I agree with Tom. 😁 (seriously? Me having a crush on Emma Watson back when she was playing Hermione would have been seriously creepy. I'm, erm, somewhat older - which means I still recall having a crush on Julie Walters (Molly Weasley) and Maggie Smith. Emma Thompson's portrayal of Sybil Trelawney left me slightly confused... 😉🤣 )

House elves aren't hired, or bought. Their ownership is passed down within families through inheritance (Harry inherited Sirius's house elf, Kreacher). Harry tricking Lucius into freeing their house elf, Dobby, by giving him a sock, was a big deal.

I'd have to find it again, but I read somewhere that Rowling based the Wizard money off of how British money was handled prior to 1971, when decimalisation took place. At that time, One Pound was 240 pence, 12 pence to the shilling, 20 shillings to the pound.

I always figured this was intentional on the part of Snape. He likely knew that the Dementors would tear out Barty Crouch Jr's soul the first chance they got, and wanted to make D**N sure he told them everything before that happened.

Because they don't. At most they are ensorcelled to act a certain way and say a limited number of phrases, IF you are important enough or rich enough. They cannot act or speak outside of the parameters of the spell cast on them. Most paintings are silent, not all of them even move, and they are all likely incredibly expensive.

Random fun/interesting fact for you. The first thing Snape asks Harry is “Potter! What would I get if I added powdered root of asphodel to an infusion of wormwood?” According to Victorian Flower Language, asphodel is a type of lily meaning ‘My regrets follow you to the grave’ and wormwood symbolized bitter sorrow. If you combined that, it meant ‘I bitterly regret Lily’s death’.
