Imagine getting a free ride, then telling your driver to get a more comfortable car because theirs is too old. While most of us would be grateful for the gesture, some people may see this act of generosity as an opportunity to demand more, and more, and more. Enter Choosing Beggars, a subreddit dedicated to showcasing ungrateful attitudes and shameless entitlement.

Avid Bored Panda readers might remember that we've covered the community a few times already, but with 2.6 million members, it's so active that one can easily get lost in its content. So, we decided to put together a collection of its funniest and most infuriating posts of all time.

Continue scrolling to check them out, and don't miss the chat we had with therapist and relationship expert Dr. Steven Stosny—you'll find it between the images.

Goodwill and other thrift stores hire released felons, on parole, and after. An acquaintance of mine was working at one when another parolee was arrested for molesting a mentally disabled co-worker (giving her unwanted neck rubs and backrubs). The guy was immediately fired. The other former inmates went to the boss worried about their jobs. "You break the law, you get fired. You don't, you don't. You are all good. Get back to work.

To gain a better understanding of these interactions, we got in touch with Dr. Steven Stosny, founder of Compassion Power in suburban Washington, DC, and author of several books on improving relationships.

"There are two major types of entitlement," he told Bored Panda.

"In the first, the entitled feel superior. If not acknowledged as having superior rights and privileges, they may feel inferior. Superiority and inferiority are opposite sides of the same coin."

"The second type is compensatory. Those who suffer from it see themselves as victims of unfair treatment and therefore entitled to special privileges as compensation. 'It's so hard being me. I shouldn't have to wait in line too.'"

Apparently, groomers charge even more for cats, and justifiably so, because A) Cat hair hair is very fine and takes a while to dry B) Cats curl up and contort into weird shapes to make grooming and drying more difficult C) Cats are more likely to be a-holes at the groomer's and have the equipment to back up their attitude. Their bites are also more likely to get infected.

As you can see from the pictures, we can run into entitled people at school, work, and other areas of everyday life. Researchers Emily Zitek and Alexander Jordan studied the behavior and published their findings in Social Psychological and Personality Science.

All in all, Zitek and Jordan conducted six experiments. They first tested how 1,259 individuals would behave during a basic word search task where it was essential to follow instructions. The researchers found that those with a high sense of entitlement were less likely to comply with the given directions.

From there, they tested different scenarios to see whether punishment, framing the task as optional, or reducing the perceived personal cost would lead them to comply. None of these tactics worked.

Entitled people do not follow instructions because they would rather take a loss themselves than agree to something they perceive to be unfair to them, the researchers concluded.

This really applies to any profession or trade. Reminds me of a story about an elderly engineer who was "retired" from a company and was called back some time later to fix some complicated bit of machinery. He looked at the situation briefly, checked a few things, then made a chalk mark in one place, and said "Your problem is under here. Remove the housing and you'll see it immediately." He later billed the company $5,000 for his time. Accounts sent back the bill asking for an itemization. He returned the itemized bill: "Fixing one machine $5,000.00: Item 1, One piece of chalk, $0.05. Item 2, Knowing where to make the mark, $4999.95."

A lot of labor times in automotive service are predetermined so if it's your first couple times doing a job, it might suck and take longer. If you get good at doing them you're punished like this one expressed. The problem is with the commission rate pay; it does not encourage good skill building.

As a former mechanic this attitude is so annoying and common. Mechanics are punished for being good. "Flag more hours to make (us) money but if you get good then we're going to reduce the amount so customers don't accuse us of ripping them off." Get good at diagnosing problems?....guess who gets all of the diag's that don't pay much or nothing at all because the shop "felt bad" the customer couldn't afford the repair so they didn't charge them the fee. No-win! Added bonus: The worst mechanics often become service advisors and that's why the person you talk to about the car (if it isn't the mechanic directly) is so incompetent. This is in the US, btw.

When I was in Nashville, I had a production house contact me for a photo shoot( I'm a professional makeup artist) and they agreed to my price. ( make up artists have to have a lot of products so they can accommodate anything that comes up. AND... gas was $5 a gallon back then!) Two days before the shoot, they said they wanted me to bring an assistant but for the same price. I said no, they said ok, just you. The night before they texted me that I wouldn't get paid, but it would be great exposure for me. Next morning I texted back that I got X$ an hour, and since they were giving me zero hours, they were getting 0 hours of work. They called in a panic, but still offered no money. "I don't know how to compensate your time" is a solved problem since the invention of currency in the early beginnings of civilization - shortly after fire, agriculture, writing and wheel (and some civilizations invented money even before the wheel, like some in South America). It created many more problems, but this particular case is covered and solved.

Stosny, author of Living and Loving After Betrayal and How to Improve Your Marriage Without Talking About It, said that one of the best strategies is to "ignore their sense of entitlement and act according to your own sense of fairness."

However, if you do find yourselves in a conflict with them, try not to take their coping mechanisms personally.

Sadly, I know someone (friend of a friend) who does something similar. Her husband has a really high paying job in a local manufacturing facility, he's been there for decades so he's the top tier of pay. He has the new car, she keeps the old car, she wears old clothes and then goes around to the food banks and brings home grocery bags full of food and think she's really smart for getting free groceries. She justifies it because twice a year the plant has a shutdown for 2 weeks, I believe the employees are even compensated for the time that they're not there, but she tells everyone that her husband's out of work. Technically it's true he's not working. But that's the lie that she uses to justify why she can rob the food banks 52 weeks a year. I'm sorry to say that I'm not sorry that this lady recently passed away.

In the city, where I live there is a guy who begs in a wheelchair every day. At the end of the day he gets up and wheels the wheelchair home. Only the locals know. So many people have complained to him, but he really doesn’t care. I’d love someone to do this.

I had something similar happen to me. As my sister and I were leaving a store, a nicely dressed man near a car with its hood up looked visibly upset and said he would be late for an interview and if we could spare some money so he could catch a cab. He said he had a friend coming by for the car, but he couldn't wait. We gave him some money. A few weeks later as I was leaving another store, I saw him again. I recognized the tie he was wearing and he had the same body shape. He was pulling the same scam. I told him I recognized him and I would be telling on him. He tried to argue it wasn't him, but I never saw him again in the area.

People I’ve been in rehab with ran scams like that. One guy would put on a suit, go downtown, and tell people he had a job interview and accidentally left his wallet at home, so if you could please help him out with some money for train fare…

This is why several cities where I live are starting to hand out tickets to people who give money to these people. They are having a hard time stopping the beggars so now they are targeting the people that give out the money. Years ago police arrested a beggar only to find out he had almost $1 million dollars in the bank....... most of these people are scamming people!

The handful of people like this who are out there begging under false pretenses make the general public suspicious of anyone asking for help, and it’s infuriating. My policy is to give if I can. I would rather risk the “wrong” person get money they don’t need, than the “right” person missing money they very much do need to survive.

We have one of those in Houston. He's called the Gas Can Man. He even has a facebook page so people can tag his location. He often times gets really angry (especially with women) and will rant and rave and sometimes even damages your car. He was gone for a while (Pretty sure he got arrested) but now he's back!

I actually had to tell a potential customer this the other day. It took me years to learn how to make a particular item, I sell them for $100, other people sell something similar for $500, this person's asking if I'll sell it for 10 because it's expensive. I said no, and suggested that they take a screenshot of the item, print it, and put the picture in their collection until they can afford to purchase it for real. (And if that sounds like I'm being sarcastic I'm not because that's what I used to do with my collections, print out photos of the items I was missing and just put the photos in my display case until I could afford to get the real thing)

There also seems to be a misunderstanding about how to value something that is not a “need.” Some people seem to reason that because having a mural done isn’t a necessary service, it should be free or cheap. Actually, having art installed in your home is a *luxury* service that comes at a price high enough to ensure there are enough artists in existence for such a luxury to exist.

They have no problem purchashing a reproduction shirt of a sportist who kicks the ball around skilfully, paying for it 100+ euros/dollars (with all respect for their skill), but they have an issue respecting the original skill of a genuine artist that is often cheaper than that shirt.

You want a gift? The least you can do is invite me to a baby shower that I have no intention to go to. Because then you'll get the gift, I'll make some excuse as to why I can't go, feel slightly bad about it, you get the gift, and I don't have to go to a baby shower. Win win.

That is how humans work psychologically. I do get that the firm price guy is technically correct, but is wrong when it comes to dealing with humans. Obviously the firm price guy isn't really in the sales industry and doesn't care about the sale but yeah, start out high and give them a "deal". Stores do it all the time.

I don't have cash app, therefore I do not understand.

In professional environments, Zitek and Jordan — the authors of the aforementioned study — advise framing instructions to the entitled in ways that make them seem fairer or more legitimate. (Making sure they're satisfied could help operations run smoothly, at least for the time being.)

The authors offered another tip: "If the instructions come from an in-group member such as a peer instead of from an authority figure, perhaps entitled individuals would be more likely to view the instructions as fair and therefore follow them."

However....in the early days of having our business my wife would do free photo/editing work for other small businesses in exchange for having her name and "photo by" that would link to a bio page with her contact info....which led to a bunch of paying clients, including several corporate ones. Those "free" shoots and editing work generated 10's of thousands of dollars over the years.

This just makes me laugh and then know not to take them seriously. I went to Disney World during the holidays and was in a Disney Collector group for my city on fb. Saw a lady asking for someone to pick up this large plushie. I didn't check any bags so space was limited but I contacted her I can pick it up for price+taxes+small fee. She was very nice and really happy. Got home and got super sick, couldn't unpack. I told her I'll leave the plush outside my door and she put money under mat cause I was too sick to interact. After, she messaged me about a spot on the plush. No idea if it was on there before or after. It wasn't bad, easily washed. She demanded money back, how I ruined Christmas, blah blah. She even tried to compare illnesses? I don't know, she flipped. I told her I wasn't a personal shopper (I said this many times while planning tge pick up) or business, I'm not refunding money. It was the most crazy situation. Never going to offer to do that again.

They really really hate paying designers, yet expect top quality, designs, crocheted samples and fully written patterns. The parting of the ways came when one December 20th they asked me to design, crochet and write up the pattern for a bed sized throw in fingering weight cotton yarn, before they reopened in the new year..... They were proposing I give up the next two weeks over Christmas to 18+ hour days on the project, for £200. I think my response was something like haha hahahaha f**k off.

DMC is a very big company and a very simple, typical free pattern would be a good advertising for the artists. I often bought some of their patterns after a free one , visiting their homepages. So dont be too greedy, peoplez.

There are times when I'm willing to sing for free, but, unless you're a close friend or family member, I can't drop everything to perform at your event/church/whatever. Music is my JOB. Yes, I need exposure, but unless you're running a legit opera festival (providing significant instructional and/or networking opportunities), I literally cannot afford the time.

This is the first time I've heard the term "begpacker," but - looking at the description - it seems like the more elaborate version of the c**p that has been going on over here in the US for a long time. I can't tell you how many people I've had come up to me in a parking lot and ask for money because their "car ran out of gas" or they need a "bus ticket back home" to a nearby city... many of the people who do it are regularly there doing the same thing. Sad how this type of behavior ruins trust of the general public and creates a sense of apathy that may prevent someone from getting this kind of help when there is a rare instance that it actually is needed.

    Nicole Weymann

Begpackers (aka western/privileged tourists) also like to post their ventures on social media. The message (also written on cardboard signs when they stand on the curb) is something on the lines of "Help me make my dream of travelling the world come true!" with lots of 🥰🌻😃✨❤️🧡💛💚💙💜💖 BS on it. Imagine travelling to a country for thousands of dollars when people there live on monthly wages that are a fraction of your one way plane ticket, and then have the audacity and social awareness of a dog turd on a silver plate to go begging from these people, some of them sleeping on the literal streets, to "make my dream come true".

All these "I hope you die" make FU seem kinda gentle ;) On the other hand...the artist dying someday is something we can pretty much take for granted. So without specification time-wise---isn't I hope you die quite the same as "whatever, I hope everything goes naturally"?

Demand tipping is B*** S*** Tipping is for extra special service. We had a sloppy boy chase us into the parking lot with his grubby little hand out. He deserved a reprimand, not hardly a 'tip'. During my 17 years in that business a tip and a penny was something extra plus a compliment on good service, 2 cents and no tip meant I didn't forget, the service as lousy. they don't even know that now.

Our waitress was rude to my Mother (oh, HELL no). So I put my credit card on the table for her to run. I drew a line through the tip portion and signed it. She got pissy and actually said, "Wait. There's no tip on here". So, I, being the smartass b*tch I am said, "I've got a tip for you, SHELBY. Don't you EVER act like a b*tch to my Mother again". Very loudly. What's funny is that my sister was with us. We were testing menu items for her wedding reception, she had already booked the restaurant (Salty's on Alki in Seattle) and called over their wedding coordinator. She (also very loudly) said, "I just want to make it perfectly clear. SHELBY is NOT to be part of the waitstaff at my reception". So satisfying.

As a vocalist, I FEEL this. If you want someone to sing for free at your event, ask aunt Lydia or your friend's thirteen year old aspiring diva. They'd love the exposure. But, if you want professional musicians, you need to be willing to compensate them for their time—and not just the time they spend at your gig! When you hire a professional, you're paying for the thousands upon thousands of hours and dollars they spent learning how to perform at a high level, and you're probably getting a better deal than us! Most of us are so obsessed with music that, if we could perform for free and not starve, we absolutely would. Alas, we would starve and I'd rather not do that.

Makes me remember my aunt Sonya, who I thought was the best singer ever. Not a professional (she was actually an accountant), but anytime the occasion called for a song, she would just take a deep breath to prepare, and then sing like an angel.

She misses slavery, the racist punk, cannot get that the minimum wage is (still!) $7.25 most places in our USA? That all those other expenses have to come from the employer, not the mark, & that there are many places where overtime is still 1.5* wages. I feel so much anger. Reminds me of a Harry Chapin song (so many things do, lol) called "Odd Job Man" where a rich dude gets this guy to work around his house while he's away on a business trip. The guy spends a LOT of time at the dude's house working as well as "working" on the guy's helpful wife. Guy gets back, hands the odd job man a hundred dollars, "I say, 'That's just a buck an hour sir!', he says, 'That's what I pay for jerks', now I admit that almost blew my cool but I staggered back to work, you see most times when it's said and done there's justice to this life 'cause what that man had done to me I'd done to his wife!" years ago i adressed a woman that skipped a gigantic line without asking and stepped in front of me. I told her that the line starts in the back and not here, and her answer was "i have c and i dont have to stand in line" (her real words) i was like WTF and said "if you cant stay inline for long you could have asked at least?!" she then started screaming to me that i had to shut the F up and that she didnt have to ask anything and it was her right bla bla bla. I was trying to find security somewhere, couldnt, she kept harrasing me,and then she almost tripped because she kept walking turned around (to yell at me and to take pics of me) i said "be carefull or you'll break your legs too!" then she proceded to scream at me that she hoped i got c too. I never met such a vile person before. She was crying and all and trying to get others to feel sorry for her but everyone ignored her. Still very proud of myself for staying as calm as i did.

I'm assuming she had kids so she could be a SAHM, because she sounds like a lazy AH, and her soon-to-be-ex had a bit of a windfall not so long ago? (which she dived through) I can't otherwise understand why they had kids if they were struggling. Maybe the OP should have got a job instead and took some pressure off her soon-to-be-ex.

I have to ask.... how do these peeps manage to do ANYTHING with nails that long? Mine were 3mm over the tip of my fingers, and I had to cut/file them short after I had my daughter - nappy pins (back in the day) were fiddly, and I accidentally scratched her when first changing her nappy. Fair enough, if they're so rich they have peeps to do everything for them ... prob to wipe their backsides for them, too!

Women need to understand that getting nails done is a luxury, not a necessity and it cost $. Either learn how to do them yourself with gel or dip or pay for the service and they are not cheap. For that design $60 is a bargain where I live

Something similar happened with my cousins and uncle. My brother spent days fixing up an old computer from parts so our cousins could have a PC to use for school. Even put in a modem. Older cousin was 18 at the time, younger 13. Explained that 13 year-old would need supervision on the Net. All well except uncle either didn't know how old his oldest was or thought he was too innocent. Yanked all the cables out the back and broke the computer my brother had so generously given his spare parts and time for. Never bought them anything again.

Yes. Popularly, countries with pine trees will chop them down and use a tree-holding base to prop it up in the house. Christmas trees in many movies are based on this. In the USA, they have become more expensive as folks not from the PNW literally pay to have them flown by helicopter to their location for Christmas decor.

I live in a bad area where I KNOW many are addicts, when they ask me for money I ask why. 99% of the time they say food, ok, I live right beside a Tim Hortons, I offer to buy a bagel or sandwich and then, 95% of the time they say they just want the money, which I walk away from. The other 5% get food.
