What's the difference between Donald Trump and Kim Jong Un? Ones a power mad dictator who keeps threatening war, the other is Kim Jong Un.
The digital world moves much faster today than it ever used to. One clear sign of this change is how we interact with memes. People create and share more memes today than ever before, but these viral jokes don't stay popular for long.
Back in 2008, a typical meme stayed popular for nearly two years. By 2023, that average lifetime dropped to just four months. Today, a trend can go viral and fade away in a matter of days. The main reason for this drop is the speed of modern life.
As technology evolves, new stories and jokes flood the internet constantly, pushing yesterday’s memes out of the spotlight before they even have a chance to go viral.

Current event memes fade quickly because news moves at a relentless pace. Rapid updates in politics and popular culture constantly push older topics aside to make room for new trends.
During major events, topical jokes dominate the internet. For instance, during the FIFA World Cup, custom parodies and viral running jokes — such as framing stars like Erling Haaland or Kylian Mbappé in absurd roles like Vikings or dictators — took over social media platforms.
However, these specific jokes rarely last long on their own. Once the tournament ended, interest dropped, and people quickly moved on to the next headline.

This is actual sarcasm. I see a lot of people making a joke and putting /s and it's not actual sarcasm
Only memes that adapt to fresh attention manage to stick around. A single real-world event can instantly bring back forgotten trends. When Haaland surprised fans by trading his signature long hair for a dramatic buzz cut, social media immediately revived classic meme formats to react to his new look.
Ultimately, event-based memes survive only as long as their topic stays relevant. Reaction formats, by contrast, last much longer because people can reuse them whenever a new story breaks.

Think i've discovered why they have claustrophobia, their head appears to have something wrong with it.
A 2021 study that tracked popular memes on Reddit over a decade found that as the internet produced more content, meme diversity actually shrank.
This is because only the loudest and most shareable formats survive long enough to be seen.
The study noted that this is “evidence of an increase in competition and a decreasing collective attention span.”

The concept of Google maps protecting the privacy of dogs more than family channels protect the privacy of their children.
To understand how internet culture has evolved, one must look at the shift in everyday communication. What started as niche online humor has quickly transformed into a dominant global language. Today, memes appear everywhere — from personal group chats and corporate Slack channels to major advertising campaigns.
According to Instagram data, users share around one million memes on the platform every single day.
In the United States, internet users spend roughly two hours and 20 to 24 minutes daily on social media, filling their feeds with a constant stream of short videos, funny pictures, and trending jokes.

Younger generations drive most of this meme culture. A recent survey found that 75% of people aged 13 to 36 regularly post memes, with 55% sharing them weekly and 30% daily.
More than just entertainment, these images have become a core form of expression. The same survey found that 74% of people share memes simply for humor. Meanwhile, 53% use them to reply to messages, 35% send them as coded or cryptic responses, and 28% turn to them when words alone fall short.

Not really a coincidence. Ruth and Elliot Handler founded the Mattel company in 1945. Of course they spent the rest of their lives developing toys.
The memes that stick are the ones that feel universal.
Research shows that emotionally charged content gets shared two to three times more than neutral content. Humor-based memes also spread faster and last longer because of the positive reinforcement they create.
Studies also found that memes featuring people or characters with clear emotions — positive or negative — are far more likely to spread.
Relatability drives instant audience connection. A meme about the universal struggle of Monday mornings goes viral because many people share the experience.
Keeping up with these fresh memes is about staying connected.
Consider this list your shortcut to staying culturally aware, keeping your conversations entertaining, and enjoying the absolute best internet humor before it fades into yesterday’s news.

Our school's computer lab didn't have enough computers for the amount of students in each class, so computer studies day was basically a race to get a seat in front of a computer (Even if we weren't going to do anything on computer that day. The chairs in front of computers were comfortable unlike the wooden chairs of the tables in the middle 💀)

Andy Weir is a terrific writer, and I read all his stuff after “The Martian.” One of the rare times I had a total memory glitch, I didn’t remember the name of “Hail Mary,” so I’m watching the movie and when the astronaut starts communicating with the alien, I thought, “This is just like that Andy Weir book whose name I forgot!” It was at that point, I thought “Derp! 😵💫” Some memory glitches, like that one, are fun. The rest of ‘em are abhorrent. 😰

I like it when people draw what they saw from memory instead of secretly taking the person's picture without their knowledge.

If done properly then this is actually pretty smart. Because of how cars are designed, short people, especially women, have no choice but to sit far too close to the steering wheel. That's fine under normal driving conditions, but, in an accident they're liable to get the full force of the steering wheel airbag in their face and chest.

Low speed 50 mph and under, no problems. Over 50 mph, the combination of uneven weight side to side and different aerodynamic drag on the two sides would make cornering - interesting.

I'd like to thank Mark Zuckerberg, Jack Dorsey, et. al, for allowing the masses to show the rest of the world just how stupid we are. Samuel Morse never had to see his invention used for s**t like this.

Has anyone noticed? For once, BP hasn't capitalized every word in the titles. Looks so much better.

The individual posts' titles are the originals as they appear on Instagram. BP's only title contribution (currently "800K People Love This Page’s Sense Of Humor, Here Are 65 Of Its Best Posts") follows the usual BP style.
