Now I know what this means I agree a friend of mines son killed himself and it was only after I realised how often I said this or thought it and how awful it is and not in the least bit funny.

oh also, using a mental illness or something similar as an insult like someone saying to their friends, "you're literally bipolar"

sometimes, i feel the (human) need to correct something that's off-center, and that has *nothing* to do with the mental disorder known as OCD. OCD is HORRIBLE to have!!

Like when people say “My OCD,” when they don’t have it, and they assume it’s simply a disorder where the person is a control freak. Or saying “I’m so depressed” when you’re sad. Or “I’m starving” when you’re just hungry. Reminds me of the Giver when Jonas talks about how the teachers would correct their language. “No, it’s not that extreme and you know it. Don’t exaggerate, use proper vocabulary”

yeah whenever i remember to not exaggerate too much on things i think of the giver

When people say that about something I did, I hit em with the "Yeah, and it can get a lot gayer if you want ;)"

I came here to say that. I’m going to visit my cousins this summer, and I can expect to hear “gay” used to mean stupid many times. It will take every ounce of my self restraint to not say “yeah I am so what”

I agree. There's being a nice human for not body-shaming, but then there's ignoring the fact that someone is an unhealthy weight/size, to the point that it's hurting themselves

For some folks, fat acceptance means diminishing or even shaming someone else's weight loss goals. Something made more offensive when a skinny person is the one saying this stuff

“You’ve got another THING coming.” The whole point of this phrase is that you may have thought wrong, and therefore “You’ve got another THINK coming .”

“Take a chill pill.” Basically saying, “you got mental health issues, dude, go take some meds to help with that.” ._. Maybe I took that too um… extremely…

When you make a “joke” about mental illness when you’ve never had one like for example: “I have ptsd from when x did that” “Omg, this triggers my ocd” (when you don’t even have it) “Lol I wanna commit suicide because of [insert very dumb reason]” “omg, I literally have [insert every mental disorder that’s ever existed] because some quiz on Buzzfeed told me” Just, don’t trivialize mental disorders if you’ve never had any experience with them. If you do have mental disorders then get help if you can as soon as possible before it turns into something even worse

Someone in my class once said “this outfit is giving me ptsd.” And I was like “EH??” Pretty sure no one’s going to get ptsd from a slight fashion horror…

Imagine if we lived in a society where there were so few problems that an outfit that’s slightly off caused ptsd

The other day I was at a friend's birthday party and 2 of my friends presents were covered in purple wrapping paper and they were on top of each other, and my friend's friend said "oMg mY oCd hAtEs tHiS hAhAhA" I asked my friend, she had been friends with that friend for YEARS and she said that the friend did not have OCD. It pisses me off when people mock mental disorders like that, I have OCD and it made me super mad, OCD and other mental disorders are not easy to live with so I find it extremely disrespectful for people to think they can just make fun of people with them because they feel like it

For many years bigots claimed homosexuality was a mental illness. Glad to see that proud tradition of ignorant horsesh!t alive and well.

The “Sorry, not sorry.” Phrase. Just, if you’re not sorry, say you’re not sorry! You don’t have to waste so many words just to tell me you don’t give a cracker about the damage you caused. Other one: “f yourself.” I know it’s supposed to mean kill yourself, but doesn’t the word ALSO have a different verb meaning?? You want me to do WHAT to myself? People use the f word in so many ways it kills me. Like, does the word even have meaning anymore? It has so many definitions, it doesn’t actually have any definition.
