    It looks like a close up of a Grevillea (spider flower)... almost at "full bloom". They are native plants here in Australia.... A quick Google search showed ones in full bloom and ones similar to this pic, but I could be wrong 🤷‍♀️

    I should have said, they aren't mine! I took this photo when we were on a long walk around our neighborhood. One thing I discovered when we moved to Chicago was that people are garden crazy here. Even yards that people thing are "boring" are lovely. Peonies are very happy here, and our area is old enough that there are a lot of very old, very scented cultivars growing. These smelled fantastic - most modern flowering plants have had the scents bred out of them.

    Do you remember when Sunset magazine featured it on the front cover (1988??)? I knew I had to have one and I eventually did buy and plant one. The most perfect rose fragrance you'll ever find.

    Short story about these bulbs - I planted them late, so when their season came and went with no blooms, I thought they died. All of a sudden, these shot up in the early Fall. They looked eerily beautiful in the night, and I'm so glad I got a photo at their peak beauty! I can't wait to see them in a few more months!
