I've stood model in front of the camera a couple of times and being a woman I feel very empowered to see my feminine side reflected in pictures (not for the PO by the way, I have a friend who is an artist). I'm not a tomboy. I'm not non-binary. I'm a cisgender woman who is proud to be a woman and I embrace my femininity. I've done pin-up, I've done boudoir, I've even done nude (in styles like the nude paintings of old, very romantic, not vulgar poses). If you see these kind of styles as sexualizing, the problem is with your brain. Because for the artist, the models and those who appreciate this it's art not porn, sensual not sexual. And I speak from experience that these kind of styles are absolutely empowering for those who model. Beauty is in the eye of the beholder. But so is sexualization. So if you see these pictures as sexualizing, it's your eye that's the problem, not the style. And what is far from empowering are comments of people who feel they should dictate what people should and shouldn't like, what people should and shouldn't wear. What photography styles should and shouldn't be considered empowering. I think you missed that part of the lecture in your ethics class too, that people have different tastes, different interests, and that you should respect that.

I think it's important to ask yourself if that's what maybe you see - these women have all different ethnic backgrounds- from African American, Hispanic and Asian - in just this batch! Including women of all ages!! I am a female photographer- who photographs women who - ask - ask to be photographed. Sexuality is powerful- to reflect that a woman can choose to celebrate that - that's empowering. If it's not empowering for you- then yes - don't do it!! But to celebrate these women getting to feel good- that's amazing!!
