“If He Wanted To, He Would”: Dad Drives 5 Hours To Surprise His Little Girl

He can fix anything, help with math homework, protect from monsters under the bed and is the strongest and tallest man on Earth. Any guesses? That’s right, that’s a dad. Having a proactive dad who’s in the front row cheering for their kid – be it at a kindergarten race or seeing their “little one” getting a PhD diploma – is an incredible gift. This little girl can confirm – her dad drove over 5 hours just to surprise her by taking her to a daddy-daughter dance.

Some people may hate TikTok, others may love it, but no one can deny that this app never fails to make us cry over strangers. 1.3M people ugly cried over this adorable clip of a dad surprising his young daughter, proving that good dads would do anything for their little ones.

In a viral clip, the nervous dad Taylor is seen coming over to the door with beautiful flowers, ready for a big night of fun and dancing. After a few moments, a little girl opened the door – her genuine surprise and delight would melt anyone’s heart! Without hesitation, she leapt into her father’s arms and started crying – the surprise definitely worked!

Her little brother is seen jumping up and down in the background, clearly excited for his sister. “My son and his wife drove 5 hours to make sure he took his daughter to the dance! If he wanted to he would! I’m so proud,” read the caption. The whole video is just full of good vibes – so were the comments!

“She don’t even care about the flowers. She just needs her Dad,” wrote one commenter. “Dads are so important!” commented another. “This has healed something in me” and similar words flooded the comment section.

Dads are important and always have been. Thankfully, modern dads are very involved in their kids’ lives, even if they have separated from their mom. Co-parenting is on the rise, as more and more people find healthy ways to raise their kids in separation. The viral video of a dad showing up for his daughter was filmed by her stepmom, who was equally as excited for the little girl.

No more jokes about dads going out for milk and never returning – the majority of fathers choose to be actively involved in their little ones’ lives, providing comfort and care and helping to shape them into healthy adults.

Although everyone says that mom is the most important person in anyone’s life, dad is also vital and cannot be replaced by others. Here are some key points:

  • Involved fathers aid in children’s emotional development. They provide feeling of security – both physical and emotional which helps them to grow up into confident adults;
  • Dads set the bar for relationships. How a dad treats his offspring and his family will shape the future of a little one. If the child sees how affectionate, caring and loving their dad is, they will try to recreate that in the future;
  • Speaking of the future, dads help children’s cognitive development. It might be tedious spending 3 hours over one math problem, but having a dad who cares enough to help increases the likelihood of getting an A by staggering 43%;
  • Hanging out with dads also mean loads of fun and smiles and those smiles must be the reason behind the fact that children with caring fathers are more mentally resilient.

It is also important to notice that fathers have a different impact on boys and girls. Boys tend to model themselves after their father’s character and imitate their behavior. So if a little boy sees that his dad treats his mom kindly and isn’t afraid to do chores around the house because its “unmanly”, he will most likely grow up to be a great husband and father himself. Alternatively, if a young boy doesn’t receive a good example from his, he will look to other male figures for how to behave and might end up picking some unsavory behaviors.

While sons tend to imitate their father’s behavior, daughters model their relationships based on dad’s character. Sadly, “daddy issues” jokes are still pretty rampant, but it is a big issue for millions of girls and women. Dads can show their young daughter what a good relationship is and how a man is supposed to treat people all around him. So, dads, if you want your daughter to marry a man worthy of her, you’d better give her loads of hugs and flowers!

It could be a situation like what my friend dealt with as a kid. She only had 4 months of school left, but her parents were offered better jobs in another state. She had two siblings who were not in school, so she stayed behind with her grandparents for the 4 months she had left in school, before she moved to be with her parents and siblings, instead of upending her education so close to the end of the school year.

Wonderful gesture. I just don't like how people post these things, especially when children are involved. Sharing with family is fine.
