Anti-vaxxer conspiracies have continued to spread, and because of their beliefs - so have the measles. Oregon and Washington are among eighteen states that allow families to opt-out of vaccines for viral diseases based on philosophical beliefs, which is why these areas have been the most recent hotbed for the measles outbreak. More than 50 people have been infected across Southwest Washington state and Northwest Oregon - and everyone is fed up with the anti-vaccination science deniers.
"It's an outbreak because generally, the way we define an outbreak is when you have more observed cases than expected cases. And generally with measles, the expected number is zero," Dr. Alan Melnick with Clark County Public Health told KOIN6 TV in Portland, Oregon, last week. "You know, we have a very effective vaccine for measles. Two shots are 97 percent effective. So we really shouldn't be seeing measles." Elnathan John, a Nigerian writer and lawyer, called out American's who wanted travel bans on countries with Ebola by pointing out the current measles outbreak.
Not sure how this is a burn. As an American, if I were going to another country I would WANT that country to be sure that I am not a carrier of disease. There is nothing wrong with screening your immigrants, your Visa holders, your visitors, and your tourists. Some countries NEED to have this protection such as Australia or New Zealand. So what's the burn?
Load More Replies...sadly those who are anti-vaxx are mostly adult who has been vaccinated when they were Young. this isn't proof that vaccine works? they proove it by not vaccinated their kids and condamn some of them to death. their kids are the victim of their stupidity.
Sadly, that is exactly what's causing this... the diseases have disappeared for long enough (thanks to vaccines) for those parents to have never really seen them, so they don't realize how dangerous they really are nor how common they were before vaccines.
Load More Replies...A number of countries have vacation requirements for entry. No reason African countries should be any different.
I survived the 10 day measles and the German measles as a child because the vaccines were not available. I spent 10 days in a darkened room to avoid the seizures, and I am lucky to have my sight and hearing. How could parents put their children through this??
anti- antivaxx propaganda. There is no pharmaceutical counterpart in the world that does anything comparable to the fast. Where's that fasting mandate? Exercise mandate? Nutrition and supplement mandate? Ya know, real science and biology? Seems like reality and original thought has been obliterated from the human genome these last few years.
Every one has the right to choose whether or not to take the COVID vaccine. This site fails to mention that the COVID vaccine has killed an estimated 300,000 people so far. They also fail to mention the millions who are permanently disabled by the COVID vaccine.
One of the best reasons I've heard is the conspiracy that if you get the vaccine for Covid the government will track you, once I could stop laughing I asked do you have a SSN? Of course response was yes, to which I said let me tell you a well known secret the government has been tracking you since your number was issued so get the damn vaccine.
Many anti-vaxxers use the possibility of having an autistic child as one of their debate points - but this autistic person had a counterpoint.
This one I fully concure with. I'm autistic to and not an idiot. During my life I've been headhunted by companies, worked around the world, studied years at university, experienced things few have, been in love , had my heart broken, etc. Yet theese idiots seem to think that I would be better of dead than live my life.
It's really frustrating seeing parents prefer to have a dead child rather than an autistic child (not that vaccines cause autism but they're not smart enough to do any research themselves)...
Load More Replies...i fall in the spectrum and i have faced trouble caused by (insensitive) idiots, none due to all the vaccines i have received.
This is what I don't get from the antivax crowd....It's not like being autistic is a death sentence. I know quite a few people who are on the spectrum and who live perfectly normal lives. Also...there's that thing where vaccines don't even cause autism in the first place.
I am sure they only think about the worst case scenarios.
Load More Replies...My Line: "If vaccines caused Autism then there would be a whole lot more of us." Just sayin'
Even if vaccines DID cause autism (which they don't) if you'd rather have a dead child than an autistic child, you don't deserve to be a parent AT ALL.
Idk why ppl think autism means lack of intelligence. Autistic ppl are sometimes even smarter than ppl who are not. They might perceive the world in different ways from us, but that doesn´t mean they are incapable to achieve their own goals .
Famous people with Autism; Tesla, Turing, Einstein. Famous Anti-vaxxers; no one. They all died before they were able to make a difference.
As if any of these pox-riddled crotch goblins could hold a candle to my amazing autistic little boy! 😂
An argument for not vaccinating kids is that it's more natural and therefore healthier- well this user points out that humans created vaccines for a reason.
They were given smallpox infected blankets. Go figure

I struggled with the decision about vaccinations when my children were little. My mother left it up to me but she did tell me how her 3 year old brother died in her arms from diphtheria. He was in pain and agony before he died. That made my decision to vaccinate my children.
Yes. The grand old age of 40 was the life expectancy. Babies dying. Children dying. Teenagers dying. Disease, germs and more disease. No cures or simple medicine.
Anti-vaxxers say they want to return to a simpler, more 'natural' time - well this user had some holes to poke in that theory.
*sarcasm* Most likely because they didn't drink pure water. Of course it has nothing to do with vaccination. Why would it?
And they lived to the ripe old age of "died in childbirth!"
Load More Replies...It's still b******t, but to be completely fair, washing your hands properly does make a huge difference, and there actually are kids with weak immune systems and lots of allergies because they are raised in a bubble.
.... vaccinatons lower your immune system??? How? Because it doesn't have to fight measles as hard?? I don't get it.
Vaccines actually BOOST your immune system. Vaccination introduces your immune system to nasty things and primes it to fight those nasties when you encounter them. Antivaxxers are morons.
Load More Replies...Do anti-vaxxers not believe in soap too? A lot of soap has the same ingredients as hand sanitizer and what about the water? Do they wash in bottled water? Tap water has extra stuff in it. Wow I can't imagine how delusional of a world they must live in.
I don't understand how people don't understand on the most basic levels how vaccinations work. If they have access to the internet, why not take the time to educate yourself?
Some people simply possess the talent to find, among the billions of sources, precisely the ones that have 0% real information, while completely ignoring the actual information bombarding them from all directions. These branches of people's population are truly marvellous simply because they actually came to be. What I'm trying to say is that they are so remarkably stubborn, it's a miracle they didn't oppose evolution when they were still protozoans. My grandmother is a perfect example of this kind of people. She never wants to change, even if it's for the better. She's stubborn, narrow-minded, believes in reptilians(snake-like creatures that can turn into famous people in order to rule the planet. I know you are like "What!?", but some people do believe in this c**p), that the Moon's a hologram and also doesn't believe in evolution. And I can't believe we are relatives.

Approximately 110 000 people died from measles in 2017 – mostly children under the age of 5 years according to the World Health Organization.
That's most likely the saddest post that I readed lately. In some countries, parents are fighting to vaccinate their children, while we do NOT want to vaccinate them because of some conspiracy theories. That's just plain stupid.
To be fair, some third world parents will also not be vaccinating because of conspiracy theories. In Afghanistan and Pakistan there's a widespread belief that health workers are a network of US spies, so believe piggybacking on a real health campaign --- others believe spreading malicious injections. Similarly lots of African distrust coming from 'traditional' medicine.

We get our vaccines for free here in Kenya through the Gotv hospitals, occasionally there are also mobile clinics and school visits to ensure all the children get their vaccines. It goes almost unopposed. People in rural areas always have to keep an ear out for Gotv announcements for new vaccines and won't mind even walking miles to get the shots for their kids because we all know it could results in death something as preventable as measles or chicken pox.
Danielle Holder, "A lot of Muslims refuse as they believe everyone is out to sterilize their kids." That would be "some Muslims". Would you also agree with "A lot of Christians refuse as they believe everyone is out to make their kids autistic."
In the 1950's, people had large families. All the kids got chickenpox and measles and developed natural immunity!!
Internet user highlights exactly how necessary vaccines are and other commenters jump in with equally valid comparisons.
I see that people are getting downvoted for saying this, but kids don't need meat in the same way that dogs need meat. Dogs are carnivores, humans are omnivores. I do think that children should not be forced into a vegetarian diet before they are capable of making that decision themselves, though - because a vegetarian diet is very difficult to do correctly. It's much easier to get all of your nutrients without restrictions. But that part is opinion.
I agree that kids don't need meat but lacto-ovovegetarian diet is not very difficult to do correctly. I mean people should be more concerned if kids didn't eat their veggies

Parent brings child consent into the vaccine debate and gets shot down with the perfect answer.
If only they would care so much for the consent of the child when it comes to his freedom of religion, career plans or sexual orientation...
I assume they're cool with mutilating their son's genitals without their consent tho...
Sickos who mutilate their son's genitals are absolutely, 100% NO different than the sickos who force female genital mutilation on their girls!! Sadistic practices should be outlawed and the parents chopping up their babies should be sterilized and thrown in prison!!

No kid is going to volunteer to get a needle shoved in them. Being a parent means making them do things that aren't always fun, but necessary.
Depends on (1) how smart the kid is, and (2) what you tell them about the vaccine.

The worse thing is they actually "quote" medical professionals sometimes, saying their doctor admitted about the dangers of vaccines or an agency listed all the side effects. The conspiracy is really confusing because in their eyes doctors either only tell the "secret" to a few "chosen ones", or the "truth" is out in the open but doctors still try to "manipulate" society

Parent in an anti-vaxxing Facebook group seeks advice against judgmental neighbors - and receives an unexpected response.
It's not just about the kids who don't get vaccinated... it's about all the immune-compromised individuals (like newborns and elderly, cancer patients, etc) who can't get vaccinated that are also going to die from what they get from the kids who don't get vaccinated.
That's the biggest issue. We should make antivaxxers stay away from anyone with a suppressed immune system, especially newborns. My 40ish neighbor died from catching the flu just after she started chemo. That may not have been preventable, but many other diseases are.

Load More Replies...I work with autistic children. Their parents insist that vaccines gave their child autism, so they stop all vaccinations after the diagnosis (I'm pretty sure you can't get MORE autistic, but they don't want to take the chance). Also, these parents fund research for curing and preventing autism (Why is one form of medical prevention ok, but not another?) On an interesting side note, all of the mothers of the autistic kids I work with used artificial sweeteners before and during pregnancy. But aspartame isn't the culprit, it had to be the vaccines!

Vaccines aren't magic potions. You are obviously confused. Autism is not a virus so there will never be a vaccine against autism. Much like they don't cause autism, ever.
Anti-vaxxers try to create false equivalencies and are shut down through memes.
yeah… poor kids todays. hostage of their parents… when you Don't see what you should be afraid of you Don't realise the danger of that. we aren't afraid anymore of disease like that because we almost never see it.
I had measles (and Mumps and Chicken Pox, but thankfully not Polio...) BEFORE there was a vaccine and I didn't die but I wished that I had. I vaccinated my son but now he doesn't do it for his own kids because of his wife's sister and blah, blah, blah... I feel for Ashley & Owen, my grandkids.
I had measles as an adult. I didn't die, but I did end up running a 106 degree fever for a week, and wasn't able to father kids. Thanks to an unvaccinated 4 year old girl.
Bunch of c**p,measles is so dangerous! Allows, your breast milk will not prevent your kids from getting any of these illnesses. So forget that argument!

Actually, that can happen with some victims of polio, who have recovered from the initial bout of polio. 20, 30 years later it can gradually recur as post polio, with the victim gradually losing mobility, until they are completely confined to a wheelchair. I'm old enough to have seen people wearing caliphers to aid their ability to be mobile. And this is now preventable, so why not vaccinate?
Load More Replies...Even if he was in a wheelchair, we're supposed to take his word for it that it came from a polio vaccination and not because he got the c**p beaten out of him for making stupid unfounded comments about vaccines....

What isn't brought up is that such tribes had (and still have) high infant mortality rates... even before any interaction with other cultures. Often from easily treatable things such as diarrhea.
Not true! JESUS invented diseases so that he could cure people miraculously! [sarcasm]
And if those Amazon tribes were exposed to us with our germs and viruses, they would probably die since they don't have immunity. Read your history- what happened to the American Indians, the Mayans, etc.
The better part is that even in difficult access parts of Amazonia, people are vaccinated. At least here in Brazik they are, except for a few tribes. The distribution system has yet to improve a lot. So yeah! They're doing fine' but they HAVE been vaccinated
I cannot believe how stupid that original poster's comment was... just 🤣🤣🤣
Tribes in the amazon are not dying from those diseases because they weren’t EXPOSED to those diseases. There are many natives tribes that have not fallen ill to certain things because they haven’t had contact with the people that would carry them. It’s the result of reclusive existence. If you suddenly showed up to one of those tribes with a minor cold they would drop dead (well, not literally) because the bacteria they’re exposed to is completely unknown by their immune systems. Also, they may not have the antibiotics to help fight the bacteria as the immune system sort of “memorizes it” for the body to fight that bacteria better if exposed to it again. And that process of memorizing the illness to fight it better in the future is the basis of how vaccines work in the first place.
Someone asks for a suggestion for preventing measles other than a vaccine and another user has this 'healthy' recommendation.

I wasn't vaccinated against rubella. I had other forms of measles and measles-like diseases as a child, and we thought I'd had it. When I was 20, just before spring break, I was in the stairwell at my school's computer science building. One of the grad students had his 4year old daughter, who wasn't vaccinated, with him. She had measles. They thought it was a cold. Three days later, I had 106 degree fever and could barely move around, during a time when nobody was there. I ended up being taken to the health center (I didn't have the presence of mind to go there) after the skin-rash part showed up -- it takes a week or so. They took enough blood out of me that I thought they might be making vaccine. Thanks to that extra fever, I wasn't able to father children later on in life -- my wife had several miscarriages when we tried.
for everyone comparing the amounts of aluminum and formaldehyde in breast milk, baby milk, and food to the amounts in vaccines... realize that it's different injecting aluminum into your body than simply ingesting it. your bloodstream as well as muscle and fat tissues store the aluminum much much more than what gets stored swallowing it in the same amounts.
Although the vaxer makes a valid point, thimerasol is toxic. That is why the pharmaceutical companies removed it from contact lens solutions. I know from personal experiences and almost went blind. Whenever I need a vaccine, I request one that does not contain thimerasol or any other mercury containing elements.

I'm on the autistic spectrum. They didn't produce the MMR until I was a teenager. Guess it's supposed to work retroactively? Some doctor who lost his license convinced his friend to publish a paper about research which wouldn't be acceptable for a junior high-school science project, and Shazam!, people still believe that the MMR causes autism. Were y'all sleeping when they taught the scientific process?
I actually managed to get sick when taking a flu shot once a couple of decades ago. I was already on the verge of getting sick, and lied when the nurse asked if I had a cold or similar comming . My thinking was that the shot would prevent the flu to break out in earnest. Apparently, it doesnt work that way. And yes. The day after I had the flu something bad. I stil wonder whats in all thats good made me think that. Doesnt mean vaccine dont work. Just means that you supposed to tell the thruth to the nurse giving the shots
VACCINES DO NOT CAUSE AUTISM!!! Vaccines are good things! They help your body build antibodies to fight off the actual virus when you become exposed to it. Without vaccines, your body is defenseless against these horrific diseases and you could die from them. Get vaccinated! The binding agents, however, could be to blame. Many binding agents include various forms of mercury. Many people are VERY hypersensitive to mercury. I know from personal experience. I almost went blind from the mercury that was used in contact lens solutions many years ago. Oh, No!!! What should I do? Pharmaceutical companies do make vaccines without mercury compounds. Ask your doctor for vaccines that do not contain mercury compounds.
So vaccines don’t work unless everyone takes them? How does it spread to someone who already took the vaccine? Why not just let antivaxers die off if they’re only hurting themselves?
because they affect everybody else, and they make up a large part of the population, so herd immunity would not work

Then we went on holiday to a family farm where I - and everyone else - had fresh milk - it being a dairy farm - I got tuberculosis - no-one else did. It was because I'd not long had the measles and it had dropped my immune resistance very low. So at 3 I spent 8 months in a sanotorium - and I was lucky I got it in my right knee and left eye. My mother could only visit at weekends as it was a 2 hour journey each way and they didn't have a car. I can still remember the injections - and when I came out of hospital I had streptomycin tablets. They were very successful, but it was early in their development and were made in liver, they were big brown smarties that you had to chew and tasted awful. I was lucky - I survived - not all the children did. Since then I've never been healthy - I had my right kneecap removed when I was 22 because of arthritis, I have fibromyalgia and chronic fatigue syndrome. All because I had measles
I was not vaccinated as a kid for medical reasons (only had polio and smallpox vaccines - back then they still vaccinated against smallpox!) and then I had them all - pertussis, measles, mumps, chicken pox... It was not fun - I spent most of my childhood years in hospitals. Vaccinate your kids!

Scientist are sitting on a cure for cancer 3) Oil companies are suppressing a car that gets 150 mpg 4) Tesla sent electricity through the air over 100's of miles 5) AIDS is a man made virus 6) Alternative Medicines are as effective as scientifically based medicine 7) GMO's are dangerous 8) Man made climate change is a myth 9) Antivaxx or the grand daddy of them all.....10) Young earth creationism. - Did I miss any?
Lola DM That was what the propaganda were saying when GMO came, but that is not what happened. The truth is that they made the crops resistant to herbicides. Read this: https://enveurope.springeropen.com/articles/10.1186/2190-4715-24-24
Load More Replies...Dear anti-vaxxers a blog is not a trusted source. If you think that it is you clearly prove the point of why vaxxing your kids is important.
Let´s put them in reserves. Then they don't risk others lives that are allergic to vaccines and have problems with their immunsystems.
Load More Replies...I'm always bemused by how little history the anti vaccination people know. Having benefited gigantically from the sciences that have raised life expectancy to its current level, they stupidly assume "it was always like this" .
Thank our grand parents who stepped up and rolled up their sleeves -and their screaming children's sleeves - to defeat diseases we have never even seen in our life times. What has happened to these new generations??
Load More Replies...I'm 64. When I was 2 I got measles, not even very badly.
As an avid essential oil user... I have to deal with antivaxxers all the time (rolls eyes). One argument that I see a lot is "I wouldn't set my kid on fire to keep yours warm" and every time I see some one post it I just blink at the screen. How is that even a valid argument. I would say it's comical to watch it but really its just scary.
