Hayden Panettiere’s father, Alan Lee “Skip” Panettiere, confirmed the tragic news, describing his daughter as an “incredible light” and a “force of nature.”
In a statement shared with TMZ, he said, “It is with profound sadness that we share the tragic passing of our beloved Hayden.”
“She was an incredible light and a force of nature who brought immeasurable love and joy to all who knew her, and to the millions who watched her onscreen. We ask for privacy as our family takes time to process this unimaginable loss.”
The outlet first reported her passing on Sunday after law enforcement sources confirmed that police had responded to an incident involving the actress and that an open investigation was underway.
Her sudden demise comes after years in which Panettiere had openly discussed her struggles with a***holism, postpartum depression, recovery, and the loss of her younger brother, Jansen Panettiere.
Jansen passed away in February 2023 at 28 due to cardiomegaly, or an enlarged heart, along with aortic valve complications.
Hayden had also spoken candidly about the devastating period following the birth of her daughter, Kaya, and her decision to allow her former partner, Wladimir Klitschko, to have full custody while she sought treatment.
Earlier this year, she described signing the custody papers as one of the most heartbreaking experiences of her life.
Now, however, fans are focusing on what the actress had revealed only months before her passing.
Fans are questioning the “suspicious” timing of Panettiere’s passing just months after her serious Hollywood revelations
Panettiere’s memoir, This Is Me: A Reckoning, was published on May 19, 2026, giving the actress a platform to revisit some of the darkest experiences of her childhood and Hollywood career.
Among the most disturbing revelations was her claim that people on her management team began giving her so-called “happy pills” when she was still a teenager.
The Nashville star said the pills were given to help make her appear more energetic and focused during interviews and red-carpet appearances.
She later described how those experiences contributed to her years-long struggle with a**iction.
While appearing on the On Purpose with Jay Shetty podcast, which aired on May 11 this year, Hayden also detailed a disturbing yacht incident she said occurred when she was 18.
The actress explained that the situation was especially painful because an industry friend she had “grown to trust” and viewed as a protector allegedly set her up.

The friend allegedly led her down into a small cabin while the boat was out at sea and physically put her into bed next to a “very famous” unclothed man.
Panettiere said she immediately went into a “ferocious” survival mode and told the man, “Look… I don’t know what she said to you, but this is not going to happen,” before bolting to find a place to hide on the boat.
One fan suggested, “She was just starting to tell her truth out loud and look what happened. That timing is not a coincidence…”
In her memoir, Hayden also alleged that a well-respected, Oscar-winning actor and director exposed himself to her at a private gathering when she was 19.
However, the actress did not publicly identify either man.
Hayden also spoke broadly about the culture surrounding young performers before the #MeToo movement, arguing that child actors could be treated more like commodities than children.
In light of these past revelations, many of the actress’s fans are suspicious of the timing of her passing.
“Anyone else find it weird that Hayden Panettiere went on Jay Shetty just 3 months ago exposing the industry and her a**se and what she went through as a child actor and then ends up d**d?” one person wrote online.
Another added, “Some of us were already concerned for her life weeks ago. She was starting to talk… This is so sad.”

Panettiere also used her memoir to reveal deeply personal parts of herself that she had previously kept private, including publicly identifying as bisexual.
The actress also described experiencing domestic violence during her on-and-off relationship with Brian Hickerson in the memoir.
Their relationship had been tumultuous for years, with Hickerson previously arrested multiple times in connection with incidents involving Panettiere and later serving jail time.
According to TMZ, Panettiere and Hickerson had reconnected before her passing and were together shortly before she d**d.
The pair had traveled together from Los Angeles to a Southern state on Saturday, August 15, just one day before her passing.
As of this writing, the investigation remains ongoing, and the official cause of Hayden’s passing remains unknown.
