Magpie even if you touch the mask it prevents your hands to get in contact with your mucosa in the mouth or nose reducing the risk of infection dramatically. You stated blow "wash your hands" yes you should do that but the main cause of infection is breathing in air droplets from infected people close to you. Also you can't get infected trough skin, the virus can't penetrate it. So you could run around with the virus on the hands for hours as long as you have no open wound and don't touch your face it's no problem, just clean everything you touched to avoid re-contamination.

Bless you, Mathias. There are a lot of people complaining about the social expectation to wear a mask, ignoring their civic duty to do so because it isn't fun. If we can reduce the spread by 80-90%, as the estimate currently stands, we are doing pretty darn well, imho. The inconvenience of wearing a mask should be more than worth it if you can save the life of just one person - babies, the elderly and those with immune deficiency are the most at risk. Don't they deserve your minor discomfort if it means they get to keep their lives? Wouldn't you feel deserving of the same?

There is zero evidence that wearing a mask increases the risk of anything. There is a significant amount of evidence that masks WILL help prevent spread of viruses. As SciFi Timewarp stated: not much = some; some is better than none. And so far the evidence suggests that "some" is 80-90%. So, almost as effective as a condom.

Can actually make the situation worse. As people fiddle with the masks. And get over confident. Wash Your Hands.
