In 1973, the U.S. Supreme Court issued a landmark decision in which the Court ruled that the Constitution of the United States protects a pregnant woman's liberty to choose to have an abortion without excessive government restriction. But now the Supreme Court wants to turn the U.S. into a dystopian hellscape by overturning abortion rights.

According to the initial draft majority opinion written by Justice Samuel Alito that circulated inside the court, “Roe was egregiously wrong from the start.” The document also stated that “We hold that Roe and Casey must be overruled. It is time to heed the Constitution and return the issue of abortion to the people’s elected representatives.”

The decision, which is expected to go formal in June, will open up the nation’s 31 Republican-controlled states to pass severe or total abortion restrictions. And this did not sit well with people who went into tears watching Elizabeth Warren fuming with anger on Tuesday when she gave her speech.

So they took to the internet to show rage and despair over the American court system that yet again failed its people, especially those at their most vulnerable.

Many people agreed with Warren as they felt rage and despair over the Supreme Court mercilessly failing women and turning the country into a dystopian hellscape

I was going to say something similar to this. They don't give a flying rat's a*s about those babies. They give no aid to the women carrying them, they won't buy formula, diapers or clothes for those babies, they won't adopt those babies when they are abandoned, they won't do anything for the kids who end up in foster care, being handed over from "family" to "family" again and again. They won't contribute to education or helping them get a good start in their adult life. Pro-lifers are the scum of the earth

Dear Nathan David It is a baby only after it is born. So nobody is murdering babies. As long as it is in the mother's womb it is a foetus. To explain things to simpletons like you, medical professionals use the term "baby" loosely. If you want to know the difference between embryo, foetus & a baby there are plenty of articles available with a simple search.

I appreciate the intention of this, but please can we get away from "if you don't want the baby just give it up for adoption". A pregnancy lasts 9 months. During which you entire body changes, it's exhausting and sometimes risky. It is also life-changing to grow and bear a baby. Don't act like this is a perfectly good solution. If I don't want a baby, I don't want to be forced to breed and bear one.

Yes but you are missing the point. OP is not saying that the alrernative to abortion is adoption. Op is saying that those so called "pro lifers" do not care at all for the women and the fetuses. If they did they would do the things that op mention.

    And I'm pro-Maria who found out that she was pregnant by suffering from hyperemisis gravidarum for the third time and now had to choose between burdening her existing kids and spouse with that pregnancy again while risking her own life again with a good risk of also removing all remaining mobility in her body and suffering PTSD and post-partum depression again or terminate. That is a legitimate, medical reason to terminate. Even if someone had paid my pregnancy bills, it still would have killed the family, ripped me and my spouse apart toward a divorce and then we'd have an extra life in the mix.

    I am pro Laura. She has a extremly risk of complications, ectopic pregnancy and death if she gets pregnant. But at the same time she is denied over and over sterilisation by doctors. She might die horribly if she gets pregnant and the fetus will not come to term. But "pro lifers" dont care.

    I'll reply to cowardly Nathan here since he isn't allowing any replies on his post. Smashing a kid's skull against the wall is not the same thing as having an abortion but it does address the problem of people having children when they're not ready. His entire problem is viewing it as killing a baby. Regardless of all the medical literature available, these people view a less than 20 week old fetus the exact same way that they view a fully developed child. If the fetus needs a host in order to survive, it is not the same thing as a baby.

    I asked an OB-GYN about tubal ligation when I was in my early/mid 20s. He told me I wasn't old enough to make that decision, and that he would not do it. I asked if he would have the same answer if I was asking for advice on how to get pregnant. After some hemming & hawing he admitted he would not, but still would not consider the ligation. "What if 'Mr Right' comes along and he wants kids?" Then he's not Mr Right for me, now, is he? (For the record, I'm now 58 & still haven't changed my mind about not wanting children.)

    This s#*t needs to stop. My mother tried to get her tubes tied at 22 after having two children. The doctor wouldn't do it because she was "too young". She went on to have seven more children and two miscarriages. I mean, I'm the ninth child so lucky I guess but I still wish she'd had control over her own damned body! Oh and this was in 1950.

    I had a ligation done. Had to fight for that, having 2 kids already. My excuse was it’s reversible. Then I was a passenger in a motorcycle accident. Impact trauma ‘caused my uterus to basically fold in on itself (since it wasn’t attached to the ovaries). It’s no longer reversible. Just remove it. It causes more problems for my health now. But my useless uterus still belongs to everyone other then me. Fought for the ligation and unless I’m bleeding to death, I’m still in ‘viable birthing years’. Even though it’a so far past reversible. Pathetic.

    This analogy seems like it could be used to support forced abortions so I’d be really careful with this one. Adoption is a legal process with specific requirements that should have nothing to do with whether a woman or girl should be able to make decisions about her own body.

    For me if women can be forced to give their bodies to a fetus for 9 months then men should be able to be forced to donate part of their liver to a complete stranger to save their life. Nobody in their sane mind would pass a law that would force men to donate organs unwillingly to random strangers, even if the stranger would die.     Right now, if a woman doesn’t have a heartbeat and is declared dead, you STILL can’t dictate what happens with her body. Unless she gave permission while she was alive, you can not harvest her organs for donations. Not even if that organ would save the life of her living child who desperately needs one. The “pro-life” crowd affords her corpse more bodily autonomy than they would afford her in life.

    It's also worth noting and repeating endlessly that banning abortions will not stop women from getting abortions. It will stop a lot of women from getting safe abortions. It won't stop rich women from getting safe abortions. If you're pro-life, you should care about the lives of the mothers as much as you do for her fetus. Instead of talking about ending access to safe abortions, we should be talking about social programs to help people get ahead in life and have better solutions for people who find themselves in bad situations. A society where women do not have control over when they want to become mothers is not going to be a good society. We might as well turn our back on everything we've accomplished.

    It’s not a person though, and that matters especially because this is also a human discussion. Someone who refuses to donate blood to their living, breathing child is not someone I want to be in the same room as. I don’t think they should face legal punishment but I would wish them nothing but absolute misery in life. A woman who gets an abortion is not hurting anyone and should not be put in that category.

    How about: Abortion is legal till week 22/24. From this point on the chance for the fetus to survive outside the Uterus is over 50 % (if in intense medical care). So instead of an abortion women with unwanted pregnancies get a cost free C-section, the child automatically has to be adopted by the pro-lifers or next church that pays for all medical costs of mother and child. The mother will stay anonymous at all times. I'm sure church and pro-lifers back out?

    I’m not entirely sure if you’re being sarcastic, but I still wanted to reply. I agree- if pro-lifers really wanted to make a difference, they would offer adequate medical care, costs covered, instead of shouting at the poor women who feel abortion is their only option that they’ll burn in hell. However at 22 weeks, although the baby’s viable, it would be ridiculous to require a c-section because at that point baby would require months in the NICU. That’s thousands of $ along with a ton of probable defects they’ll have for the rest of their lives. I’ve known two: one is partially blind, and one has severe breathing problems. Just pointing out that yessss ^ women should have more options but that’s not the way to go.

If a fetus with no developed mind has more rights than an adult woman then a dog, who is much more intelligent than a human fetus, should have equal rights to a human. /s Obviously no because dogs are not as sapient as adult humans. But they should still have more rights. Spain has declared animals "sentient beings" in their laws so they are no longer considered mere property.

    The thing is you can't see the difference between an animal foetus and a human at that age, and although I do think animals should have more rights to their own lives and freedoms, it's a clever way to prove that if you can't see the difference between animals and humans, then maybe you should actually start to think a bit more about the things you don't know, and maybe start learning something!     I find the argument “a fetus is not a person“ to be completely stupid. As if that fetus won't inevitably grow into one. The issue here is a completely different one. It's about women's rights and nothing else.

    The Federalist Society has tirelessly worked to stack the court with Catholics. 2/3 of our Supreme Court are comprised of Catholic justices and only 20% of the population are Catholic. The Supreme Court isn't working for the people. They are working for their political agenda. In my opinion, they have lost all relevancy.

    Everything she said is true. It's no coincidence that the states most critical of welfare and perceived handouts, who work endlessly to cut medicaid, education, and any kind of funding to women and girls who may have an unplanned pregnancy, are also the biggest pro-life states.     Loving v Virginia (interracial marriage) was decided only 6YEARS BEFORE Roe v Wade. They DO NOT CARE about how long something has been decided! If they can decide to get rid of Roe v Wade, anything is fair game.     In Ohio (where else) the Republican-controlled legislature is talking about banning all form of birth control that prevent a fertilised egg from implanting in the uterus. This ban would include some birth control pills and IUDs. We still don't have a realistic view of how low the GOP is willing to go.

I read the article on Google news. He tried to say he meant that it should be up to individual states, but whatever he meant, he already spoke against interracial marriage. He called the incident "a singular and egregious breach" of trust. In a statement on Tuesday, Roberts commented: "This was a singular and egregious breach of that trust that is an affront to the Court and the community of public servants who work here.     Of course it's worse by far for women, but it's also bad for the men who will lose jobs, the men who are arrested for continuing to do their job, the men who have to support an unwanted child financially, the ones who have to mourn the death of their wife/girlfriend/sister because she died from a pregnancy gone dangerously wrong or a backstreet unsafe abortion.

    The loss of the right to safe, legal abortion will be a disaster for the economy. More unwanted pregnancies mean fewer women able to work (regardless of whether they want to or not), so a heavier burden on the short-staffed employees who are there. It means no second income coming in to pay for the ever-expanding family. It means higher medical bills and, because abortion bans fall most heavily on poor women of color, those costs will fall on people who are least likely to have health insurance. It means fewer women going to college and being stuck in the "pink ghetto" jobs that don"t pay a living wage. It means more women who can't afford to move out from an abusive partner...Oh, wait, I get it. That's what they WANT to happen!

    What the F**k is Wrong with humanity ? I wasn't taught to identify any factors related to menstruation. Just that I bleed once a month and can become pregnant. Here take a pill.     Born and raised in the US. In my youth, I had the idea that we would progress as a nation, albeit with stops and starts, and that it would take effort and time, but I believed it could be done. I didn't love my country, but I loved what I THOUGHT it could become. And today I'm sitting here, enraged, at women's rights being set back 50 years.     I think this is something that is not mentioned often enough when abortions come up: pregnancy, even the most normal one, is a serious health risk for women. In a modern society it's a lot less of a risk, but it is one still. Your life can change, ranging from getting hemorrhoids for life to simply passing away from an unforseen massive bleeding while delivering, and a lot in between these two. Those who actively want a child can also actively accept these risks. But why would we force even the slightest risk of death to someone in the name of saving another life? That's not an acceptable trade. Imagine being forced to give blood while you have a condition that gives you a 2 percent chance of bleeding out and nobody can help you, with the argument that some strager will die otherwise. You can't choose not to do it.

    You do realize that removing access to abortion, or making it more difficult to obtain (read, Dr discretion as seen in the refusal to sterilize when requested), all but ensures a spike in preventable deaths in the exact medical scenarios listed in the post? No one is using abortion as a form of birth control. Where do you get this information? No one *wants* to go through the agony of abortion for any reason you might like to split hairs about. This whole notion of abortion being used as "birth control" comes from the Satanic Panic days of the 70's and 80's, which vilified any form of female autonomy, reducing women to the analogy of Eve and her apple being the whole reason why menstrual cycles exist. If I rolled my eyes any further, you'd hear the scraping.

    One of the first Laws that Nelson Mandela rescinded when he was President of South Africa was the ban on abortion. This from a man who was in prison for 27 years. I do not live in an easy country - murder, assault, rape, rioting, etc - that law is still in power. Young girls as young age as, 12/13, can be given an abortion without parental permission, as they fear reprisal from the toxic masculinity and feminine, too sometimes. I am disgusted by THE SUPREME COURT OF THE UNITED STATES OF AMERICA FOR THIS POSSIBLE OUTCOME AND FOR THE COUNTRY AS THE MOST EDUCATED, GOD-FEARING ENTITIY ON THIS EARTH.

    My mom had one because she was being strung along by a married man (all charming and suave who would tell her he really loved her most etc), and even though she loved him and believed his lies, she didn't want to bring a kid into the occasion (it was bad enough I was witness to the whole thing) and a close friend of mine had one when we were 17-18 because her mother pressured her. It was devastating. She had named it already and everything. She has a daughter now, but still has a memorial for the one she gave up.

    I wish that were the case but it's much more likely to be the top pic. It will happen subtly. Oppression always does. By the time enough people stand up to fight it it will be too late. And it doesn't help that there are women who are actively pushing us toward that top pic because they think they'll be part of the conservative wives club who are morally superior and therefore exempt. But one of the things I love about Handmaid's Tale is how they show that being part of the conservative group doesn't mean anything because you're still a woman. No matter how much you think 'oh not me I'm Christian/conservative/a 'good' woman'... you're still a woman. You're a house slave. You aren't picking cotton but you're still a slave and men in power will pretend like they respect you until you get 'out of line' and you'll find yourself in a red robe just like the rest of us.

    It's not that we don't know our own mind, it's that we don't know what a man may decide and that is far more important than what a woman could ever decide. I'm in my thirties and even though I have endometriosis on the scale that having a child I could carry to full term is very unlikely and it would be extremely hazardous to me, and doctors have flat out told me that for years, I was also told I couldn't do anything about it because I am young and may one day have a husband that wishes I try.....ya know to die. So yea the possibility of a man wishing I would have a child that could kill me, was far more important than what is safe for me.

    Yes, Biden needs to step up and do the job he was elected for, not still be telling people they need to vote again to make their feelings known. They already did that and that's why Democrats have the White House, the Senate, and the House right now. He needs to do his damned job, and step up to do the right thing. He needs to kill the filibuster, the electoral college needs to be dissolved, ban corporate political donations, remove lifetime judicial appointments, and every living adult U.S citizen needs to have the right to vote, with no exceptions.

    You're blaming Biden for things he has absolutely no authority to do. The Senate would have to kill the filibuster, and they don't have the votes. Dissolving the electoral college and removing lifetime judicial appointments would require constitutional amendments approved by 3/4 of the states. Banning corporate donations would require the SCOTUS to overturn its Citizens United decision. The President is not a dictator and cannot simply issue executive orders that have the strength of laws. That's not how it works.

    The lie told to the American people is that the President and Congress are the only two that matter. The fact is that the SC is the only one that matters because they are the ones who determine the legality and Constitutionality of laws. The SC should, regardless of party with the sitting President, always carry an even 4/4 panel with the odd one out being the choice of the sitting party if the position comes available. This means that, regardless of party, the panel of 4/4 would be kept even no matter what.

    Because issues like these were supposed to be taken care of over 40 years ago with ERA (Equal Rights Amendment). This simply put, says that women are legally equal to men, under the Constitution of the US, which they are currently not. That's correct, under our consititution, men have way more rights than women. This is why they can pass laws like this, because sex isn't an across the board, a protected class. It was apparently finally up for ratification twice in the past 5 years, but the rethugs said it had been too long and to essentially start the whole process, over.

    Nice thought but Manchin and Sinema are what is keeping Biden and the Dems from enacting anything, including codifying reproductive rights. And you are wrong about them not standing up for voting rights- again they tried with the John Lewis Act but the above two knuckleheads won't allow it and most everything on the agenda. There is no mandate and Manchin and Sinema are the problem.

    I had a pregnancy terminated because the heart valves were missing on the fetus. It wasn't going to live. I had the nursery all done up and was looking forward to finding out the sex so I could start buying clothes. I was devastated. If I would've carried the baby to term there's a possibility that it could've caused sepsis and I would die. If it didn't I would be giving birth to a dead baby. Now Brett the beer man and Gorsuch seem to think their opinions are more important than women like me and our existence. Fu*k 'em.

    It's possible to be morally against abortions and still not think you have the right to press YOUR personal beliefs on others. I don't agree with those people, but I can respect it. It's only the ones who will never be affected by these laws (until their daughters die because the doctor can't give them an abortion for their ectopic pregnancy, or their sister gets sepsis from a failed miscarriage, at which point they'll argue well *that's* different!!!) who want to impose them on everyone who earn my ire.

    I was always on the scientific and logical side. I don’t think you should in all circumstances (like 7th month and all is going well) be allowed to do it. But other than that: it’s not our body. And logically: you should always save the person with higher chance to survive, which almost always is the mother. Morally: rape, incest is a given to abort, like wtf?

    I am pro-choice, but if Roe V Wade is overturned, liberals get what they deserve for not protecting everyone’s right to choose during Covid-19.     Wait, giving birth costs something? Exactly how much?? In my country it is free. Including the time the baby needed to be airlifted to another country, because she needed a life saving procedure that wasn't available locally. The flight with several doctors, two weeks in another country innthe hospital, returning home... The parents paid about 50 dollars of admin fees!

    Stooop right there! What if they decide to make births cost free? I don't believe this will happen - it's the US after all. But this argument could be turn around and bite you back. This should be about pro-choice and not pro-pay. I'm from Germany, costs for birth are covered by health insurance, we have Maternal leave, tax cuts for children etc. Abortion is illegal and only "allowed" till week 14 or if the health of the mother is threatened or the child not able to life. If a gynecologist tells on her homepage so much as she'll do abortion it counts as Marketing for abortions and she get sued. You DON'T want THIS!

    That's no argument. Biden could add more judges tomorrow to tip the scales and the best that would happen is some breathing space. The Supreme Court serves the people of the United States, not the other way around. The entire U.S government and judicial systems are fatally flawed and need to be torn down and re-built, by the people and for the people, instead of solely serving the billionaire 1%. Corporations are NOT people, and I don't care if your name is Jeff Bezos or Elon Musk, you should still only have one vote, and your money should be taxed FOR the people, not wielded as power OVER them.
