I've always wanted a hedgehog for a family member/pet. But have always worried about whether they have very many health issues, and also about being able to find a vet with the ability/knowledge to be able to treat them. (I live in a small town surrounded by other small towns, where vets treat mostly large animals and cats/dogs.) And I also struggle with issues related to their life expectancy. I have owned guinea pigs when my daughter was a child, and losing them after only two to five years of having them was extremely hard. But she is soo cute!

Where do you find rescue hedgehogs? The ASPCA? Or are there rescue organizations? I've always wanted a hedgehog. Do they have many health issues?

I recommend looking local to you on Petfinder or following local small/exotic animal rescue. Some good breeders also have rescues for adoption as people surrender them. as for health/care, I recommend the Hedgehog Welfare Society https://www.hedgehogwelfare.org/

Yeah Babybel is a hamster! A syrian hamster to be specific :) He also has incredibly long hair, way longer than most hamsters. His fur is so soft, it's like holding a small cloud!

I believe the scientific name is Phyllocrania paradoxa. They are very chill and, from what I gathered, universally like to just hang somewhere and not do much :D

I hope the blue one is not grieving too much. I've heard they don't do well on their own, especially if they were 1/2 of a bonded pair. But I LOVE the "eyelashes" on the blue one! What fortunate markings! And in just the right place for a wide-eyed, intelligent, and beautiful look on this lady/gentleman(?) I'm so sorry for your loss of the yellow one.

Actually yes. He loves being softly scratched and rubbed under his chin. Never once has he tried to bite. Our 9 year old loves having him watch TV with her.

Soft, if stroked the right way, but some tarantulas have stinging hairs that stick in skin a bit like a nettle. Katherine Rundel (in her book The Explorer, it is good) puts it best; “never mix up your tarantulas if you’re planning to stroke them”

It's amazing how fast they grow. At birth they were about the size of just the head. Small as a dime if you're in USA or Canada. They grow to full size in about 2 weeks and fully feathered in about 3 weeks.

I couldn’t add this but don’t mind the mess in the background. She is a mix of german shepard, border collie, pitbull, poodle, corgi, and believe or not otterhound which is one of the rarest dog breeds. She’s definitely mixed but I believe she is exotic.
