Newcomer Finds A Letter Left By Previous Home Owners, Decides To Do What It Says
Moving houses is quite stressful. Especially, when you find out that the past owners left something ‘special’ behind, like a rodent infestation or dirty underwear stuffed behind the wardrobe. Fortunately, in this story, told by 23-year-old Miranda from Washington, what was left behind was far less scary, and actually pretty exciting.
The woman shared a set of photos 2 days ago, where she showed the note she found after moving in. It started with “Welcome to our beloved home!” and detailed some very important details about what the previous owners left behind. Turns out, the house had a feline tenant who’d been living there for 12 years! “When we first read the note we laughed we thought it was sweet but we also thought it was funny because we are like stray cat magnets. 4 of our 5 current cats were strays” Miranda told Bored Panda. She said that by the time they read the note, the cat was already waiting by the door! “He wasn’t scared of us at all, when we are outside he keeps his distance but he [doesn’t] run, he even comes to the door to let us know when he’s hungry,” she elaborated. "A home without a cat - and a well-fed, well-petted and properly revered cat - may be a perfect home, perhaps, but how can it prove title?" (Mark Twain) Welcome to your new home!
Had the same situation when I bought my home...except it was 3 cats that the previous owners left behind. In my case the owners just didn't want them anymore, & I didn't have the heart to take them to the shelter. What made it worse was the previous owners bragging about how great they were to their pets several months later.
Wow. Reminds me of the people who one of our previous cats abandoned. He adopted us instead, because they were terrible owners. Some people should not be allowed to 'own' pets. Thank goodness the new owners of that house will continue to care for that kitty.
Load More Replies...Here in PHX AZ stray and feral cats are common. They live together in colonies. I began humane-trapping them ten years ago with help from Animal Defense League Arizona. One of their vets provided very low cost neutering. I return the kitties to my yard where our "core 4" continue to live peacefully. Feeding them and providing water costs very little and I have their companionship when I garden. A pregnant female appeared once during brutally hot weather. We brought her & kittens in and kept her and 2 kittens where they stay as forever family along with 4 previous rescues. The other three kittens were found homes through a no-kill shelter. As I sit and read I usually have a purring cat or two on my lap. Life is good and kindness costs little enough. Raz and others of his kind are excellent companions/family.
Raz is an amazing cat. My best friend is the one who moved into the house and after spending a weekend there, there is no doubt in my mind that he will let her befriend him.
I'm sure the previous owners miss him, but the kitty is most likely happier staying where he's been for so long. Kitties do not like change (I know this, cuz I'm a kitty lol)
Thank goodness the new tenants will continue to feed him. Hopefully he isn't as feral as thought and will have some years as a comfy cozy house kitty.
Why didn't the previous house owners leave the cat's name in this letter? He must have had one given by them.
There are still good people in the world. Good he came across such indivuduals. Someone else might have just scared him off. I wonder though if they will be able to befreind him in time. Hope so. Winters alone are awful..
so glad you are feeding him and looking after him if he wants you to fuss him he will let you do so. keep up the good work and hope he lives peacefully with you
Wonderful! I've done the same thing with a beautiful stray that has lived here for at least 11-12 years. My maintenance man (who has been here just as long) told me a few days ago that he has never seen anyone be able to get close to her, let alone touch or hold her. He told me he is glad she comes to me, and the property manager encouraged me to take her with me. I will. I've lived here for less than two years. She chose me as her mama, and that is a gift I will never ignore.
I appreciate the fact that they are taking care of the cat, but be warned that one feral cat can quickly develop into many feral cats if they find a stray mate. My sister took care of a couple of feral cats. 18 months later and several incidents of cross breeding and 2 developed into 25. Her generosity was stretched to the limit when the cats were literally climbing the screens on the doors and windows demanding food and her friends stopped coming around because the cats would swarm any vehicle that came into the lot..resulting in some cats getting run over. She set traps and rounded them all up, took them to the shelter..and got the two original cats fixed before taking them back home. Be wary of taking care of strays....
Please take care of Raz until his dying breath. He's beautiful and he will make your lives richer beyond belief.
the world is coming to an end. Does everything have to be shared with everyone?
Yes, because people like you and I click on the article. Any questions?
