Horse Goes On A Walk Alone Every Day For 14 Years, Receives Pets And Treats From Residents
Outdoor cats are known to wander, and dogs expected to get loose – but in Frankfurt, Germany’s Fechenheim district they have grown accustomed to a different kind of ‘outdoor pet’ – an Arabian mare named Jenny. The effervescent white horse strolls lazily through the streets each morning, on the same route, with no handler in sight. For the people not familiar with the animal she wears a card that reads: “I’m called Jenny, not a runaway, just taking a walk. Thanks.”
Jenny has been taking this walk alone for the past 14-years, because her owner, 79-year-old Werner Weischedel can no longer ride her. Every morning the old man opens his gates and she trods along the paths they used to take together.

Before Jenny was a solo traveler she was part of a “caravan.” Weischedel told FNP, “We used to have a second mare, Charlie, and a second white shepherd. There we went as a white caravan through Fechenheim. Almost 15 years.” The “we” he refers to is him and his wife Anna. Now their riding group is down to Jenny and their German shepherd Evita, who sometimes joins her for part of her daily jaunts.

Jenny walks her route 8 times a day before returning home for the afternoons for lunch – just like clockwork. Maybe that’s because, according to her owner, she has a “clock in her stomach” and “knows exactly when there is food at home.”

The locals have come to expect and enjoy seeing Jenny and despite the worries of some pedestrians police spokeswoman Isabell Neumann told German news agency dpa that she presents no danger. Weischedel works with the police to make sure both Jenny and the other citizens are safe he told”Maintower”: “The police know. When someone calls in, the police ask me: ‘Werner, do you know where Jenny is?’ Yes, I say. ‘Ok, then everything is in order.'”

Jenny has friends and guardians everywhere, even at the tram station. The driver has become familiar with the mare and welcomes her visits. Some people on social media have criticized Jenny’s freedom, calling it negligence for her safety and the safety of people on the roads and streets. But, her veterinarian Maren Hellige said the mare “seems very relaxed and satisfied.” According to the police, there have been no incidences in all her 14-years of walks

“The poodle of a walker reacts yelpingly when the Arabian mare “Jenny” meets him on the banks of the Main.”

“Jenny curiously sniffs at the child of Raphael W’llstein, who is on his way to the train, on her daily walk through the Fechenheim district of Frankfurt.”

Share on FacebookI used to live in Bel Air, Maryland. One morning, at about 3:30, I saw an unaccompanied horse taking a leisurely stroll downtown. I thought I was seeing things. When I mentioned it at work the next day, I was told "Oh, that's Earl. He does that every morning."
Sweetest story of the day. Hope she continues to be safe. Edit: I f I had plans to visit Germany I would make a detour to Frankfurt just to meet her. Can see she is well cared for by her hooves and general condition. Sure she must be much happier out and about than alone in a stall all day.
My mum let someone graze their two ponies in one of her fields, only to find that they would jump the fence and come hang out at the house. Heads through open windows to say hi, snacking on the veggie garden, blocking the driveway, and ambushing anyone carrying a bucket, were all common events. Then her SO decided that the ponies just needed some love and attention, and started petting them and grooming them. So then there were two ponies waiting at the backdoor for him every morning, and following him around the property all day.
I would love to have a horse that takes daily walks in my neighborhood! What a lovely story!!
She obviously knows her way, since her owner rode her around town for many years. It would be cruel to keep her confined to a smaller area, and I'm glad the locals in her area understand.
I definitely want to go to Frankfurt now and take pictures of Jenny (with permission of her owner of course).
In my old neighborhood there was a little dachshund named Buddy, his owners were older and didn't have the energy to take him for a walk every day, but they would leave their garage door halfway opened so he would slip out on a daily basis. My mom is in love with dachshunds and she went out to go catch him when he came in our driveway, he must've been used to this because just when she thought she got him he would zip away, but everyday we would see Buddy taking himself for a walk :)
As a kid - all the neighbours dogs were everywhere - never far from their houses. So few cars there was little danger.
Load More Replies...I would love to live in an area where this could happen without the horse being stolen.
When you have every single local looking out for it - no-one can steal it. If it wasnt for a single narrow one-way road in our town - it could happen without incident, so long as the horse was accustomed to it's route.
Load More Replies...Aww, you go ahead on, Jenny! She acts better behaved than some humans I know. This is her thing so let her do it.
This story made my heart so happy it forced tears to my eyes. I love everyone in this story. Wish I could live in this town for a spell. 😀❤️😘
When I was little, someone found an orphaned elk calf. He was bottle fed and became very friendly. His name was Nimnon. Nimnon grew up to be an amazing creature with a full set of antlers. There is a photo of me riding him! Every fall he would take off wearing his collar (in case he got shot during hunting season), and return in the spring. Sometimes he helped himself to the garden and people started to complain. It was decided that he was a PEST and needed to be relocated. Nimnon was forced into a trailer breaking his antlers and leg. He never knew what he did wrong. Needless to say, he had to be put down........Jenny is 22 years old. She's an old girl with not much time left. Embrace her kindness and personality. One day soon she will be gone and all that will be left are the memories of this beautiful grey mare spreading her kind of innocent peace and hope as only an animal can give.
When I was little, someone found an orphaned elk baby. It was bottle fed and grew up to be a magnificent creature with a full set of antlers. He wasn't a pet and there is a picture of me riding him. His name was Nimnon. Nimnon would take off in the fall wearing his collar, so that if he were shot, that person would let the townsfolk know. He would return every spring. Then people started to complain that he was eating out of the gardens and decided that he should be relocated. They forced him into a horse trailer and broke his antlers and his leg. Needless to say, he was destroyed over lettuce........Leave Jenny alone. 22 is very old for a horse. She doesn't have much time left. In the mean time, people will have had an amazing experience around an animal who apparently loves people. That doesn't happen often. Enjoy it while you can. Nikki from Aspen.
years ago when I was a child in a small country town we had an old retired farmer who had been riding since he was 2 years old. In his late years he could barely get on his rather old horse. The horse I am told was well into his 20's and knew the town backwards. The old man used to ride him to the hotel and leave him at the trough. The bakery used to give him a pie and there was plenty of grass for him. When the old man wanted to go home he would call him and his mates would put him on the horse. he would say "home" and the horse would take him home. He would virtually sleep all the way home.
Can I be a horse magnet and just WHOOOOOOMP to this horse to give it immediate loves
Jenny's a sweetheart, and her family and the townspeople are lovely to accommodate her. Life us so much nicer when we all get along.
Jenny gave me the morning smile, some people loves coffee in their mornings i love reading about animals, their stories, their intelligence and their interaction with humans.
I’m 38 years old and my childhood horse is still alive. (My mom made my dad promise we would never sell him so for 25 years my dad has been going to the barn at 6am ;) Horses are very curious animals and some can have sweet personalities like Jenny. I love that the town embraces her. My horse would be kicking everyone!

Why are you posting that here? This is an article about a horse, yours is a picture of an observatory painted to look like R2-D2. I think you're on the wrong article. The photo you claim to be yours is found here: https://deskgram.net/p/1939296141117476089_1433712427 Go ask that guy about it.
