Boyfriend Gets Called ‘Raging Douchecanoe’ After Secretly Putting Cheese Into His Lactose Intolerant Girlfriend’s Tacos
When people are asked during opinion polls what qualities they value most in their current or possible spouses and partners, a good sense of humor is always in the top five most popular and common answers.
Indeed, it is always great to go through life hand in hand with a person who is able to see something positive and funny even in the most difficult life situation. On the other hand, sometimes the person’s desire to reduce literally everything to jokes does not lead to good. After all, this is real life, not a non-stop stand-up festival.
A similar partner like this ended up with this woman, whose post in the AITA Reddit community at one time gained more than 32.6K upvotes and about 3.4K various comments. Yes, the boyfriend of the author of this post turned out to have a weird sense of humor, but at the same time, the joke almost turned into serious health issues for her.

So, the author of the original post is lactose intolerant, so she tries to avoid all possible dairy products as much as possible – they are simply not good for her health. Of course, every time she made tacos, she didn’t put cheese in them, and in doing so, she became the butt of jokes from her boyfriend.

The boyfriend kept joking that by not adding cheese to tacos, she is expressing disrespect to Mexican culture
For example, the guy joked that by doing so, she is expressing disrespect for Mexican culture – although he himself is not Mexican at all. The OP has said more than once that she would love to add cheese, but she just can’t do it. She asked him to stop making fun of her, but some time passed, and the jokes resumed.

Things took a very different turn one night when the partners again decided to make tacos and, of course, the woman again left the cheese out. She went to the bathroom for a while, and when she returned, she noticed that the tacos looked a bit different than when she prepared them.

Suspecting something was wrong, the woman started inspecting the food, and found out that cheese was hidden under all the ingredients. Obviously, her boyfriend decided to prank her in this way, while clearly not giving a damn about the health of his loved one.

As a result, the OP told the guy that he was “a raging douchecanoe” and went to bed, leaving him to do the dishes and clean the kitchen. She didn’t talk to him all morning either, although the man was offended that he was “forced” to do the dishes, as the OP usually does this.

Of course, the vast majority of people in the comments sided with the OP, criticizing her boyfriend heavily. Moreover, some commenters suggested that the woman even ask herself a question – is this the relationship in which she would like to be? If a guy knows well about his partner’s medical conditions and does this anyway, then this characterizes him from a very bad side.
Moreover, many true Mexicans came to the commentary and noted that in Mexico, it is generally not customary to eat tacos with cheese, and that this is more of a Western tradition. So even the OP’s boyfriend’s sense of humor failed him this time.

An authentic Mexican taco is a couple of corn tortillas with meat, cilantro, fresh chopped onion, and salsa (typically verde.) No cheese. What the hell was that clown-of-a-boyfriend talking about?
I was coming here to say just this. Tex Mex has cheese, traditional doesn't as far as I was aware. I'll just upvotes yourse instead and hope you get higher up so people can know how ignorant this guy was on top of being a bad boyfriend and a general a$$hole

I'm lactose intolerant too and the dairy free chesses suck, so I started making my own cheese. Just get some liquid lactase enzyme, rennet and citric acid (Amazon sells all three). Add the enzyme to pasteurized (NOT ultra-pasteurized) milk and Google "homemade mozzarella". It is surprisingly easy.
how difficult is it not to mess with other people's food? Even if a person doesn't have any medical, religious or ethical dietary restrictions, adding something they don't want to eat is a d**k move.
I am allergic to fish, so this would be like someone putting fish in my food knowing that it would make me sick. She needs to dump this loser and find her someone that can act like an adult.
I am allergic to a lot of fish. On a holiday with a now ex boyfriends parents, the father decided it was "a kindness" to hide some fish in my food to prove to me it was all in my head. Part way through dinner, I projectile vomited straight into his face. At first I was really embarrassed, until I realised what he had done. He was really angry like I'd done it on purpose, I got really angry and rather scared as I thought it was lucky I'd just vomited and not gone in to anaphylactic shock with people who assumed I was faking it. Boyfriend was mad at me for ruining the holiday. Anyhow, glad I found out what a loser I was dating and moved on.

What he did is an act of violence. I'm not saying he'll eventually start hitting her, but why stick around to find out. Abusers start small (tampering with your food) and work big (full out gaslighting).
I'd have to call a deliberate effort to poison OP by tampering with her food one hell of a red flag to GTFO before the abuse gets worse.

Anybody in any relationship who can't respect your allergy or intolerance should be dumped immediately!! I swear, if I was with someone who did such a thing to me, if my allergy or intolerance was potentially life threatening, I would call police and charge the chithead with attempted murder!!!!

The easy fix would be putting cheese in his taco but none in your own, but for him to poison your food as a joke is abominable. I would like to add, for those that may not know, that if you check the ingredients for regular cheese, and the contents state 0% carbohydrates, it should be safe to eat? My hubby is lactose intolerant, but the things that bother him most are all added flavorings with powdered milk, like on paprika chips/crisps etc, less processed dairy food usually makes him less sick, so it's worth to try different things if you can
Real sad for her. Cheese in my country has no lactose (some do but those are mostly french stank cheeses, but all white cheeses are naturally dairy free). :)
