No doubt you have seen an abundance of artists sharing their own renditions of Disney characters. And still, we have managed to find another gem, perhaps even the fairest of them all.

American artist Heather Theurer creates Disney-inspired oil paintings that some viewers have likened to a Renaissance art style, however, the artist herself says the style is more akin to the Pre-Raphaelites of the late 19th century.

Theurer says that her aim is not to re-create what has already been done by other artists or Disney itself - but rather to transcend the ordinary and go beyond and down the rabbit hole, in search of new meaning.

When creating her beautiful paintings, Theurer strived to go past mere physical resemblances of the cartoon characters, focusing instead on capturing and conveying their struggles, hope, and pride - attributes that wouldn't be obvious to the naked eye.

All that attention to detail did not go to waste, scroll down below to see for yourself!

Her face is too Zhang Ziyi/ kawaii-girly for me - the disney original was more fearless and tomboyishly-pretty (as the heroïne should be) . Nice colour depth and shadow-work tho **

I like this contrast between her elegant clothes and this cooking pot - excellent reference to the film. Also, these water lilies in the background are beautiful.

Love it - clearly based off the original Hans Christian Andersen mermaid.

Again, this picture looks more unsettling compared to the Disney version. This look on Peter Pan's face is kinda creepy - he looks more mature than he should and his eyes are just hungry. It is a look of a boy (man?) who can cause problems. Despite it - or because of it - this illustration with its lights and shadows, with toys on the floor and focused Wendy's expression is awesome.

There is somewhat an eternal cute and same-looking androgynous features in your character's faces. Some are really fitting and some look trapped, lost and abused in the frame. Surreal and almost hentai-ish dark! (Just as disney animation can be) You should befriend old G. Helnwein :D and before you become too dark and suicidal: get some totoro-ghibli-cleanse :)
