My favorite thing to do on a cold evening (when I have the house to myself and no orders to work on) is to curl up in my very own pizza blanket, grab a slice, and find a movie or new series on Netflix. It’s relaxing, comfy, and a great stress reliever for me.

I created the pizza by the slice blanket design for my son for his birthday a few years ago. I shared a photo of it in the crochet groups I’m a part of and everyone went crazy wanting the pattern. I wrote it up for the big kids size and only had one topping but people wanted it right away. Over the past year my testers and I have revised the pattern 100 times to include sizes newborn photo prop thru 3X plus size and includes every topping you can order on a pizza! This is my most popular pattern on both Etsy and Ravelry. It is also my most popular finished item in my Etsy shop and Fb marketplace.

I am the original creator of the pizza blanket design and have thoroughly tested every single size and topping as well as photographed every step it takes to make the blanket what it is. My testers and I have even researched and tried different yarn brands to match up colorways and figure out the yardage needed to create this fun design using crocheters preferred brands! I haven’t found this much attention to detail, yarns, sizes, or photography in any of my copycats although I am glad they were able to design their own copy to fit their needs.

I LOVE, LOVE, LOVE making these bulky, warm blankets…..

(Almost as much as I love eating pizza)

To make one single adult size peperoni blanket takes A HUGE AMOUNT of yarn and roughly 8-9 hours!! If I am adding other toppings, that can often add an additional hour or 2! I have made so many over the last year I can probably do it in my sleep now. I love the challenges that custom requests from customers can bring to this fun blanket style. I’ve added weird toppings, turned them into desert pizza slices, and personalized several of them.

I know how much time each portion takes me to make and often when I get several orders in at once I create my own production line. I’ll spend 1 or 2 days creating the cheese and crust panels (2-3 hours each panel). Then the next day I’ll make the toppings and attach them to the cheese panels. Then I will spend 1 or 2 days attaching the panels together, weaving in ends, and adding on the final touches that makes each one special. The blankets then go through a detergent free cold wash and then are tumble dried on low heat to make sure the stitches are locked in. I then inspect, measure, and photograph each blanket with its order form and prepare for packaging. I then print the shipping labels, package each 5 lb blanket in its box, affix the label, and get them off to the post office.

I have been asked many times how can I make the same thing over and over again. My response is simple. I am recreating something with love that will bring joy to others. I look at my business as way more than a job to provide for my family. My business is my passion and my passion in life is to bring a smile to others.
