After Fans Express Concern Over Picture Of Jackie Chan Looking “Old,” Actor Shares Health Update

Some actors find themselves linked to a particular character for their entire lives, becoming synonymous with that iconic role for the rest of their careers.

This is why when a photo of a gray-haired Jackie Chan circulated online ahead of his 70th birthday, fans grew concerned, noting he didn’t resemble the fearless martial artist they saw in the “Karate Kid” films.

Highlights
  • Jackie Chan reassured fans about his health, stating his frail appearance is for a film role.
  • The actor reflected on turning 70 and his six-decade-long career in a heartfelt social media post.
  • Will Smith shared a birthday tribute to Jackie, reminiscing about the time spent during the 2010 "Karate Kid" remake.

Jackie, who turned 70 on Sunday (April 7), shared a message in response to the concerns about his health, reflecting on his milestone birthday and the passage of time.

“To all my dearest friends and fans from all over the world,” the action superstar began his Facebook message.

“Even before today, many friends have been reminding me, ‘Jackie, it’s going to be your 70th birthday!’ Every time I hear this number, my heart stops for a second—I’m 70 years old already?”

“After recovering from the shock, the second thing that would come to my mind is a saying that my big brother, Sammo Hung, once said: ‘Being able to grow old is a fortunate thing.’ Especially for us stunt people, we don’t know how lucky we are to be able to grow old.”

He continued by debunking any rumors pointing to health issues, stating that his frail appearance was part of a role for an upcoming project.

Jackie wrote: “I want to take this opportunity to let everyone know, don’t worry! It’s just a character appearance for my latest movie. The character requires me to have white hair, white beard, and look old.”

The actor, director, writer, and producer conveyed his appreciation for his six decades in the film industry and the opportunity to keep expanding his acting portfolio.

“Over the years, I’ve always been willing to try new things for a movie, no matter if it’s a challenging stunt or a breakthrough appearance for a character.

“I’ve been in the entertainment business for 62 years, and I cherish every moment because I’m lucky I’m still filming today.”

He finished the post by thanking his fans and sharing a collection of “memorable” pictures from his lengthy career.

Among the many fans who greeted Jackie was Will Smith, who expressed his gratitude towards the legendary star for “helping to raise” his son, Jaden Smith.

Jackie and Jaden starred in the 2010 remake of “Karate Kid,” produced by Will when his son was only 12 years old.

Before his birthday, a picture of gray-haired Jackie circulated on social media, making fans worry about his health

“Happy 70th (wow) Birthday to My Guy @jackiechan!!” the “Fresh Prince of Bel-Air” star began in his heartfelt post.

He added: “In addition to making some of my FAVORITE movies of all time, creating some of the CRAZIEST moments that have ever been captured on film – I thank you most for helpin’ to raise Jaden.”

“Our time with you in Beijing during the Karate Kid left an eternal impact on our entire family. We wish you the deepest love and revelation on your next trip around the sun.”

The actor and rapper accompanied his post with a series of photos showing a young Jaden working with Jackie on set.

The famous martial artist clarified that his appearance was part of a role and people had nothing to worry about

Last year, it was announced that the famous stuntman would return as Mr. Han alongside Ralph Macchio as Daniel LaRusso for a new “Karate Kid” film.

According to Sony Pictures’ website, the company was looking for an actor to portray “Li Fong.”

“We are looking for the next Karate Kid,” the site reads. “He’s smart, scrappy, and a skilled martial artist.”

As the site states, the actor “must be available March-June 2024.”

“Let him grow old gracefully,” a social media user commented
