Couples Are Sharing ‘How It Started’ Vs. ‘How It Ended’ In 46 Wholesome Posts
Every love story on this planet has its origins. Your eyes meeting on a subway train. A message you send and regret immediately. A hit-or-miss shot at chatting them up that depletes all your confidence reserves for a year in advance. This is as nerve-wracking as it can be, but at the end of the day, you gotta follow your heart.
Luckily, people on Twitter are giving us a glimpse of how exactly the initial spark happened and where it led them in the most heart-melting “How it started/How it ended” Twitter thread. From asking for her Snapchat and bonding over a love of dogs to bluntly admitting having a crush on her, these tweets are here to remind us that the first move can always become life-changing.
So next time you've spent too long thinking of pressing the "send" button, remember that "just do it" is not only for sports.

In order to find out more about finding love online, Bored Panda spoke to Jessie, who started the viral twitter thread “How it started/How it ended” by posting a snap of the first tweets between herself and her partner Julia, which led to their beautiful love story. Jessie’s tweet caused a stir on Twitter with 466K likes, 41.2K retweets, and 16.3K quote tweets.
Jessie told us that both she and Julia had fan accounts for Pitch Perfect and she had seen Julia's tweets before and found her now-partner super funny. “My ‘hand wave’ was as smooth as I could be because I really wanted to be her friend,” the woman said.
Six months later, the couple met in person when Jessie flew to meet Julia across the world. “And right now, we're waiting for her to receive her visa so she can come live with me in the US,” she said in excitement.
Jessie suggested that everyone try their luck at finding love online because “it’s so easy to connect with people with similar mindsets and interests and I think the internet can be an amazing place for meeting your soulmate.” And we can’t agree more!
There’s never an easy way to find your other half you’d like to spend the rest of your life with (or at least, a part of it). But with the recent surge in the use of digital technology, more and more people are meeting their partners online instead of in school, at work, or through friends and family.
A recent study by sociologists Michael Rosenfeld and Sonia Hausen of Stanford University showed that between 1995 to 2017, meeting through friends saw the largest decline, from 33% of couples at the start of the period to just 20% at the end.
Moreover, the study revealed that 39% of heterosexual couples and 60% of same-sex couples in the US that ended up dating had first met online. The results showed that online dating has fortunately lost its initial stigma and has recently become by far the most common way that Americans find their partners.
Recently, Pew Research Center reported another interesting factor in online dating. The "How Couples Meet and Stay Together 2017" survey data found that couples who meet online are, in fact, more likely to be diverse in choosing a partner who is different from them in race or ethnicity, education, political party, or income.
Three-in-ten of those who say they met their partner online report that their partner is a different race or ethnicity, compared with 19% of those who met their partner offline. Moreover, those who met their partner online are also somewhat more likely to say that they and their partner do not identify with the same political party (46% vs. 40%).
And finally, people who met their other half online are more likely than those who met offline to identify as lesbian, gay, or bisexual (13% of those who met their partner online identify as LGBT, in comparison to 4% who met them offline.)
Please tell me im not the only person to google translate this...? 😅
With a lot of these, we can't get any idea of the story in the beginning because there's a little bit of text with no context.
Is it just me or is "how it ended" a weird way of putting it? Like it makes me it's about break up/divorce
Perhaps "Where it led"
Yeah I thought it was gonna be about divorce nice to see it was the opposite!
I know, it sounds a bit ominous.
Is it just me or are they trying to push a gay agenda just a touch here?
Oh god, who cares! Just let people be happy! It has no effect on you.
There are both 'gay' couples and hetero couples in this article, how could it be "pushing and agenda"?
@Tres D, are you really saying that?? Let gay couples have the floor FOR ONCE. Straight people can afford to step back for one article online.
Because there are A LOT of lgbtq alphabet soup couples posted

The gay couples are WAY over represented
No one is pushing anything. Calm yourself, gay isn't contagious.
Guys guys guys, I’m straight and Christian. I’m happy for them, if they make each other happy, who are we to hate on it? Besides, it’s better to be gay and love each other than be homophobic and miserable

Little Wonder good
I'm going to have to respectfully disagree. No 'agenda' is being promoted. It's just an article about couples. Are articles with all straight couples pushing a hetero agenda?
Why does seeing happy couples together have to be “pushing” anything? Most of them look American, too, but the majority of people in the world aren’t American. Is that pushing an American agenda? For whatever reason these are the folks who submitted their pics for this project. There doesn’t have to be some ulterior motive in sight just because most of them are gay. Get over it.
Or... isn't it sad that gay people need to use social media to come in contact because there's still people that just can't get tired of showing how homophobic they are?
Def pushing an agenda
We thought it , you said it

Although that's have rights etc from government, doesn't mean people accept them. It's reality. And they are over represented.
Maybe we fight so hard to get seen is no one wants to look so we need to make ourselves noticed. Take a look at human history. We, queer folk, get shunned, stepped on, punished, shamed, and even killed for being ourselves. We are just now, FINALLY, getting seen, and that's not over representation. It's respect that's long overdue.
I guess that most het couples don't see the need to tell everyone that they are together. Don't take those who defend the Gay couples personally. It DOES look strange, but it's just what it is. They are still trying to normify their lives to themselves by pushing it out there and asking us to be positive about it for them.

Does that mean that you're fighting against all the other forms of media that are 'pushing' the 'hetero agenda'? :D That's awesome of you. Thanks for giving LGBTQ+ people representation is over forms of media instead of complaining that we have a moment in the spotlight in this article.

Yes and it's too late to stop us
@Roald VandeMunt it was just a joke and nobody said that straights are trying to stop gay people. all these straight people in this comment section need to calm down, Useless Panda didn't say anything about straights, it was literally just a joke to lighten the mood
Awee did you see how excited the gays got when we saw representation? Everyone was like "hUH WHAT THEY ARE GAY?? I TOO AM GAY!! YESS!!" *This* is why we need representation! Everyone is so excited to learn that there are success stories, even if we know they exist, it's so important to see in the media too.
i agree! and the article isn't called "wholesome couples oh and some of them are gay", it just doesn't mention it. that's how it should be. what a pleasant surprise, thanks BP :)
EXACTLY! i believe you shouldn't have to mention somethings gay, it should just be considered normal and expected within couples media, this is how you get it to be more normalized!
Yes!! I was honestly overjoyed when I saw all the LGBTQ+ couples here and I sent it to all my friends.
they are in every movie every sitcom every tv show you act as if they arent represented at all,i mean if youre in a non western country maybe but here in the west theres definitely not a lack theres even overrepresentation when we look at the actual numbers of lgbtq ppl
That's not true. Queer people are massively under represented, and when we are shown in media, it's almost always cis people portraying trans people, and straight people portraying gay/lesbian folk. They use stereotypes that force harmful images of queer people, e.g. trans women as perverts, gay men as hyper-feminine. Do you think it's fair for a large thriving beautiful culture and community to be ignored because they aren't the majority?
Ever notice how every dang homosexual couple in a movie either breaks up, dies, or is a side character? That’s not fair. To be fair, straight or gay people making out is gross to me, but hey ho, it’s not like we’re ever going to have an asexual hero in a movie, are we? No girl ever refuses a guy in a movie and that sucks.
latinos are 17%of the us population and get only 5%of media representation, and there the representation is also limited to cholo gangster roles narcos hot latina maid gardener hot dancer ...we dont complain...and the lgbt are overrepresented when compared to the %they are in the population...so youre wrong dont matter how much you downvote me facts remain facts dislike them as much as theres only 2 genders wich is also a scientific fact have anice day dude
what utter bullshit!!
Happiness is bullshit? love is bullshit? Why so angry at other people who are simply in love?

@Bill Newsome, why does it seem like most of the Bills on here are such jerks?? We can't help it if you think we're special. Don't hate us cuz you ain't us.
Gays still trying to be special.
Bill Newsome lol
Gorgeous, beautiful couples...I wish them all the best and many years of happiness...on a side note: here I am alone with my 2 cats..at least they love me right? right? Oh well....
This was all great but I could hardly understand the conversation in the texts 🤨
This post is sooo adorable, like it just made me happy that people are happy because we need happiness in our world. Not just happiness in general, but happiness with who we are and this post shows that and I love it so much <3
Love is the best thing in the world
They're way to young for 'how it ended'.
It’s a really weird way of wording it. I feel like it should say “Where it is now.”
I like being single, but I also love love.
I hope the girl I met on Transformice will have an end picture with me one day,,
SO. MUCH. WHOLESOME. MY. GAY. HEART. IS. EXPLODING.
Quick question: is it true that gay people are creating glitter windmills under the cloak of night? Yes? No? Because my chinchilla is turning rainbow colored and is kind of freaking me out. THE GAYS ARE MAKING CUTE FLUFFY ANIMALS MORE SPARKLY WITH SPARKLE WINDMILLS
Would have been nice for a little background for each story. I was a little lost.
Everything here is so gay and I love it
The written part of the post emphasizes about people that met their partner online, not through friends/work/etc. Then some of the pics (just a few) show ppl that knew each other in person already
This article is adorable.
Awesome.
These are so nice!
I needed to see this today. Wonderful pictures of love.
Hella gay

I liked the concept as it was posted on the main page, an older pic and a current pic. But these are just mainly screenshots of texts followed by a pic. Maybe change the pic on the main page?
i love this so much!! so wholesome :))
the best part is how its mostly lgbt relationships
Why it is the best? It shouldn't matter, because we're all equal, right? I would say that heterosexual couples are underepresented here.
LGBTQ+ representation is very low, and it's nice to see people who are like me. Cishet couples are represented in almost every other media, so chile they can stay there and give us a chance here.
Cishet couples are all we see. It's just a nice change of events to have the straight couples be the minority for once.
I wish we lived in a world where people could go out shopping and see same sex couples, gay, lesbian, and so many more types of relationships instead of having so many open homophobes telling them who they can and can't love. All these couples are beautiful and deserve to be loved anywhere and everywhere by other equally normal people.
hetero couples are so boring and represented all the time. great post! i tend to see people genderless - just humans, who love each other. btw, meeting online is all about attraction, i experienced same, doesnt matter, what you write, meet soon anyway!
Agnes Jekyll, go out and f*ck yourself...

Heterophobia is bullsh*t.

get out and create some happiness for yourself instead trying to piss on everyone else's parade, and watch out for that wind while you're out there.

I was very meh about these. Like this was our text conversation.. now have a selfie together ... k.... a good one? married with a kid? You are a couple that has traveled together for 10 years? Cool! You are 22 and taking selfies on the beach... meh
The fact there are more gay couples that straight that just leads me to believe either a) straight couples break up a lot more, or b) use the internet a lot less :P Beautiful post though. Love seeing happy endings
i love how lesbian this post was

did you just assume their sexuality?maybe they identify as male and are hetero.....
i just meant i like the lesbian representation. gay & lesbian & straight people are in this post, but i was referring to the lesbian women. i liked the rep is all, cause i don't see a lot of it on BP. that's all
Why so many homosexuals?
Why not?
does this mean that being straight is gonna be very rare to find happiness?
Nope, no one's saying that.
No one said that. It's just that LGBTQ+ couples can be happy too. :/

basically lgbt propaganda
Do you say that about religious posts? Religion is a choice, sexuality is not. :/ Chile
I'm glad BP is starting to put out more positive posts lately, but why are the vast majority of these posts about gay people? Like seriously, just wondering. It's really not statistically accurate. I guess I should have expected that though.
Statistically accurate according to whom, and why does it have to be statistically accurate anyway? It’s just people who participated in the challenge. If the person who started the challenge has mostly gay followers, then it’s statistically accurate for their followers. And anyway, if everything had to be statistically accurate all the time, straight white men wouldn’t be the stars of most movies or run so many powerful governments. Like, who even said this was supposed to be a representation of all people in the first place???

"who even said this was supposed to be a representation of all people in the first place???" - have you ever heard of inclusivity or it just works one way??

Homosexuality is clearly forbidden by God in the bible. The upvote/downvotes in these comments show that some have no problem offending God. Sad. Life is short. This beautiful world didn't just come to being from two dead planets colliding. We will all see God soon.
I love god but am also queer. Can't you be both?? But you're right, life is short, best to spend it being your authentic self.
@Eel Music. You need to stop commenting s**t like this. This is NOT okay. People come to bored panda to read about heart-warming or funny articles. They do not come to this website to have someone completely downgrade their sexuality or religion. Just shut the f**k up, man. Commenting this clearly isn't getting you anywhere.
