35 Reactions People Posted Online To The Impending US Supreme Court Decision To Overturn Abortion Rights
In 1973, the U.S. Supreme Court issued a landmark decision in which the Court ruled that the Constitution of the United States protects a pregnant woman's liberty to choose to have an abortion without excessive government restriction. But now the Supreme Court wants to turn the U.S. into a dystopian hellscape by overturning abortion rights.
According to the initial draft majority opinion written by Justice Samuel Alito that circulated inside the court, “Roe was egregiously wrong from the start.” The document also stated that “We hold that Roe and Casey must be overruled. It is time to heed the Constitution and return the issue of abortion to the people’s elected representatives.”
The decision, which is expected to go formal in June, will open up the nation’s 31 Republican-controlled states to pass severe or total abortion restrictions. And this did not sit well with people who went into tears watching Elizabeth Warren fuming with anger on Tuesday when she gave her speech.
So they took to the internet to show rage and despair over the American court system that yet again failed its people, especially those at their most vulnerable.
The senator Elizabeth Warren lambasted the Supreme Court after the draft abortion opinion leak, reflecting the fuming anger people are feeling right now
'I am angry, upset and determined,' Massachusetts Democratic senator Elizabeth Warren said in her powerful speech after joining a protest at the Supreme Court on Tuesday
"This will fall on the poorest women in our country. This will fall on young women who have been abused, who are victims of incest."
Please watch this video. @ewarren is channeling the rage we are all feeling right now. Thank you, @SenWarren.pic.twitter.com/uIlPXeZGzL— Eliza Orlins (@elizaorlins) May 3, 2022
Many people agreed with Warren as they felt rage and despair over the Supreme Court mercilessly failing women and turning the country into a dystopian hellscape

Because these aren't "pro-lifers", they are pro-religion and pro-control. They don't give two shits what happens to the baby after it's born, and certainly not the mother during pregnancy, nor the nearly two decades afterward. I am livid.
I was going to say something similar to this. They don't give a flying rat's a*s about those babies. They give no aid to the women carrying them, they won't buy formula, diapers or clothes for those babies, they won't adopt those babies when they are abandoned, they won't do anything for the kids who end up in foster care, being handed over from "family" to "family" again and again. They won't contribute to education or helping them get a good start in their adult life. Pro-lifers are the scum of the earth
Load More Replies...George Carlin put it best --- “They’re not pro-life. You know what they are? They’re anti-woman. Simple as it gets, anti-woman. They don’t like them. They don’t like women. They believe a woman’s primary role is to function as a brood mare for the state.”
Dear Nathan David It is a baby only after it is born. So nobody is murdering babies. As long as it is in the mother's womb it is a foetus. To explain things to simpletons like you, medical professionals use the term "baby" loosely. If you want to know the difference between embryo, foetus & a baby there are plenty of articles available with a simple search.
Load More Replies...I appreciate the intention of this, but please can we get away from "if you don't want the baby just give it up for adoption". A pregnancy lasts 9 months. During which you entire body changes, it's exhausting and sometimes risky. It is also life-changing to grow and bear a baby. Don't act like this is a perfectly good solution. If I don't want a baby, I don't want to be forced to breed and bear one.
Yes but you are missing the point. OP is not saying that the alrernative to abortion is adoption. Op is saying that those so called "pro lifers" do not care at all for the women and the fetuses. If they did they would do the things that op mention.
Load More Replies...Anyone see the video where the guy is asking pro-lifers how many children they have adopted? Guess what? They hadn't adopted any. Big surprise.
It's not about "saving" babies. It's about controlling women. Today's Republican party is a White Christian Nationalist group, whose entire purpose is to impose their racist and religious policies on all of us. They cannot be successful. I shudder to think about where all this is heading.
They're not pro-life, they're just anti-sex. In their mind the baby is the correct punishment for their sins.
If they can't get sex, no one else is allowed to have any.
Load More Replies...I am pro-life. THEY are anti-woman. Even if they *are* women. I am pro-life b/c I think humans should be allowed to live, safely, even prosperously. THEY think that pregnancy is more sacred than a person's life.
Sure, you get raped and be forced to carry to term and then have baby taken and adopted out. As if the first trauma isn't enough add 2 more. And humans are sure not endangered.....you want to adopt these hundreds of thousands of wanted kids?? Go on, refugee camps are full of them.
No woman should be forced to bear a child she doesn’t want. She is not a handmaid so another family can have a child.
On May 2nd, POLITICO obtained a leaked initial draft majority opinion written by Justice Samuel Alito that sent shockwaves around the country. The document revealed that the Supreme Court has voted to strike down the landmark Roe v. Wade decision, which granted a pregnant woman's liberty to choose to have an abortion without excessive government restriction since 1973.
I hate the name pro life. They're not pro life. They're just pro pregnancy. Once you're out of the womb, then you're s**t out of luck, kid.
Funny how Nathan David states that you Mama Penguin don't have a "strong case", while he doesn't have one at all? All he keeps repeating that he is "anti baby murder" which tells us nothing. Anti baby murder how? What does that entail? What alternatives are there? He's got nothing, plain and simple.
Load More Replies...If men got pregnant, there'd be drive thru abortion clinics, kits sold in pharmacies, it'd be as easy as buying a cup of coffee
And I'm pro-Maria who found out that she was pregnant by suffering from hyperemisis gravidarum for the third time and now had to choose between burdening her existing kids and spouse with that pregnancy again while risking her own life again with a good risk of also removing all remaining mobility in her body and suffering PTSD and post-partum depression again or terminate. That is a legitimate, medical reason to terminate. Even if someone had paid my pregnancy bills, it still would have killed the family, ripped me and my spouse apart toward a divorce and then we'd have an extra life in the mix.
And I'm pro-Aaliyah, who was over the moon to find out she's pregnant and then had doctors tell her the baby has chromosome abnormalities and who has no means to pay for the extensive care the child will need and in her country "good care homes that are free/cheap" for such children do not exist. I am pro-Halina, who found out her baby has a condition that causes them a tremendous amount of pain, 24/7, from the day they will be born till the day they pass away at a very young age
Load More Replies...I am pro Laura. She has a extremly risk of complications, ectopic pregnancy and death if she gets pregnant. But at the same time she is denied over and over sterilisation by doctors. She might die horribly if she gets pregnant and the fetus will not come to term. But "pro lifers" dont care.
If pro-lifers are so pro-life then life may as well begin with the sperm. In which case every time a man ejaculates anywhere but inside a woman's vagina he is denying a baby's right to be born. Imagine a powerful group of women who know very little about male anatomy deciding that men can't ever masturbate because it's "baby murder". That's how ridiculous the pro-life argument is.
This, ten million times, this. I am pro-life, b/c I am pro-the-life-of-the-person-whose-body-that-is. Her body, her choice. Why? Simple. A man can walk away. She can't. And be Pro-Jane, who found she was having twins right after her husband was diagnosed with cancer. Be Pro-Jane, who discovered her pregnancy was compromised by uterine scarring from an STD she didn't know her husband gave her. Be Pro-Jane, who will get careless one night, and see every hope evaporate b/c she's 19, for heaven's sake, she's in the military, what will happen to her career... Be Pro-John, whose wife is 47, and whose fluke pregnancy is not something they can handle, their kids are already in college... Try being for those people, not for blobs of cells that, when they leave the uterus before a certain point, kinda look like blobs of cells. .... from an MD.
I'll reply to cowardly Nathan here since he isn't allowing any replies on his post. Smashing a kid's skull against the wall is not the same thing as having an abortion but it does address the problem of people having children when they're not ready. His entire problem is viewing it as killing a baby. Regardless of all the medical literature available, these people view a less than 20 week old fetus the exact same way that they view a fully developed child. If the fetus needs a host in order to survive, it is not the same thing as a baby.
Load More Replies...At te same time they tell adult women (in their 20-40s) that they are not mature enough to consent to sterilisation "because they might change their mind".
I asked an OB-GYN about tubal ligation when I was in my early/mid 20s. He told me I wasn't old enough to make that decision, and that he would not do it. I asked if he would have the same answer if I was asking for advice on how to get pregnant. After some hemming & hawing he admitted he would not, but still would not consider the ligation. "What if 'Mr Right' comes along and he wants kids?" Then he's not Mr Right for me, now, is he? (For the record, I'm now 58 & still haven't changed my mind about not wanting children.)
Load More Replies...One of my favorite comments came from a woman who said if a fetus is a baby, why don't men pay child support before birth? In case anyone wonders, there are ways to do a DNA paternity test before the child is born.
I changed my mind after some years about wanting to have a baby someday. But for the love of God, I'm a grown a*s adult, if I had a tubal ligation or something like that, and after that I changed my mind... IT'S FINE! Everyone should have the right to choose something and later in life bear the "consequences" about your own choices.
We also need comprehensive sex education in schools because apparently several million parents aren't doing their jobs. And there needs to be free condom dispensers in EVERY public restroom. And birth control via medication should be free or nearly so too.
This s#*t needs to stop. My mother tried to get her tubes tied at 22 after having two children. The doctor wouldn't do it because she was "too young". She went on to have seven more children and two miscarriages. I mean, I'm the ninth child so lucky I guess but I still wish she'd had control over her own damned body! Oh and this was in 1950.
I do not understand america at all... single mothers on welfare are demonised by the state... and then the state thinks... you know what we can do... we can ban abortions and then maybe we can have more of the people we keep demonising.
I had a ligation done. Had to fight for that, having 2 kids already. My excuse was it’s reversible. Then I was a passenger in a motorcycle accident. Impact trauma ‘caused my uterus to basically fold in on itself (since it wasn’t attached to the ovaries). It’s no longer reversible. Just remove it. It causes more problems for my health now. But my useless uterus still belongs to everyone other then me. Fought for the ligation and unless I’m bleeding to death, I’m still in ‘viable birthing years’. Even though it’a so far past reversible. Pathetic.
POLITICO notes that no draft decision in the modern history of the court has been disclosed publicly while a case was still pending. Moreover, the document, labeled as a first draft of the majority opinion, includes a notation that it was circulated among the justices on Feb. 10.
Can't use that last word. That's a scary, yucky word and they'd rather women didn't have them (by virtue of being pregnant all the f-ing time) so they don't have to think about normal bodily functions and normal bodily autonomy. I'm very angry right now.
i find it very strange that some people find it embarrassing to talk about periods or to buy feminine hygiene products when they have no problem talk about taking a c**p and buy toilet paper obviously 2 different things but both natural bodily functions
Load More Replies...For me if women can be forced to give their bodies to a fetus for 9 months then men should be able to be forced to donate part of their liver to a complete stranger to save their life. Nobody in their sane mind would pass a law that would force men to donate organs unwillingly to random strangers, even if the stranger would die. But suddenly when its "women only" organs it is ok to do so.
Well, there are many things courts tell men and women they can/cannot do but this is not supposed to be one of them. Let her decide for herself.
Right now, if a woman doesn’t have a heartbeat and is declared dead, you STILL can’t dictate what happens with her body. Unless she gave permission while she was alive, you can not harvest her organs for donations. Not even if that organ would save the life of her living child who desperately needs one. The “pro-life” crowd affords her corpse more bodily autonomy than they would afford her in life.
Only men with documented proof of a vasectomy will be in the dating pool. All the men who've always gotten the girl will be trying their game in vain, because we now find the chubby red haired Subway guy sexier since he got his shiny new vasectomy.
How is it 'her body' when the developing fetus has its own unique DNA, limbs, organs, (possibly) different blood type, etc? It's clearly its own self.
A woman's decisions about her own body don't affect the general public at large, whilst a deadly communicable disease does affect others. I'm hoping I didn't really have to tell you that, but...And on the subject of Constitutional rights, the first thing you learn in Constitutional Law class in law school is that your rights end where they begin to encroach on the rights of another. See, here it is. You can't force me to have a vaccine, bit you can force me to have a baby? Logic error, eh?
Load More Replies...It's also worth noting and repeating endlessly that banning abortions will not stop women from getting abortions. It will stop a lot of women from getting safe abortions. It won't stop rich women from getting safe abortions. If you're pro-life, you should care about the lives of the mothers as much as you do for her fetus. Instead of talking about ending access to safe abortions, we should be talking about social programs to help people get ahead in life and have better solutions for people who find themselves in bad situations. A society where women do not have control over when they want to become mothers is not going to be a good society. We might as well turn our back on everything we've accomplished.
It’s not a person though, and that matters especially because this is also a human discussion. Someone who refuses to donate blood to their living, breathing child is not someone I want to be in the same room as. I don’t think they should face legal punishment but I would wish them nothing but absolute misery in life. A woman who gets an abortion is not hurting anyone and should not be put in that category.
How about: Abortion is legal till week 22/24. From this point on the chance for the fetus to survive outside the Uterus is over 50 % (if in intense medical care). So instead of an abortion women with unwanted pregnancies get a cost free C-section, the child automatically has to be adopted by the pro-lifers or next church that pays for all medical costs of mother and child. The mother will stay anonymous at all times. I'm sure church and pro-lifers back out?
I’m not entirely sure if you’re being sarcastic, but I still wanted to reply. I agree- if pro-lifers really wanted to make a difference, they would offer adequate medical care, costs covered, instead of shouting at the poor women who feel abortion is their only option that they’ll burn in hell. However at 22 weeks, although the baby’s viable, it would be ridiculous to require a c-section because at that point baby would require months in the NICU. That’s thousands of $ along with a ton of probable defects they’ll have for the rest of their lives. I’ve known two: one is partially blind, and one has severe breathing problems. Just pointing out that yessss ^ women should have more options but that’s not the way to go.

Definitely. If a fetus with no developed mind has more rights than an adult woman then a dog, who is much more intelligent than a human fetus, should have equal rights to a human. /s Obviously no because dogs are not as sapient as adult humans. But they should still have more rights. Spain has declared animals "sentient beings" in their laws so they are no longer considered mere property.

@Chris Zaydel. Really? You can tell by looking at a picture? WOW!
Load More Replies...The thing is you can't see the difference between an animal foetus and a human at that age, and although I do think animals should have more rights to their own lives and freedoms, it's a clever way to prove that if you can't see the difference between animals and humans, then maybe you should actually start to think a bit more about the things you don't know, and maybe start learning something! Women's bodies - women's choices!!! There shouldn't even be a debate!!
I find the argument “a fetus is not a person“ to be completely stupid. As if that fetus won't inevitably grow into one. The issue here is a completely different one. It's about women's rights and nothing else.
And it's not about mothers either. They could not give less of a f**k about the actual human being who owns the womb.
Totally agree. Look forward to the supreme Court interference with male bodies and enforcement of child care payment. Typical Republican b******t. "We are anti government except for the single part of your life that ought be free from government" terrible people
The Federalist Society has tirelessly worked to stack the court with Catholics. 2/3 of our Supreme Court are comprised of Catholic justices and only 20% of the population are Catholic. The Supreme Court isn't working for the people. They are working for their political agenda. In my opinion, they have lost all relevancy.

It's no coincidence that the states most critical of welfare and perceived handouts, who work endlessly to cut medicaid, education, and any kind of funding to women and girls who may have an unplanned pregnancy, are also the biggest pro-life states. If it were about caring for human lives death penalty would have been abolished in those “caring” states
While Americans digested the potential horrifying consequences of the Supreme Court’s draft opinion overturning Roe v. Wade with rage and despair, many people met the news through an emotional and deeply personal lens. Women who had had abortions or given children up for adoption took it to social media to share what challenges they would have faced if the court struck down the Roe v. Wade decision to grant abortion rights.
This is the first domino in the disgusting conservative agenda. They'd love nothing more than to bring back the scenario of keeping women in the homes -pregnant, in the kitchen, no voice - religious rule over all, and by god, every gay back into the dark closet! They have become the most extreme political group in this country. The overturning of Roe V. Wade will fuel their fear and hate filled agenda.
Every woman who thinks this is about saving babies is already a lost cause to brain washing and thousands of years of patriarchy.

Loving v Virginia (interracial marriage) was decided only 6YEARS BEFORE Roe v Wade. They DO NOT CARE about how long something has been decided! If they can decide to get rid of Roe v Wade, anything is fair game. As Black woman, married to a white man, with queer children (one being born female), my family has a LOT to lose if they keep coming for our rights like this. I 😡AM😡 FURIOUS!!😡😡😡
In Ohio (where else) the Republican-controlled legislature is talking about banning all form of birth control that prevent a fertilised egg from implanting in the uterus. This ban would include some birth control pills and IUDs. We still don't have a realistic view of how low the GOP is willing to go.
Already a senator in a Midwestern state, Illinois I think, I can't remember, sorry, said within the last two weeks that the federal law against interracial marriage was a mistake. I read the article on Google news. He tried to say he meant that it should be up to individual states, but whatever he meant, he already spoke against interracial marriage. What's next, lynching people who do marry interracially?
Funny enough, none of the religious, "pro-life" gas bags have bothered to comment on THIS post. Cowards.
That's usually how the trolls work. Can't fault this logic right here! Absolutely cowards.

A baby always has a father. Remember that when the right to an abortion is retracted.
Don't know if this is whole US or just my state(North Carolina) but it is extremely easy(legally I mean not emotionally) for an unmarried father to give up their rights. I had to sign several documents stating that my daughter was mine and I was taking responsibilty for her.

The loss of the right to safe, legal abortion will be a disaster for the economy. More unwanted pregnancies mean fewer women able to work (regardless of whether they want to or not), so a heavier burden on the short-staffed employees who are there. It means no second income coming in to pay for the ever-expanding family. It means higher medical bills and, because abortion bans fall most heavily on poor women of color, those costs will fall on people who are least likely to have health insurance. It means fewer women going to college and being stuck in the "pink ghetto" jobs that don"t pay a living wage. It means more women who can't afford to move out from an abusive partner...Oh, wait, I get it. That's what they WANT to happen!

Born and raised in the US. In my youth, I had the idea that we would progress as a nation, albeit with stops and starts, and that it would take effort and time, but I believed it could be done. I didn't love my country, but I loved what I THOUGHT it could become. And today I'm sitting here, enraged, at women's rights being set back 50 years. This is a country I no longer recognize, nor believe in.

A singular and .egregious violation of trust, over a piece of paper, but not the same value placed women in the whole? It’s not just men who should and apparently can trust the justices. It’s women too. Not to mention, men don’t bare the burden of all the changes to bodies, and most of whom are a better argument for pro choice by their existence.
I currently have 25 active fibroids in my uterus. That doesn't include the already calcified ones. If I were to somehow get pregnant either myself or the embryo would be in danger.

Load More Replies...I think this is something that is not mentioned often enough when abortions come up: pregnancy, even the most normal one, is a serious health risk for women. In a modern society it's a lot less of a risk, but it is one still. Your life can change, ranging from getting hemorrhoids for life to simply passing away from an unforseen massive bleeding while delivering, and a lot in between these two. Those who actively want a child can also actively accept these risks. But why would we force even the slightest risk of death to someone in the name of saving another life? That's not an acceptable trade. Imagine being forced to give blood while you have a condition that gives you a 2 percent chance of bleeding out and nobody can help you, with the argument that some strager will die otherwise. You can't choose not to do it.
Sadly the fundies seem to think this a small price to pay. But I will be willing to bet if one of their relatives were in this position a quick flight to an abortion friendly country would be arranged. There are several examples of politicians changing position on certain items one it impacted them.Yet they still get elected because some places will vote for a pile of dog c**p if it is the right party.
You do realize that removing access to abortion, or making it more difficult to obtain (read, Dr discretion as seen in the refusal to sterilize when requested), all but ensures a spike in preventable deaths in the exact medical scenarios listed in the post? No one is using abortion as a form of birth control. Where do you get this information? No one *wants* to go through the agony of abortion for any reason you might like to split hairs about. This whole notion of abortion being used as "birth control" comes from the Satanic Panic days of the 70's and 80's, which vilified any form of female autonomy, reducing women to the analogy of Eve and her apple being the whole reason why menstrual cycles exist. If I rolled my eyes any further, you'd hear the scraping.

Young girls as young age as, 12/13, can be given an abortion without parental permission, as they fear reprisal from the toxic masculinity and feminine, too sometimes. I am disgusted by THE SUPREME COURT OF THE UNITED STATES OF AMERICA FOR THIS POSSIBLE OUTCOME AND FOR THE COUNTRY AS THE MOST EDUCATED, GOD-FEARING ENTITIY ON THIS EARTH.
I only know 2 women who had an abortion. One because she was raped and the other because she doesn't want to be a mum. i live in a rich country, where sex ed is taught serval times throughout your school life. in a country where you get Plan B very very simple (in a drug store after a quick talk) the whole system in teh US is f*cked
Or they are just private people. Two women have told me about their abortions, both are relatives, and in both cases I’m one of the only people who knows even within the family.
I’m absolutely sure some of the people you go to school with have had an abortion and are just good at keeping it secret.
Load More Replies...My mom had one because she was being strung along by a married man (all charming and suave who would tell her he really loved her most etc), and even though she loved him and believed his lies, she didn't want to bring a kid into the occasion (it was bad enough I was witness to the whole thing) and a close friend of mine had one when we were 17-18 because her mother pressured her. It was devastating. She had named it already and everything. She has a daughter now, but still has a memorial for the one she gave up.
On Tuesday, following POLITICO’s report, President Joe Biden called a woman's right to have an abortion "fundamental.” He urged Congress to pass legislation codifying Roe, which was decided in 1973. Biden stated: “Roe has been the law of the land for almost fifty years, and basic fairness and the stability of our law demand that it not be overturned.”
32% of our country are making decisions for all of us, it must stop. And men should NEVER have a vote in anything regarding women's bodies.
No they won't. They'll get away with this because Americans are not smart. We have a major election every two years, and the Democrats skip every other one. Also, the Democrats are fractured and they're infighting over who's more progressive or too progressive or overly moderate or whatever, and we can't seem to learn from the Republicans and stand united. Vote your conscience in the primary election and then swallow your stupid pride and support your party's candidate in the major election. That's how we take this country back. Joe Biden is not a great or even very good President, but no what else he is not? He's not Donald trump or Ron Desantis or any of the other repugnant politicians out there that want his job. He may not be getting us all the things we want as progressives, but he's not looking to destroy this country. So Democrats need to get the f**k over themselves or else we will lose it all.
This day cannot come soon enough. If they get away with this, how many more civil rights are they going to take away? Stand for your rights ladies, us sensible men stand with you.
I wish that were the case but it's much more likely to be the top pic. It will happen subtly. Oppression always does. By the time enough people stand up to fight it it will be too late. And it doesn't help that there are women who are actively pushing us toward that top pic because they think they'll be part of the conservative wives club who are morally superior and therefore exempt. But one of the things I love about Handmaid's Tale is how they show that being part of the conservative group doesn't mean anything because you're still a woman. No matter how much you think 'oh not me I'm Christian/conservative/a 'good' woman'... you're still a woman. You're a house slave. You aren't picking cotton but you're still a slave and men in power will pretend like they respect you until you get 'out of line' and you'll find yourself in a red robe just like the rest of us.
Thats probably next.. giving the men the right to refuse payments if they dont want the baby ...
They already pretty much don't have to now...I literally know a bunch of men that just "decided" not to pay and nothing really happened to them.

Ohh - yeha. If a father was court ordered to pay half the costs of medical care - that would change a few minds.

Unless it takes a couple years to track you down. Then they can take it all!
It’s scary that some states will not let you abort if you are a victim of rape/incest. What are they expecting someone in that position to do? Suck it up, give birth and then deal with it on their own?
Pretty much. They only cate for fetuses since they are a good prop and don't ask any difficult questions.

The patriarchy seems women too incompetent to know her own mind, yet seem her mature enough to raise a human. Make it make sense.
It's not that we don't know our own mind, it's that we don't know what a man may decide and that is far more important than what a woman could ever decide. I'm in my thirties and even though I have endometriosis on the scale that having a child I could carry to full term is very unlikely and it would be extremely hazardous to me, and doctors have flat out told me that for years, I was also told I couldn't do anything about it because I am young and may one day have a husband that wishes I try.....ya know to die. So yea the possibility of a man wishing I would have a child that could kill me, was far more important than what is safe for me.

True. You are the party of a LIMITING government. You limit every person's choices. If you are going to regulate medical choices of ANY kind will you then regulate medical choices of EVERY kind? Taking someone off life support? Withholding medical treatment for terminally ill patients? Why does this stop with abortion? Where does this stop? It never should start. Stay out of medicine and health care, any of it, all of it, all the time. Mind your own business.

The fact that these women *need* escorts is outrageous. The whole Roe V. Wade situation is a snapshot of the larger battle of women who have had to constantly fight for simple, basic rights. We should be more advanced than this!

Load More Replies...Nope - the combined "f**k off", "Not your concern", and "mind your own business" segments should make up 99% of this graph - with the remaining 1% concerning someone else being the doctor having to help make the decision (for medical reasons where the woman wouldn't realise she'd die without it - I had never heard of a septic uterus, for example, so wouldn't be in a position to "choose" abortion unless the doctor advises that were the case)

Load More Replies...Yes, Biden needs to step up and do the job he was elected for, not still be telling people they need to vote again to make their feelings known. They already did that and that's why Democrats have the White House, the Senate, and the House right now. He needs to do his damned job, and step up to do the right thing. He needs to kill the filibuster, the electoral college needs to be dissolved, ban corporate political donations, remove lifetime judicial appointments, and every living adult U.S citizen needs to have the right to vote, with no exceptions.
You're blaming Biden for things he has absolutely no authority to do. The Senate would have to kill the filibuster, and they don't have the votes. Dissolving the electoral college and removing lifetime judicial appointments would require constitutional amendments approved by 3/4 of the states. Banning corporate donations would require the SCOTUS to overturn its Citizens United decision. The President is not a dictator and cannot simply issue executive orders that have the strength of laws. That's not how it works.
Load More Replies...And how is Biden supposed to do anything with his delightful DINO colleagues Manchin and Sinema blocking ALL of the things Dems PROMISED TO ACCOMPLISH? Magic? Thoughts and prayers? Luck, perhaps?
Joe Manchin needs to go get f****d and get out of the Senate so we can make some progress. Joe Biden doesn't matter if he has no Congress backing him up. It's Biden's fault that Manchin and Sinema are assholes. What's he supposed to do?
The lie told to the American people is that the President and Congress are the only two that matter. The fact is that the SC is the only one that matters because they are the ones who determine the legality and Constitutionality of laws. The SC should, regardless of party with the sitting President, always carry an even 4/4 panel with the odd one out being the choice of the sitting party if the position comes available. This means that, regardless of party, the panel of 4/4 would be kept even no matter what.
Forgive the ignorance here but why wasn’t it done during Clinton’s or Obama’s presidencies?
Because issues like these were supposed to be taken care of over 40 years ago with ERA (Equal Rights Amendment). This simply put, says that women are legally equal to men, under the Constitution of the US, which they are currently not. That's correct, under our consititution, men have way more rights than women. This is why they can pass laws like this, because sex isn't an across the board, a protected class. It was apparently finally up for ratification twice in the past 5 years, but the rethugs said it had been too long and to essentially start the whole process, over.
Load More Replies...No, AOC, it's well PAST time you Dems stood up and actually did the things you were elected to do. I've never seen a more radicalized, unhinged conservative party, nor a more passive, weak liberal party. I voted for liberals because I thought you would stand up for voting rights - you did not. I voted liberal because I thought you would protect and promote women's rights - you have not. I voted liberal to protect and support LGBTQ rights - and you are failing at that too (looking at you, Florida). I challenge our Democratic representatives to actually REPRESENT the people who voted you in. Get to WORK.
Nice thought but Manchin and Sinema are what is keeping Biden and the Dems from enacting anything, including codifying reproductive rights. And you are wrong about them not standing up for voting rights- again they tried with the John Lewis Act but the above two knuckleheads won't allow it and most everything on the agenda. There is no mandate and Manchin and Sinema are the problem.

Whether or not Sandy down the street gets an abortion has zero impact on my life, but it has a massive impact on Sandy's life, so Sandy should be the only person that gets to decide what to do.
It's possible to be morally against abortions and still not think you have the right to press YOUR personal beliefs on others. I don't agree with those people, but I can respect it. It's only the ones who will never be affected by these laws (until their daughters die because the doctor can't give them an abortion for their ectopic pregnancy, or their sister gets sepsis from a failed miscarriage, at which point they'll argue well *that's* different!!!) who want to impose them on everyone who earn my ire.

That's no argument. Biden could add more judges tomorrow to tip the scales and the best that would happen is some breathing space. The Supreme Court serves the people of the United States, not the other way around. The entire U.S government and judicial systems are fatally flawed and need to be torn down and re-built, by the people and for the people, instead of solely serving the billionaire 1%.
