleep so she gets a sound machine and thinks everyone on an airplane should listen to it how does she think the rest of us raised our kids all these years without having sound machines ridiculous I would have demanded she turn it off

She has MILLIONS of dollars, why wouldn't she take a private plane if she was so worried?

I don't know or care who this person is. Maybe she thinks she's a " celebrity " and can do whatever she wants and to hell with other people ? Also, I don't know what a " sound machine : is. It would have been helpful to have a description of what it does. If, as mentioned below, it's a white noise machine, that would drive me crazy !

I don't know why you have a problem and everyone else has to deal with it because you're special or something. OK, you have a special needs kid. That's your problem and you shouldn't make it my problem.

Wow. I cannot believe I just read this. Maybe have some sympathy if someone is dealing with a child with a disability and know the little bit of inconvenience it might cause you is nothing compared to what the child and their parents go through daily. Our children with disabilities and their families just not supposed to go in public?
