It's not a joke. it's an artist helping people connect with a history they never lived by adding colours to images that can seem so much more distant then they where because of there black and white photography.

Might be hard for the artist to color things far off in the background clearly

:3 hiya! So the artist chose this style to give the colour version more depth. Depth in colour reads differently then it dose in black and white. Naturally your eyes fade colours as they move into the background, and blurs the image slightly. A camera lense dose not nessesserily see the difference if it's taken with a really broard depth of field such as the one above. The intent, as near as I can tell, is to put the viewer in the moment, so the artist has recreated what your eyes would be more likely to see. :3 your own display picture has a pretty good example of a narrow depth of field, your meant to look at your face and immediate surroundings while colours slowly wash out into the distance.

When you see something like that, a wizard did it.

scary obvious... these people, all spent an excruciating amount of time knowing unequivocably, today, they're all going to die together, that's got to be worse than knowing you're about to die in a plane crash. being added to that pile, it's so big, they used bulldozers for logistical efficiency. But not before they took... every shoe, pulled every tooth, shaved every hair, (to fill mattresses etc.) until finally, the human form all but recognizable, more like, mountains of meat, bones and blood... the mountains being, symmetrically stacked with tank-like machines with enormous plows gushing through it all. What a thing to become immune... ie. like that bulldozer driver. i certainly was never the same when i saw it in a school history film as a young child.

Concentratrion camps were camps built by Nazi Germans durin WWII to exterminate people like Slavs, Gypsies or Jews by hard work or starving them to death, because they considered them being less of a person .

A lot of Western countries seems to have forgotten what it was like to be refugees themselves

Thinking doesn't hurt you know. Read some history about what happened with Polish refugees during WWII, what were the proportions of men and women first and then try to comment. It is correct that Polish were refugees as well but you seem to ignore the fact that these were mostly women and children (1 man on every 5-10 women and children not the other way around). Men who could stand their ground and hold a rifle were sent to the front (In Iran they were protecting oil fields for example). Stop being ignorant!

Do you really compare this widow with children waiting on the freeze for any food or a shelter to mostly demanding young men who just want to improve their economical situation? I'm not talking about these who really escape from the war in their country, but it is obvious and clear now who is the majority of this so called "refugees"
