Texan Kids Make Fun Of Their White Christian Moms

Of all the states in the USA, Texas stakes a claim for having the strongest identity. Conservative, tough, gun-loving and God-fearing, you pretty much know what to expect when a Texan walks into the room. But times they are-a-changin’ and a new, young, vibrant Texas is emerging in metropolises across the state, leading to a generational divide that throws up some interesting contrasts.

RELATED:

Take this wholesome story of newfound friendship for example. Tumblr user Nicholas, who goes under the username indiedrone, uploaded a pic of himself gently mocking his mom for her ‘crucifix cluster,’ apparently a fairly common sight in Texan homes where one symbol portraying a mans’ horrific death is never enough.

Nicholas’ post quickly got plenty of attention, as other Texan kids could relate. Fellow Tumblr user fullblownpanic joined in by sharing her own mom’s cross conglomeration, cheekily pulling the same pose.

Someone quipped that the pair would make a good couple, having experienced the same ‘crazy crucifix mom’ upbringing. However, it turns out that they have more in common than anyone could’ve imagined, despite coupling being out of the question.

A happy ending indeed! But what about mom? What does she think about all this? “Mom knows all about it, my relationship with her is really good,” Nicholas told Bored Panda. “We joke around and tease each other all the time!”

“She accepts me for who I am and we actually grew closer after I came out.”

Nicholas, who says he was thrilled to meet up with his new friend Gaby at Houston Pride, believes that the old stereotypes about Texas are a thing of the past, in the cities anyway. ” I would say they are more for rural places in Texas,” he told us. “Major cities like Houston, DFW, Austin, and San Antonio are very tolerant and accepting. In fact, the previous mayor of Houston was a lesbian and she was very open about it.”

The state motto of Texas is simply ‘Friendship,’ and this story is a perfect example of the welcoming, warm-hearted and friendly people you are bound to meet in this wonderful state!

Here’s how people reacted to the cute little story

That's got nothing on Italian/Spanish/Portuguese/Mexican/Latin American Grandmothers. Needs more candles, specifically more jesus/mary/saints candles, a few rosary's and an acutal framed picture of Jesus.

I don't see it as any less respectful than putting up a Christmas tree as a nonbeliever. Well maybe if they are all used for dildos or something. Anyway, it is ok to have decorations of a religious nature while not believing in said religion.

You know, there's one thing I haven't seen anyone pointing out...The fact that these mothers didn't throw these two gay kids out or otherwise punish them for being gay. (Not that that would be okay if they did. ) I mean, yeah, let's point out the "crazy" decorations, etc, but completely blow off the fact that these parents aren't bigots. Perhaps faith isn't as damaging as some are saying? (Faith and religion aren't exactly the same thing. People forget that sometimes. It's like people who go to church aren't necessarily Christian. It's just a social thing for some)

Is it odd that I find this very... pagan/totemistic/voodoo? I grew up 100% devoid of religion/religious iconography, and unless I'm in one of those Anglican churches that looks like a modern re-imagining of Noah's arc, all spartan and woody, I get all creeped out in Christian worship places. I can't process how people can imbue decorative objects with "magical" powers, especially when you see them in large, ocd volumes. Hard-wired rationalist unable to process pure unsubstantiated belief - my brain hurts.

I grew up protestant, evangelical, & spirit filled in TX... Nope, no religious icons nailed up on every wall, too pope-ish & idolatrous for us. The main evidence of zeal was a whole bookshelf filled with a well-used collection of different versions of the bible plus a few commentaries and books by prominent authors. The only thing mom and grammaw did to excess was to pray for their families. Their prayers spared me many times from getting in the middle of terrible wrecks driving the back roads you have to use to get anywhere. Thanks, and keep on praying! Their prayers also kept me alive many times working as an electrician working on services up to 4800 volts. I had to work with idiots who sometimes did scary dangerous things without telling you.

The mounted longhorn steer horns are in Dad's man cave. I don't know why my reply is duplicated, but I didn't do that on purpose

I think some of those crosses are quite pretty and if I would not feel disrespectfull (Agnosticist here) about it, I think I would collect them.

I don't see it as any less respectful than putting up a Christmas tree as a nonbeliever. Well maybe if they are all used for dildos or something. Anyway, it is ok to have decorations of a religious nature while not believing in said religion.

So... someone collects crosses, makes them Christian? Or a vampire-phobe? Hmm... If their name is Buffy, I'd be wary;-P

Geez, forgot to write that in Snark Font. Whoops... Seriously, I was raised Catholic... When I was little, I seriously believed vampires must exist in our area b/c of the number of crosses and such we had around!

kids are better educated nowadays---they can (because of social media(less isolation ) see the effects of religion & how damaging religion has been & still Is to mankind-

I know quite a few atheists who grew up in fundamentalist households. It seems the more fundamentalist the religion, the more likely kids will abandon the faith.

Each of us has something that makes us happy to see on the walls of our homes; Texas Christian moms (and moms of many states) have a love of crosses, LBGTQ's have a love of all kinds of rainbows, muscle-builders love to display their best pics

I have my friend’s paper butterflies on my walls (she sells them on eBay https://www.etsy.com/shop/hipandclavicle). I hate my house so much I don’t want to decorate much more (too much effort for a place I hate).

Oh boy, I feel like there is a lot of emphasis on stereotyping conservative Texans. Can't you just say to teens bond over their conservative backgrounds. It's adorable that they bonded and met and they really are not sh**ing on their parents being conservative.

They’re not being s**t on. Their weirdness is being called to attention, as it should, especially when the people doing it are their gay kids, who have historically been a group LITERALLY PERSECUTED by Christians.

I have to wonder just what these people did. Must have been one hell of a sin they committed because they know the devil's coming for them. You're going to need a bigger boat. And a whole lot more crosses. Good luck.

I had to work with idiots who sometimes did scary dangerous things without telling you.

yes, this panda post mildly mocks Christianity... A worse version in the same stream is when terrorists invade a church in the middle east and smash every religious icon... sometimes they add insult to injury by killing the worshippers there...

Despite the fact that it's two white christians making fun of their own white christian family??? I'm willing to bet that you're the same kind of person who bitches about how easily triggered the Left is and how hate speech is just censorship but here you are getting upset about some people having a laugh about their own family.
