Having a boss that cares about you is the best. Encouraging your personal and professional development, making you feel like a valuable member of the team, even saying a simple "thank you" really contributes to job satisfaction.
Sometimes, however, it feels like this boss doesn't even exist. Like they're just a fictional character, created by some business management faculty to trick students into joining the workforce.
Take this viral thread for example.
It started with a tweet by comedian Kevin McCaffrey. In it, McCaffrey recalled the time when he told his manager that his grandma had died before a double shift he was scheduled for. Their response? "Can you just work one shift?"
As the tweet blew up, people started replying with baffling phrases they heard from bosses themselves. Below are some of the most delirious ones.

I had a manager tell me I couldn't go to the funeral of my best friends mother. She said it was my responsibility to find a replacement, I told her no, it was her responsibility. I went to the funeral
Bored Panda got in touch with McCaffrey to learn more about the story behind his famous tweet. "I was a server in Anderson, Indiana for 4 months in 2003," he said. "Was I happy with it? No, haha, but I don't blame OG. It was a good server job in the area, the employees were very cool overall."
McCaffrey doesn't really remember what the real reason was that day, but he has a theory. "The TV department at Ball State's activity fair (called SuperParty) where people sign up for what shows they want to work on for the year. I was the host and EP of a late night talk show, and they wouldn't let me take the day off. I wasn't gonna miss it, so fake grandma had to have a bad day."
A friend who worked the registers at a large orange hardware store said one morning a colleague called in sick. Their assistant manager told her to report to work or you're fired. So the employee dragged herself out of bed, drove to work, stood at the cash register and within a half an hour had vomited all over the conveyor belt. The assistant manager then tried to get her to clean up her own vomit and continue working. The other employees rallied behind the sick employee and began arguing with the assistant manager. The store manager walked in the door to find this mutiny underway. He fired the assistant manager on the spot, apologized to the team, told the sick employee to go home, and then cleaned up the mess himself because he didn't want his other employees to get sick.
You can say Home Depot. There’s no law that prevents that.

A soccer coach who was asked by journalists why that player wasn't their for their game. the coach tell them is wife's player was about the have their baby so he was with them for the occasion. this didn't seem to be a good reason for the journalists wich really infuriated the coach who told them that the birth of their child it's the greatest moment of a father and he was right to missing the game to be there.
Was it a German coach? We have laws for stuff like this.
Load More Replies...I was put onto new medications by my doctor once which would take two months to fully come into effect, so my doctor put me on medical leave for those two months (Short version, I was dealing with severe bowel distress in a security monitoring call center, so stepping away when I had to do so COULD NOT ALWAYS HAPPEN). I went to my job to show my manager (A family member who was personally aware of my health) the doctor's orders. She said "Get yourself better, so what you need to for your health". I was fired a month later for not coming to work within a 30 day period, as stated in the employee manual. Gotta love a job that cares about your well being.
Here in the U.S., you had grounds to at least sue for unemployment, probably even actual damages. If you have a Dr.s statement, they cannot fire you, unless you do not return at the end of leave. They wouldn't have to pay you, they just could not fire you. The only exception would maybe be if it stated otherwise in a contract, such as salary, or with gig work which really has few safeguards
Load More Replies...I once had a severe fall from a ladder. I broke the end off my elbow and tore every muscle in my arm when it dislocated. I was working retail at the time and it was in the midst of the Christmas rush. After 4 days off I was forced back to work with a full cast on my arm and hopped up on pain meds. I couldn't even shower or brush my hair properly.
Lots of managers are like this. You’re contagious, so I’d prefer you to come in and infect everybody rather than have a couple of days off. Other than moral reasons to let people have time off, in a busy workplace that’s potentially dozens of more employees getting ill and taking time off, so having one person isolate themselves surely is good business sense (as well as being the right thing to do anyway) if all you care about is money.
Statements from long-extinct managers: Sick? "Go home, I'll cover for you." Getting married? "Have fun. We'll hold down the fort until you get back." Death in the family? "Sorry for your loss. Take as much time as you need." Modern managers know nothing about the jobs of the people working for them. They know only how to manage and don't even do that very well. They rely on minions to crack the whips. When one employee is out of the office for any reason, they can't handle it. If our jobs are so danged important that they can't go for one day without us, why then do they pay us so little? We should be getting ten times the amount.
Load More Replies...Now imagine this same scenario today....I think the boss would have been fired instead
Hmmm .... she was happy to ignore the roaches up until the employer upset her. Not cool. Not cool at all.
OP says "they'd kept ignoring" the roaches. Clearly management knew about the problem and did nothing. How you do you know management didn't know about it because OP had told them, repeatedly? I don't know that she did, but you should check your assumptions.
Load More Replies...They don’t anymore? Does Kmart still exist?
Load More Replies...Good for you! Way to teach them right? How about when the roaches first appeared? Was it ok then or did you not have any need for days off?
So she worked at a restaurant that had cockroaches in the kitchen. But she didn't report that because she was afraid of losing her job. But when they refused to give her leave she reported it, even though she knew she would loose her job? So now she suddenly doesn't care if she's fired or not! Disgusting.
The main thing McCaffrey took away from all the replies his tweet got was that "management, in every job, is delusional."
"They demand far more than they're willing to give almost everywhere, and expect people who are clearly working survival jobs to bail on everything in their lives to deliver unlimited salad and breadsticks for 2.13 an hour and an average of about 10% tip," he said. "I also learned that there are plenty of people very mad that I lied in 2003 at the Anderson Indiana Olive Garden and missed that shift."
I feel this so much. My dad was that kind of boss. I escaped death by inches. Regs said I get a medical check to be safe. I'm sitting down waiting for the mandatory paramedic. My dad rolls by and screamed at me to get back to work. Crew chief et al. tried to step up, but he wasn't gonna be told no. So I got back to work, no medical check. I needed the money to get an education so I would never have to work for that SOB again. And that's reality in the USA.
If he was that upset about one day off then imagine how he felt about her getting pregnant in the first place - Maternity leave etc.
Unfortunately you don't get maternity leave in the US. 😐🙁
Load More Replies...I agree, but let's not forget that there are families that are abusive, so "always" doesn't always apply
Load More Replies...I feel sorry for your manager because evidently s/he doesn't know what family is :(
This isn’t true. They probably care about their own family deeply. It is our families that he doesn’t care for. These people are always the same. Them above anyone else’s. Rules for thee, not for me. That kind of asshat.
Load More Replies...If a manager is asking that question then they should not be charge of themselves let alone a business or other people.
How is that even a question? You will have lots of jobs in your life but only one family.
Who else imagines he had a shocked pikachu face when she answered family?
He was legitimately surprised when I said family. He then wordlessly spun around and stomped off.
Load More Replies...I had a manager once doubt that my mother had cancer and major surgery that removed a lot of her intestines, colon, bladder, and vagina. She had a 20% chance of living. Same manager took 2 weeks off because his dad had routine shoulder surgery.
It wasn't. He was genuinely shocked I answered incorrectly with "family". He stormed off.
Load More Replies...I can relate. My first "real" job had a somewhat similar situation. I was 17, my mother called the office (pre-cell phone days) from her office and told me she was sick and needed me to drive her home. My extremely work-aholic mother who was in at her office 7 days a week. If she said she needed to go home, it was serious. I told my boss I needed to leave. She told me I needed to decide what was more important, my work or my family. Easiest decision ever. Handed in my resignation the next day.
A study by CareerBuilder.com shows that a whopping 58 percent of managers said they didn’t receive any management training. Let that sink it. Most managers in the workforce were promoted because they were good at what they did, not because they made the people around them better. This statistic might explain their lack of competence. Our leaders aren't trained to lead.
I worked at a Penguin Point when we had a fire that took out the water heater. The owner was mad that I called the FD to put it out since then the health department would shut the store down until the water heater was replaced. Too bad so sad.
At the pizza place I deliver for we almost had a fire over the weekend. A rag got stuck in the oven and started smoking. Luckily, we were all fine.

The whole afternoon shift employees were using giant squeegees to shove the water out the doors, the manager opened the store, people slipped in the water, employees vomited from the burnt plastic fumes. Guys tried to walk down the plumbing aisles even though they were roped off and fell. Employers don't care about workers at all just the money.
I've made one. It's a picture of the Titanic sinking with the caption "YOU'VE STILL GOTTA COME IN TOMORROW. MONEY DOESN'T MAKE ITSELF.".

Something that is very clear in UK employment laws is the employee not only has to be physically fit for work but also EMOTIONALLY fit for work, as is this case, not that I'm comparing anything but when my dog died a few years ago my boss let me have 4 days off and then she called me and checked if I was ok, FOR A DOG, she knew how much I loved that dog and knew I needed a few days to compose myself etc.
Smells highly invasive and therefore illegal. Legitimate labor lawyers please correct me if I’m wrong.
Wow.... Guess you can have a human status without a single drop off humanity
Here's another interesting fact for you. Leigh Branham, author of The 7 Hidden Reasons Employees Leave revealed that 89 percent of bosses believe employees quit because they want more money. I bet any boss would love this statistic to be true (because it basically pardons them from wrong-doing) but it is simply not true. Only 12 percent of employees actually leave an organization for more money.
Yeah, 99% of people in food service are there just because they get paid. It's not really a 'calling' or 'career'.
Agreed, unless you work in an upscale restaurant where you genuinely get trained and become highly knowledgeable, you're there bc you get paid.

I'm not here for the money. I'm here so I don't have to live in my car. Oh, wait, I guess I am here for the money
Nobody should want idiots working for them and only idiots work an unfulfilling job for a reason besides money.
"Sure, boss. My consulting rate is $350 an hour plus expenses. When do I start?"
I would framed that and hung it next to a copy of my letter of resignation. Would make a good conversation piece.
There was no letter of resignation. The person had been fired.
Load More Replies...I'm a bit perplexed that work would even have the right to know your Dr, let alone ring them on a whim.
Yeah I was thinking the same thing... why would the employer have the number to the doctor? And doctors are not supposed to tell whether or not they have you as a patient. And the timeline here is weird: she goes to the doctor, then goes home. Somehow the employer finds out about that (she/doctor must have told them) but then they still call the doctor to ask about her. So she is basically the only person who could have told them about everything. Or am I missing something here?
Load More Replies...And also: how would the workplace know about her being sent home? Either she or the doctor must have phoned them. And if it was the doctor, why would they call him back? Also, it was a “scheduled c-section”. Scheduled. But somehow no one prepared for it. So what was the plan here? That she would go back to work the next day?
In Europe, employers do not know which doctor an employee has and even if they knew, it would be illegal for them to contact him. It's even illegal for them to ask an employee why he wants to see a doctor or needs to have an operation.
A Harvard Business Review survey revealed that only 49% of full-time workers responded that they had "a great deal of trust" in those working above and alongside them.
That becomes a bigger problem when you consider their other research which has found that positive teams that trust each other are more productive, creative, and resilient and improve the organization’s overall effectiveness.
"F**k your grandmother, you work for me!" -This guy's boss
Load More Replies...This boss attends funerals for rest and recreation. Cheaper than a resort and you get to visit churches, temples, funeral homes, cemeteries, and you get a free show up front and then a flash mob of sad people. What - most people don't attend funerals for a vacation??
Seriously, I once attended a funeral where the widow and mother were totally grief-stricken, while the man's daughter ran the "show" (that's all it was to her) and treated the funeral like another networking opportunity.
Load More Replies...Had a boss who said to me, two days after my Dad's death, "What's wrong with you? You're not still upset over your father?". She was evil.
One winter, my brother died in a fire. Because of inclement weather, most family and friends were unable to travel. So the family had him cremated and planned a memorial service for later that year. When he died I took two days off because I couldn't bring myself to come into work. The following week, my boss rejected my time card because I had selected 2 days for "funeral" leave, which was the classification in the system. He said "You didn't actually go to a funeral." I said, "Why should that make any difference? HE STILL DIED." Nope. I had to use hard earned vacation time. Looking back, I should have claimed sick leave due to my mental state. Some years later the classification was changed to "bereavement" leave, due to the number of employees who were unable to travel for funerals. I should have demanded my two days of vacation to be restored.
On the flip side, I’ve worked with people who seemed to have an endless supply of grandparents who apparently kept rising from the dead and having to be reburied, funerals and all.
In my country, we get a day off by law, when close family dies. All these stories make me think about working laws and yes, I have to think about the USA...
What was that boss’ definition of “too much”? 3 or 4 check-in calls in an 8 hour shift? A 15 minute call every hour? One long 8 hour constant phone call? The first is not at all too much, considering the circumstances. The second is pushing it, but if it’s only temporary, accommodations can be made, temporarily, as long as the job still gets done. The third actually IS too much, and it would not at all be unreasonable for the boss to try and put a stop to it.
For real, we only have their vague side of it. Checking in during breaks or answering when the wife calls? Fine. But plenty of people take personal calls for like half an hour at a time when they should be working.

Third, and this has happened to me in the past so really burns me up, FOUR FULL MONTHS NOTICE OF THE REQUEST TO TAKE THAT DAY OFF!!! Need I say more?
Hopefully he is now your patient and you give him a prostate exam every time he shows at your office.
Recognition is the number one thing employees say their manager could give them to elevate their job satisfaction to new heights. Sadly, as you can see from the tweets, not every boss gets it. Global studies prove that when it comes to inspiring people to be their best at work, nothing else comes close—not even higher pay, promotion, autonomy, or training.
Sir, I hate to break it to you but school IS more important than this shitty underpaid job.
Correct answer was: "Yes, school is more important. Without a good education I may end up working at Kohl's as an adult"
Obviously school was not important to them or they would not have been so stupid to ask that question.
I worked at Kohl's too and it drove me nuts with their "customer is always right policy" our khols wasn't in the best of neighborhood's and time and time again crackheads would come in with GARBAGE bags full of old disgusting clothes that were brands we didn't even sell. They would exchange them for brand new clothes every. single. time. One time an old lady came in (she'd be a "karen" now a days) and bought a whole bathroom set that was breakable, I mean everything, rugs, towels, dispensers, you name it, made me triple wrap everything, ok that's fine, but then when I told her the total was over 250 she flipped out talking about a sell. Showed me the add and I explained it excluded this particular set (it was printed on the ad) she cussed me out THREW all the heavy stuff at me, and the manager apologized to HER and made me put everything back and berated me for not asking if she wanted to open a charge card. Un freaking believable.

There's more to this story. There is no way that manager isn't going to want to cover his ass (or the company's) after an injury causing incident at the fault of said company.
At my first job as a hairdresser at a family hair care shop. I was severely bitten and then injured by a young child who was in my chair (his mother left him alone to go shopping at the TJ Maxx next door. After biting my hand, he jumped from my chair and ran for the bathroom and I tried to hold the heavy door so he wouldn't slam the door. My boss shut the door breaking three fingers on my dominant hand. The kid locked himself in the bathroom, I was bleeding and my fingers were useless and my boss wanted me to take another client while the kid was locked in the bathroom.

She was given three days to make necessary arrangements. She was not expected to be "over it" in that time. I know it's hard, but the living must go on regardless of how they feel.
Some of these comments are depressing. Just because you also only get X days doesnt make something okay. We experienced a tragic family death where we didn't get the body back for over a week, I'm sure its longer for some circumstances. It's not all about paperwork. Context and individual circumstances are important
Employers should absolutely consider individual circumstances when granting compassionate leave - with reasonable flexibility (a good employer should have given you, in your example AT LEAST a fortnight, minimum). But what this is about is grief. Some people may never get over the loss of a loved one, but the employer cant keep them on the payroll indefinitely until they feel able to come back to work. Some people want to come back after a few days because it keeps their mind off things and is a welcome distraction. I believe the OP is probably quoting her mother's employer's policy - because some kind of standard needs to be in place - what should also have been in place is additional wording that allows for more flexibility for circumstances. The employer is not expecting them to "get over" the loss in 3 days. That is not what the policy means.
Load More Replies...A minimum of five days should be the norm everywhere. When a a family member passes there are many things to sort through NOT even taking into account the utter sorrow. I know from personal experience when I lost my parents, brother and niece (at different times ) I was a total mess. Thank God I at least had the 3 bereavement days) but did need to add two vacation days for travel, not every funeral is within the 3 days either. Most employees are very loyal to their employers and work crazy schedules or hours at the drop of a hat. The bereavement leave should be a nonissue.
One place I worked Compassionate Leave was based on seniority. Junior staff got 3 days, senior 5. As if status had anything to do with grief, the tasks in life that need to be done. People might not agree but it seemed wrong to me. They did change it a few years later. After that most places I worked gave two weeks compassionate leave.
That's what I love about German law. You can have a doctor give you a note about being unable to work. It's not sick leave. It's just being unable to work

Edward, you arsehole. You don't know what it's like to be autistic and you never will
Sometimes it's hard to tell how a job will affect you until you're in it. I switched from one retail job, to a different one, and I thought oh, I know how to do this... I can handle this. NOPE!
Why did you take a job so obviously too stressful for you? Is your employer supposed to tell his customers "Sorry, the waiter doesn't feel up to it right now." ?
Why would you take paid time off over medical leave? No boss is going: " Wow, what an outstanding employee!!! Taking PTO instead of the medical leave he could have gotten. Amazing, remind me to promote him and give him a raise when he comes in." Instead they'll be like: " Jeez, what a dumb@ss. Remind me to fire him when he returns."
You say "being european i never considered it". Its not about being european its about being privileged. I worked in Belgium with an interim contract (as mot migrants do since they wont give us real contracts). You only get paid if you work so when I was sick I wouldnt be paid no natter what.
Load More Replies...You and me both. Living in a country where you can take as much sick leave as necessary and you get some form of pay for it as long as it is backed by a doctors note, I really don't get the concept of having so many sick days you can use in a year. At one point I had the best part of 2 years continuous sick leave. I dread to think what would have happened if I'd lived in the States, not to mention what the medical bills would have been like for a 7 month stay in hospital.
Load More Replies...Jeez, you had a terrible time with the wisdom teeth. Mine were not nearly that bad.
Which dentist removed all your wisdom teeth at once?? They are not supposed to do that! You cannot eat and of course the healing procedure will take longer! I actually had to convince mine to remove two of them together and she only did it because both were from the same side so I could eat!!
Not your problem either. You say it like they were sick on purpose JFC

Not knowing where you live, but if you had lived in the US, there would have been workman's comp which would not only had paid for your medical needs but would have paid you for time missed and would have allowed you to stay out of work until medically okayed to work with pay.
I worked at denny's and damn near cut my thumb off, dumb teenage me didn't know about workman's comp and was talked out of going to the ER (I later found out because of workman's comp lol) I went home took a butterfly bandage and tried to let it heal. Two days later I came back, first tray I grabbed split it open and I started bleeding everywhere and they fired me for it.
National Labor Relations Board (NLRB). ACLU. Start dialing those numbers, folks, if you are in the US. Thi sis why we unionized. Workmen's comp. Sick pay. Vacations. Sick time. Etc.
The parents should have told this kid to stay home and sue the boss for child endangerment.
Employer should have faced legal action. I wonder how many other employees were in danger of injury or worse.
The dining experience is comparable, too.

I finished up working a weekend on a customer site on my birthday, which I wouldn't normally do, as I work Monday to Friday. The customer went out and bought a birthday cake for me and sang Happy Birthday to me in the office. Those crazy Dutch. Still makes me smile when I think about it.
That's actually incredibly nice. Humanity still has hope.

yea but she (BEX) didn't have to be such a bitch about it.

Her name is Rachel. I know at least 5 Rachels. If you spelled my name wrong, I would be mad because you probably used Nymphadora, which you chouldn't have used any way.
I’d never gotten anything like a goodbye cake even in places I’ve worked a lot longer than 2 years. Maybe the bakery messed it up. This reeks of narcissism
It’s spelled. Spelt is a grain. At least you got a cake, probably the bakery that misspelled it so not sure why you felt the need to be rude to them?
So, you're still this bitter over a typo on a cake? You may want to consider therapy.
So... you fought to go back to work for these people... and you were satisfied about it?? What am I missing?
That kind of happened to me once. I worked a shitty job at Walmart and my supervisor and another manager called me to their office and told me I was being fired because I was working when I was not scheduled and did not come in when I was scheduled. I reminded them I worked the same hours every week and my schedule had been approved by not only my supervisor but the store manager. They created my schedule in the system to reflect better numbers for them at the store level. I asked them if they’d like me to call the District Manager and have him help us sort it out. They declined and tore up the discharge paperwork. My God, I hated working for that company.
allergic to cough medicine. that really sucks mate
I know I didn't even realize that was possible until now.
Load More Replies...Pssst, pro tip. Store managers only listen to customer complaints. You have to encourage the customers to talk to management about this stuff.
Me too. Thought there was something called Help a Long, or something.

We went into an Ihop (pancake / breakfast place) and this poor girl was forced to work and was the ONLY waitress. when we left we tipped her 100 bucks because we felt so sorry for her and then berated the manager. I told the manager, you have a sick employee that shouldn't even be at work never mind around food, and where the hell were you the whole time?? I handed the girl her tip personally because I'll be damned if she had to split it with the back of the house etc. nope.
Hepatitis A ? That can be passed through non-washed hands. Cannot work in food service with it !!!!!!
wow, kidney stones suck(from what ive heard) and if your pissing rocks, you need to stay home.
My older brother got kidney stones and it didn't sound pleasant

A friend of mine with kidney stones apologized to the woman he was sharing a hospital room with. He thought he was being too dramatic when he moaned from the pain. She said, “Honey, I’ve had six kids and a kidney stone, and the kids were a walk in the park by comparison.”
I worked in care for about 2 years before the staff ended up giving me a nervous breakdown. I still haven't recovered fully and have permanent back problems too, that was 13 years ago now....
My brother died. I was crying in my office. Mu boss came in and told me i had to stop crying because it was freaking my coworkers out
Yo, Kidney "Stone" is basically Like Kidney waste that hardens from not drinking Water, and when you pee, it will hurt like Heck. I didn't get Kidney Stone, a Family Friend Told me about it.
I am sorry about your miscarriage and they should have sent you home. As for the other two complaints you had, all I can say is it's retail and the expectation is that you are there to work through holidays. Your anniversary, while special to you and your hubby, well if you didn't get your request for time off in a timely manner, that is not your boss's fault. It's the nature of the beast and the beast is retail.
Right? SOMEONE has to work on thanksgiving, and nobody cares except you about your anniversary or birthday or whatever. I’m not even sure why people get mad about that, like otherwise they’d be spending the entire 24 hours doing anniversary stuff? I mean I don’t spend my whole birthday doing birthday stuff, and usually have to do birthday stuff on a different day.
Load More Replies...Honestly, how do you pandas think this is supposed to go. "Oh, yeah, she's rude, but it's our job to work around her problems?!?
A female work colleague suddenly started to have a problem with alcohol and would fly into a rage for the tiniest reason. She got a written warning but did not give a reason for drinking on the job. Months later we were in the kitchen area on our own and she admitted she had suffered a yet another miscarriage felt ashamed of telling anyone. The anyone being a male manager who would not even sanction time off to attend direct family funerals. So I definitely have sympathy for her post.
Load More Replies...He didn't have to Fire you, he should understand it. It 's because out of anger, and you wanted to Vent it out, that's why you were Rude.
The way I read I see two invalid reasons and one valid reason and the way it is brought it seems uncommunicative about so I guess the boss just had to guess
Load More Replies...i worked every Thanksgiving and Christmas Eve when i worked at Target. didn't automatically get my anniversary off either /s. my husband worked there too. we had to work weekends and holidays. because that's retail. if you want time off, you put in for time off. i am sorry she lost her baby, and she should have been granted some time off for that (not sure Target does that). but the rudeness is on her.
Treating you like s**t is fine until you start treating them like s**t. The selfishness of people continues to amaze me.
I feel like this may have been shortened and is missing some context
That's a strange thing to lie about. Maybe they sensed you did. And actually knowing you'd use such a lie to get out of work doesn't say great things about you. I would not want you to be my employee.
They were probably more sympathetic the first time she died. But after she died the third time...
I had some things happen at my last job where every single solitary person I spoke to had the same two responses: "That has to be illegal" and "You should sue him". I finally went to both a lawyer and the state dept. of labor and asked them what I could do. Their response? "It's an at-will state. You can quit." Both literally told me my boss could essentially do whatever he liked without repercussions and the only right I really had was the right to quit.

My junior year at college I worked part time as a teller at a bank. I found out my aunt was murdered and called a co-worker/friend because I wasn't comfortable telling anyone else. She called our supervisor for me; supervisor called me and said "you weren't really that close to her, were you?" It was like "bitch, I don't care if she was Satan's wife, she was my aunt. Let me go home to be with my family." I also had to make the rounds to my college professors to explain why I needed to be excused from class. One had the nerve to ask me "can I interview you for a research paper I'm doing?" Thankfully, the next professor I went to I had for 2 classes and he was extremely caring and told me to take as much time as I needed - thank you Dr. Moon, wherever you are.
I have a good boss and coworker story. I got into a really bad car accident recently and my manager drove out to the scene to see if I was okay and the guy she called in to replace me drove out to the scene to check on me as well. The doctor told me not to go back to work for three days and no one is upset about that.
After i had a miscarriage and had to have two operacions because of complications, my boss (knowing exactly what was happening) called me on the day of the second operation, that i should be back at work by now and that she doesnt see why it takes so long...
Really, and a woman as well? That's horrible you got treated like that.

I was an assistant manager for Kmart some years back. I was constantly bullied by another assistant manager who was a male. The store manager had no backbone and would not stand up to the bully. It was so bad that I would have panic attacks prior to going into work. My hair was falling out from the stress as well. I would cry every day I had to work both while on my way into work and while I was there. It was so stressful. I needed the job as I was a single mom. I ended up calling the ethics board of Kmart and told them everything that had happened to me. 4 months later an opportunity to move opened up for me and I quit my job. I gave them a month's notice too. Nothing happened to the store manager or the bully until a year later when I found out that because of their actions and my reporting to the ethics board, I could collect unemployment even tho I quit. It was then that there was an investigation and both the store manager and the bully were fired on the spot! I danced that day.
