Now, this list of our favorite things might not be final, but one thing’s for sure—our feline overlords are meowing non-stop that it’s about time that they were in the spotlight again.
So today we’re featuring tons of cool, interesting, and meowgnificent facts about cats, as presented by the UnHide TikTok channel. In a riveting five-part video series, a member of the UnHide collective went in-depth into the world of cats that might surprise even you Pandas who already probably have a Major in Graceful Floof Studies (and a Minor in Internet Memes).
And be sure to read on for Bored Panda’s insightful interview about cats and how to keep them healthy with the PDSA, the UK’s leading vet charity!
In a viral 5-part TikTok video series, the UnHide channel shared a whole bunch of cool and interesting facts about cats!
Here’s the very first video. You can watch it in full right here

UnHide is on a mission to protect all the animals that lose their lives for the sake of fashion every year in America. “We are on a mission to ban the sale of real fur in the United States,” they explain.
As part of that mission, they upload incredibly informative videos over on TikTok in order to get more people to care about the animal kingdom. After all, the more we learn about something, the more likely we are to empathize with the cause. Best case scenario? We’re inspired to do something about it and change the world for the better. Worst case scenario? We educate ourselves and learn something new by looking at videos of cute animals.
In the second video, UnHide went into detail about purring, grooming, and other cat behaviors

Nina Downing, a vet nurse working with the PDSA, told Bored Panda about how we can encourage our cats to exercise more. After all, this makes them healthier, happier, and they can make our lives wonderful for many more years to come.
According to vet nurse Nina, the very best way to encourage our cats to exercise and move more is by appealing to the more playful aspects of their character.
“The best way to get cats exercising is through play, and this is a great tactic for owners to spend time with their pets and express their love for them,” she said that playtime isn’t just about exercise but also about us bonding with our pets by simply spending more time engaging them.
However, some cats, especially overweight chonks, can be extremely lazy and won’t budge much on their own accord. That’s where a bit (or rather a lot) of patient help from the owner can help them get their health back in order.
“Cats often need encouragement to exercise, especially if they are overweight, as they can lose interest in play,” PDSA vet nurse Nina pointed out that one indication that your cat might be having issues with its health is to look at its relationship with playtime.
“As cats gain weight, their behavior changes gradually over time, which can be hard for owners to recognize—they don’t want to get up and play, they like sleeping a lot, they’ve stopped jumping up on furniture, they’re slowing down due to their age,’” the pet health expert shared what some cat owners say about their floofy felines.
However, some of these comments that Nina has heard in pet weight clinics over the years aren’t just comments—they’re a justification for the lack of physical activity of their pets. “When in fact it is the excess weight which is making them unwilling to move as it’s too much effort,” the vet nurse said.
Here’s what some people have been saying about the educational cat videos by UnHide
So there you go, dear Pandas, we hope that you’ve learned a lot of interesting new facts about cats, their behavior, and how playtime can be a good way to get our cattos into shape. Share your own cat facts below with everyone if you’ve got any additional ones!
If all the cats that sleep in a box were feeling anxious about their surrounding, that would be a lot of anxious cats. If they feel safe in a box and like the closiness of it, that doesn't mean they feel unsafe in their surrounding altogether. That's a lot of facts that are already widely known, nothing new here...
Very good point. Cats seek out these semi enclosed spaces to sleep just as they would in the wild. I think part of it is about self protection while sleeping, but I think this tik tok guy misunderstood that to mean they feel unsafe?
Load More Replies...Been around animals (not counting humans) since birth. Some of this is crap, most is well-known. Cats like enclosed spaces for warmth/safety b/c in the wild, they are *prey*, and/or want to protect their kittens. Just instinct. Not insecurity/fear. Also, cats aren't necessarily teaching yout o hunt. They are providing, or they want to play with you, and have a great "toy". Or, they've learned they get a treat for ridding teh farm of rodents, and show off the kill to get the treat. Cats meow to each other, but it's not the same as with humans, to whom they speak "baby-talk". Learn about their silent language, and they meow less, b/c you react to their silent cues. And so forth....
Not being critical, I just enjoyed seeing a guy who loves cats.
Load More Replies...I knew this already but still enjoyed it :) my cat once brought me the top half (front legs and head) of a mouse. But because I didn't eat it (Lol obviously), several days later she left me the back half of a mouse, as if to say "perhaps you prefer this half?". And I slow blink with her til she chirps, hops up and comes over to purr and cuddle ^-^
Also, with the meowing only for humans thing, this is true but I love the reason why: there are tones in their miaow that mimick a human baby's cry, tapping into that part of our brain and getting our attention :) they also raise their tails as a greeting to humans, not sure why that happens though
Load More Replies...The whole “I promise you didn’t know” approach insulted a pretty large audience. Cat people know a thing or two about their best and most intimate friends.
Load More Replies...About purring: female cats purr during labor to decrease pain. When your cat slowly blinks at you, do the same. That way you're showing them you love them back and aren't aggressive.
idk about them just meowing at us. my cat meows at the other cat.. She meows at the dog. She meows at birds and mice. She even meows in her sleep. I think she just likes to talk a whole lot.
I think he means the exact “meow” sound. Kitties make noises at other cats and animals, yes, but I think the “meow” sound is mostly only for humans.
Load More Replies...God, I hate these TikTok screenshot posts. Also, that was a lot of BS and false information, but I didn't expect anything else from a TikTok "expert". They never disappoint.
Brining ot up because I have to: why do we have to see 18 photos up a guy's nostrils, and why do we have to see patch worked video clips AND then the video anyway? What a mess All this info is pretty common place and can really just be typed up by someone and nice pics added. A lot of what's said above isn't at all true, on top of it. There seriously is a lot out there besides reposted Tik Tok videos or what some social media "influencer" has to say. Shutting up now.....
Actually, the snail position comes out a lot of times when they’re cold - just like how people curl up when you’re cold. “If your cats nest above your head, they think they are in charge of you.” Actually, cats often like to hang out and sleeping in high places because it gives them a good place to sight any dangers and an escape from the dangers below - it’s not always a form of domination. One more thing - Petting aggression is a real thing and it may be this, but cats may also just be ticklish or protective. The reason cats bite when you touch their belly is because that’s an indication you want to fight and they don’t want you touching their vulnerable parts. I’ve learned all this from a college-level veterinary testbook my sister bought me from Wash U - so, I’m not sure where this guy gets all his info.
So we moved to a home with stairs from having always lived six stories high. And one of our cats just loves sitting on the (open) stairs, looking at us, sleeping on it, and as soon as you call him, he loves to get pets and give kisses if you go up a few steps. We call him CCTV when he sits there. He loved to sit on the balcony too before we moved. It's just fascinating to see things from high up.
Load More Replies...Not 100% accurate: cats don't sweat (except through their paws) so when a cat embarrasses themselves they "blush". Washing themselves is literally trying to cool themselves down! "Be cool!"
That's really fascinating! I wondered why they do the embarrassed bath
Load More Replies...Well, 95% of this is BS. Do they find the most uneducated mansplainers they can find and set them loose?
I agree some of it is BS but a lot of it at least comes from actual facts. And also a male explaining something isn't mansplaining. Mansplaining is when a man interrupts a female to look smarter than her.
Load More Replies...My cats somehow learned to slowly close their eyes (aka cat kiss) when I send them kiss across the room.
Studies show vibrations heal tendons? Wow, didn't know cats read studies!
They do that when hiding in boxes actually, after they are done paying really cute pictures of themselves online. All in the game of kitties dominating the world. Their time will come. Soon.
Load More Replies...I think these "facts you don't know" work better if one hasn't studied animal behaviours or worked with what ever the subject critter is. But I'm still going to hop on the bandwagon and share a tale about my Peaches (RIP). Peaches was a bruiser of a kitty. 22lbs, neutered at 3 months but still a fighter. Housebroken as he refused, and didn't really fit, litter box usage. He used to hunt rabbits and crows, yes...crows. He would eat only the heads and leave the rest on the porch. I once asked our vet, whom hated that cat (it was mutual, cat bit him every time he was seen). Vet replied "because he has no brains". This cat took on several dogs, was hide in the backseat of a neighbour's vehicle and jump out her window as she pulled out of the drive, and liked to go for long walks on the shoreline (he had a romantic side). Before you ask, keeping Peaches locked in to keep him out of trouble resulted in the duct work in my home being ripped out and a window screen being destroyed.
Sometimes my cat sleeps in the loaf position, but with one arm out. Does anybody know what this means? Could it be it’s just comfortable for him?
Probably comfort, but I'm not an expert by any stretch! Mine likes to sleep with her paws crossed under her chin, on her blanket on top of her (yes it's hers now lol) chair ^-^
Load More Replies...last night my one of my cats brought me a fork and placed it beside my pillow. and the other one just eats whenever he's embarrassed/awkward...his weight tells me he's embarrassed/awkward a lot.
I’m going to have to boop my Samwise for his constant habit of sitting on the top of the chair I’m in. He’s not in charge XD
My cat is excellent at catching bugs and she once brought me a bird. I thought it was a gift and I praised her, turns out she's telling me I suck. Thanks, Lola.
"Facts" is a word that has been overused so much that it's lost any value. It's used much in the same way that "literally" is. I'll pick just one and demonstrate: "Fact: cats meow at humans and not other animals". Wrong. Feral cats don't meow at people. They hiss. And cats in general meow at other cats - their parents, as kittens. Humans just never teach them or give them a reason to stop. There's not even any reason for me to claim it as a fact - I don't need click bait. It's just demonstrably true.
Why does he have to insert his own silly face into each and every picture? Sorry, this puts me off reading any further.
He missed one. A cat rolling on it's back is an invitation to play fight, not a submissive gesture as it is with dogs. This is why a cat might grab your hand and kick it if you stroke it's tummy. Older cats eventually learn that they should only do this with other cats instead of their humans, but a kitten will assume you want to wrestle.
Completely wrong. A cat rolling on its back means it feels happy, safe, & relaxed. My cats love to sleep on their backs in random places throughout the house. The last thing they want is to playfight. If I used my hand to "wrestle" them, they would kick & bite because they want to be gently pet or left alone, not provoked. If a cat rolls on its back around you, it means it trusts you & thinks you're safe to be around. Attempting to playfight during that admission of trust would totally break the trust.
Load More Replies...Is this guy a veterinarian or a biologist? Because a lot of that appeared to be just made up. It’s tiktok though, so that’s to be expected.
I knew most of these and will call crap on a couple of them as well but an enjoyable article none the less, just to add on to the penis thing, the head is like a shovel and they will use to scoop out any other deposits from other cats, cats can also be pregnant by more than one male at the same time so this is an important thing for a cat, it's savage and I feel for the lady cats and it's no wonder cats getting it on sounds like a murder scene.
These are pretty interesting :) I want a cat but I’m allergic...*sigh* genetics
My cats been laying on my chest and purring a lot lately.Good to know.
My cats sleep on their side or with their bellies up all the time. Makes me so happy ^_^

My cat is a big tabby polydactyl, and she is always screaming at us. We love her. Cats are so cool and irritating sometimes.
Half of those are absolutely bullshit. People need to stop projecting human emotion on animals.
Most of this is basic stuff I already knew about cats. Also, my cat sleeps in a hideaway sometimes, but it’s more about warmth and darkness than feeling insecure. When she wants to cool off, she gets out and sleeps on her back, right next to me and the 40lb doggo. She has no insecurities at home.
Also, that last comment from m.r.x.a is so uneducated. Cats don’t draw out your negative energy and then release it when they sleep.
