Social media can be a wonderful place to learn new information, but it can also be a great place to find entertainment. There are countless funny videos of cats out there and endless streams of hilarious memes. But one often underappreciated aspect of social media is the humble comments section, so today, we plan to put some respect on its name.
We visited Epic Top Comments on Instagram and compiled a list of their most amusing posts below. From clever replies on X to hysterical observations on TikTok, these posts prove that nothing can get past netizens. FACT CHECK: Women were allowed to have bank accounts long before the American 1974 Equal Credit Opportunity Act. Single women, widows, and many married women held independent bank accounts, and later credit cards, throughout the 20th century. Now, there WERE banks that would refuse MARRIED women from having a bank account or credit card without the co-signature of their husbands or another person--they did NOT have to be male, they simply had to be credit-worthy. So why pick on married women? Because before 1974, married women tended to not have paid jobs or their own incomes! The same holds true today--a person, male or female, has no job or independent income, they're going to have a harder time getting a bank account, loans, or credit cards without a co-signer. The Equal Opportunity Act of 1974 did not say married women without an income no longer needed a co-signer, only that banks couldn't bar them from applying based only on their gender or marital status.
