Guy Enjoys $1.50 McDonald’s Breakfast Sandwiches For Months, Comes To Find He’s Been Banned

Interview With Author

Would you feel guilty about taking advantage of a multi-billion dollar corporation if it wouldn’t really harm them? This guy hadn’t.

After noticing a McDonald’s promotion offering a prime breakfast sandwich for less than one-third of the price, Reddit user Dork Kid couldn’t say no to it. So he bought it. Again and again and again.

However, people at the company eventually noticed their customer’s taste for discounted food, and they decided to do something about it. Continue scrolling to read Dork Kid’s post to learn how it all unfolded.

We got in touch with the Redditor to get more information about what happened and he was kind enough to have a little chat with us.

“To my knowledge, the terms and conditions did not explicitly limit the number of times a promotional deal could be used, but perhaps there was fine print I overlooked,” Dork Kid told Bored Panda.

His story comes just a month after the burger chain reported weaker-than-expected sales at its US stores and CEO Chris Kempczinski addressed McDonald’s “affordability” problem.

While inflation has slowed, prices for everyday necessities remain high, and people are getting frustrated. McDonald’s has become a regular target for social media users complaining about prices. Viral stories lamenting the cost of a Big Mac meal — particularly the $18 ones at a widely maligned Darien, Connecticut, location off I-95 — have become a TikTok genre unto themselves.

But even though the company is talking about losing customers, Dork Kid said he was just cast away.

“There were no warnings or notifications, which left me quite surprised by the sudden ban,” the Redditor explained.

“In situations like these, I believe a warning or a clear explanation would be the best approach from McDonald’s, giving customers a chance to understand and rectify their actions.”

In fact, he said the experience has been “quite distressing,” adding that  “the abrupt ban without prior communication has caused me unnecessary anxiety and has left me feeling unfairly treated.”

As the comments pointed out politely, this story is a load of hashbrowns. There is no one tracking your cheap egg mcmuffins.

Congratulations to getting the unhealthiest breakfast (every day!) for cheap. I’m sure your arteries appreciate the money saved.

Advance Auto gives out $5 coupons like candy. They also give 20% discount for ordering online and lets you apply the coupon on top of it. Had one customer who would put in as many as 5 or 6 online orders back to back. Every order also got him a new coupon.

Any time I need car parts I go there and buy some oil and within a couple I'm guaranteed to have a bunch of coupons emailed to me that are better than the newsletter ones

I hate apps, they are discriminatory against those that need the savings the most. My mother and all her elderly clique, for instance, are not tech savvy and can barely work a mobile phone, forget apps...they all miss out on their meagre pensions. Also, apps are for data stealing and the marketing teams pat themselves on the back for that but they are not really being value add clever just using stat's to cajole bonuses for themselves.

The data limits for BT Unlimited are clearly stated in the terms and conditions. UK contract law is very clear. You signed the contract, it's your responsibility to be aware kf the contents. All internet companies have this policy.

I do this regularly. Did it just a few days ago. I just do the BOGO on the breakfast sandwich and nothing else. 2 bacon egg & cheese biscuits for $4.59.

I'm not sure my stomach could handle eating a McD's breakfast sandwich every day. They're yummy, but all that grease catches up to you. :)

Sounds like someone learned the REAL reason businesses want you do to everything over their apps: so they can track you. I've been buying loss leaders for 40 years. I've used Safeway's [Albertson supermarket] app since they started pushing it in response to coronavirus. But I've shopped while accidentally logged out before (I clear cookies a LOT), and noticed that many items are substantially cheaper.

Unless it explicitly said that you had to order something else as well as the breakfast I don't see how they could ban you. You aren't exploiting anything unless that's the case. And IF that was the case they should have picked it up immediately on the first purchase and said "you need to order a drink or a muffin or something with that".

If this is an issue for McDonalds, just put limitations on the promotion. Like a max of say 5, or something. Since you are logging into your APP, they will have a tally. No limitations, then its not the customers fault if he uses it.

I am perplexed by the comment on original article by Zannahrain3 saying they had an old bank account card on the app file. Used for 2 years having not actually paid for the food. Sounds like it was quite often as they stated worked next door ordered through app. How is this possible?

I wonder if the franchisee contacted corporate (if this is a real story)? If I was going to hammer their deal I’d probably spread it around a couple of locations.
