Got Todlerred: Parents Are Sharing Photos Of Them Before And After Having Kids, And The Difference Is Too Real
Everything takes its toll, and raising children is no exception. Mike Julianelle of a blog called Dad and Buried has started a funny trend, making people post side-by-side photos before and after they became parents to show how their little kids 'ruined' them.
Julianelle has a 7-year-old and a nearly-2-year-old and has been sharing the real truth about parenting on his blog for quite some time now. After he uploaded his version of 'Before and After parenthood,' others quickly followed. "Obviously, it's meant to be lighthearted, and no one is seriously blaming their children for the state of their faces or lives," Mike told HuffPost. "Except for me when I seriously blame my kids for the state of my face and my life, which is basically all I do on my blog and Facebook page and Twitter," he then joked.
According to Julianelle, the main message of this story is the fact that it's okay, to be honest about the pitfalls of raising kids. "There's no shame in admitting that for all the peaks, there are plenty of pits in daily life. Kids are the worst best thing that's ever happened to us and if we don’t laugh about the havoc they wreak we'd have to cry instead and I’m not a crier."

So nothing really, because they are older in the photos. That's because of age, not children. Oh, yes, in some photos they look tired. Might be a huge surprise, but people can be tired without children as well.

Ask every parent if they regret it. Most of them would say no! Yeah we are tired and sometime our kid drives us crazy, but nothing can beat a: ''I love you mommy" or "I love you daddy" from our kids.

I think the one thing that becomes obvious is that over time the parents generally seem to care less about their own appearance. I am NOT calling any of them "ugly" or anything like that but they just seem to settle for less for themselves as time goes on :)

Finally we’re starting to admit the ugly truth behind having children. Most parents keep pretending it's fantastic, the most beautiful thing that can possibly happen to you, the biggest joy in life - but omit all the negativity. They don't want to admit (to themselves first) how miserable they feel, because this makes them feel guilty. And the guilt comes from the widespread misrepresentation of parenthood as the most beautiful thing on Earth, the core narrative of our family-centric society. Many paedo-fanatics truly believe in this narrative because to them their children ARE the best thing in THEIR lives, and act as if their personal opinion and their personal experience was a universal truth, attacking those who don’t feel like them, inflicting guilt in those who happen to have a different experience. A more honest and objective narrative would prevent a lot of guilt-filled, stressed out unhappiness in parents, resulting in better quality of life for both parents and children.

Is this supposed to be realistic? People's appearance in two or more photographs can vary because of age, weight gain, hair style, type of make up or lack thereof, differences in facial hair, facial expressions, ambient lighting, camera angle, color shading, flash v nonflash, the quality of the camera and its overall pixel resolution, lens used not to mention if photoshop was employed. How can anyone possible believe that differences in photographs of the same people is due solely to parenting?

Before kids sure, I had a lot more time to work on my exterior. Since kids, I've mostly worked on my interior. Also I get no sleep.

Good lord, I raised two kids, and had the best time of my life. I had mine before the age of 21 and bought my first house by the age of 21. . I worked full time and coached soccer. Both of my kids graduated college and seem to be relatively happy and successful people, so I was not an total flop as a parent. My mom worked full time and raised five kids all by herself. I understand that there are certain levels of stress and fatigue that go into child rearing, but I get frustrated with all this talk about "adulting" being so hard. Especially when it comes from 35 and 40 year old adults who appear not to be functioning after having one child. Maybe I'm just being b****y, but damn. Some of you are probably stressing out your kid more then your kid is stressing you out. JMHO.

Children are self-centered and parasitic. They feed off of their parents. They literally suck the life out of you and leave behind an empty shell when they are done with you. To all of you Global Warming zealots, if you have children you are the cause of the problem. Those who have chosen not to reproduce should receive rebate checks for not having a downline that can add up to hundreds of offspring in the course of 100 years. A government tax of $10,000 for each child you have would be a small start to fix the problem. See how loud the liberals yell about global warming when their litters of gastropods start costing them.

I think this post is stupid in a way and good in another way. Why stupid? Of course, many people look less attractive as they age and/or without make-up and hair. (And depending on camera quality and angle...) I know people without children who look like trash and I also know mothers which still look smashing because they didn't stop to do work out, hair, nails, makeup etc. Why good? Because normally you only see pictures of parents looking fabulous while doing the most amazing activities with their children. Parenthood isn't like that 24/7 and I know that some parents get stressed by seeing all these pictures of "parents of the year". It makes them feel like worthless or not good enough parents even though they're not. (Sorry, Google Translate is amazing but mostly c**p.)

I see those pictures and it reminds me why I chose not to have kids of my own. Yet, I can't help but wonder why / how I ended up working full time with preschoolers... My guess : I get to educate and nurture kids all week long, I love it, but after 3 PM and on weekends and holidays, I can kick back and enjoy uninterrupted "whatever it is that I want to do, including sleep". The very best of both worlds, for me! :)

I don't agree, motherhood is not what makes us ugly, we just become more down to earth and do not see the need in running around with makeup on all the time. We can still be beautiful, once we scrape of the puke off our shoulder and put the makeup back on. And honestly, have we always been beautiful before? We just did not take pictures of the ugly truth. Calm down and eat a cookie....

For me, I actually got better shape and health as my child grew up. I figured I needed to take care of myself physically and mentally to be able to proctect, provide and guide him through his life. We all have a choice. We either give up or we keep fighting and I refused to let that be an excuse not to take care of myself.

I'm in my 50's, and used to sing in rock bands in my early 20's, so I usually joke that "None of my kids have ever found me!" And it's kinda curious that many people don't believe I'm over 50 Looking at the before & after photo's I'm getting their point. However, when I catch up with my friends who do have kids It rapidly turns into me being "Uncle Frank, the human playground" Bloody bunch of ratbags! You gotta love em! :-)

The reality is this. Every one of those people's BEFORE photos were of a day/event where they're main focus was in looking their best and let's face it, no one can look their best every single moment most especially when our focus in life changes to that which truly is important in life. When we are projecting a certain image to the rest of the world, we are actually deceiving ourselves and others into believing that we are someone that we are not, someone who is fake. When we begin to focus on that which truly is important in life and ignore all that stuff in the outside world that is only meant to distract us from that which truly is important in life, our true selves come forth and THAT is called reality vs fantasy. Judging others solely by their outside appearance is considered small and narrow minded not to mention petty and immature.

honestly for me having children made me want to become healthier and take better care of myself. so this is not my reality, still feel the effects of taking care of little ones, yes its a tiring job. but it just motivates me to do better so i can be around longer for them.

Every wrinkle, gray hair, pound of fat the either my wife OR I have gained is a badge of honor by raising an Eagle Scout and also a girl who has political science aspirations! We gave of ourselves to better our children. Anyone arguing the opposite is just plain stupid, IMHO.
