Cleaning is a never-ending part of life. Between doing the dishes, vacuuming, and wiping down counters, there’s always something that needs attention.
Eventually, you kind of get used to it. Sure, the clean clothes might sit in a chair for three days before getting folded, but most people at least try to stay tidy.
However, certain household objects seem to have been designed without taking it into account. So, whether you’re shopping for a toilet or kitchen cabinets, consider this list a reminder that you need to think about all the possible dust and dirt prior to swiping your credit card.
The subreddits r/HardToClean and r/HorribleToClean are full of examples that make everyday chores far harder than they should be.

A few extra minutes of chores might not seem like much, but they add up. In the past three months, the average American has missed out on two fun events, avoided hosting guests twice, and had two arguments in their household due to their home’s messy state.
According to a new survey of 2,000 people in the United States, the stress of having to clean their home before they can relax is ever-present for nearly two-thirds (64%).
Of those who have missed out on doing something fun because they needed to clean their home, respondents spent that time doing laundry (56%), cleaning the bathroom (51%), doing the dishes (46%), vacuuming (40%), and mopping (38%).

Results of the aforementioned survey also showed that the average person loses an average of six hours a week between prepping to clean, cleaning, and recuperating afterward — nearly an entire workday.
With so much time spent on cleaning, it’s not surprising that seven in ten respondents admitted that being an adult is less fun than they thought it would be.

When they think back to what excited them most about adulting, 68% remember looking forward to the opportunities they’d have, like living on their own (50%), driving (47%), and having more free time (43%).
The reality is that, outside of work and sleep, more than half of respondents estimated they have only approximately four hours of personal time per day, with nearly one-third (31%) reporting even less.

These things are designed to be cleaned. Like, that's RIDICULOUSLY easy to clean...but it requires someone to do it, which the company won't pay for because "no one's looking that close."
For more than half of the survey’s respondents, that limited time is quickly eaten up by chores that leave them drained.
Two in three Gen Z and Millennial respondents reported feeling exhausted after cleaning their home, with many describing household chores as physically demanding. That fatigue may be tied to a lack of downtime, too.
The survey discovered that the average American spends just 18% of the year on “free time.”

I once fitted new vinyl in a woman's kitchen. Slipped when I first walked in on the old flooring. Then realised everything in the room had a layer of grease on it from where she used a deep fat fryer for every single meal she cooked! Did the floor and got out as quick as I could.

The most common cleaning stressors include dishes piling up in the sink (37%), dirty floors (33%), and a ring around the toilet bowl (30%).

I'm disappointed that they didn't paint the walls in a wide vertical stripe pattern (like a beach cabana), as in the episode of Trading Spaces where they ruined a room by covering the floor with sand. (Mind you, a full wall realistic mural of the ocean would be ideal. But stripes are easier!)

To be honest, we couldn't have any kind of art if we only think from the cleaning perspective. Every statue would be a rectangle or a blob without any divots, every painting without any impasto or covered with glass/resin layer. This is a freaking glass statue, a decoration. Mostly it needs just simple dusting now and then. And deeper cleaning isn't that hard with a simple soft brush, water and something like dish washing liquid.
