Most music is trash and its only purpose is to sell you an image. You know, like a haircut or style of clothing. Or even a world view. Very, very few artists/bands avoid being co-opted into a narrative and manage to be successful by their own merit. Most of the music you hear will come from the 'Hit Machine' and I dont mean Tom Petty.
