When most people purchase a home, they are thrilled to have a safe, comfortable space to return to every evening. A humble abode that they can do whatever they like with. Tear down a wall separating the kitchen and living room to make one large space? Sure! Install wood floors in the dining room and a pool in the backyard? Whatever floats your boat! Your home is yours, and it should be the coziest, most welcoming place in the world for you.
Sometimes, however, homeowners don’t get to have the full say in how they decorate and run their homes, because HOAs might insert their input as well… An HOA, or Homeowner’s Association, is an evil group of people designed to make residents’ lives challenging– Oh, excuse me. I meant it’s “an organization in a subdivision, planned community, or condominium building that makes and enforces rules for the properties and residents”, according to Investopedia. But in reality, HOAs are notorious for implementing and enforcing outlandish rules and regulations and responding swiftly with hefty fines any time a resident refuses to comply.
Down below, we’ve gathered some of the most annoying examples of HOAs exercising their power over residents that homeowners have shared on the Mildly Infuriating subreddit, so you can either relate to their pain or count your blessings if you live in a non-HOA area. Keep reading to also find an interview with the hosts of The HOA Show podcast to hear their thoughts on the topic.

Celebrating Pride Despite Our HOA Not Allowing Pride Flags. They Don’t Regulate Yard Lights Though, So... There’s Always A Loophole
Hey my name is Beck :) my apartment complex doesn’t allow any kind of flags at all, so I hung up a couple cloth rainbow napkins on my patio! No one has said anything but if they do, I mean, they’re not flags, they’re napkins :)
Load More Replies...Really don’t get this. Having other people say what you can or can’t do on your property, in a country where it’s all about freedom?
What you also don't get is that living in a neighborhood with an HOA is a choice you make. Not every neighborhood has one
Load More Replies...I don't understand HOAs. You bought the house and the land it sits on, whether you're a leaseholder or a freeholder, therefore, as far as I understand it, it's your castle. How can they dictate what you do to it? Do they tell you which kinds of clothes you can wear as well? I just don't understand.
Nor me. HOAs are such a bizarre concept. I know we only see the worst side of them, but is there a good side??
Load More Replies...One of those times when the workaround wound up better than the original idea
To gain some insight from the experts on HOAs, we reached out to the hosts of The HOA Show podcast. First, we wanted to know what inspired them to create their show. "Since its inception, this podcast has been an endeavor underwritten by Cline Agency Insurance Brokers," they told Bored Panda. "Education has always been of upmost importance for the Agency, and because we found ourselves being frequently asked the same questions by different clients, we wondered if there was a way for us to compile the information into one, easy to understand place, so that we could readily pass it along to Board Members and Community Managers. It quickly became apparent that podcasting would offer that perfect marriage of accessibility and reliability for sharing valuable information."
We also wanted to hear about some of the worst HOA stories they had ever heard. "Sadly, there are too many to list," the hosts shared. "In terms of severity, the stories are never sadder or more severe than when the actions or inactions of a Board of Directors lead to serious injury or the loss of life. We’d recommend that folks tune in to our spin-off podcast 'Love Thy Neighbor', essentially a True Crime Mini-Series on Community Associations. We have four episodes already out that detail some of the worst moments of a Community Association’s life. Warning, they can get pretty dark."
The Hoa In My Friend’s Neighborhood Recently Threatened Her Neighbors With A Fine If They Didn’t Hide Their Trash Cans. They’ve Been In The Same Spot For Over A Decade
We also asked the hosts if they think HOAs are overall a negative or positive thing. "Community Associations have the opportunity to be one of the most positive experiences that people can be a part of," they told Bored Panda. "Human beings are communal by nature. We seek and crave strong communities. And when you have a group of wonderful people, all volunteering their time on behalf of the community, with the main intention of making their community stronger and better, then you have a winning recipe for a positive experience. But those volunteers must be putting the needs of the community above their own. We call this Fiduciary Duty."
"When you have Board Members, Volunteers, or just members of a community that place their own needs above those of the community, that’s when you’re most likely to have a negative experience," the hosts explained. "When personal agendas and vendettas are the motivating factors behind people’s involvement and decisions, you’ll inevitably foster a feeling of hostility and resentment from those folks who are harmed or simply left out by the clearly selfish choices of those few individuals."
HOA Violates Your Property Rights
I'd tell her that her breathing is a disturbance and must be stopped, effective immediately
It’s especially hilarious that this happens in the land of the free, where they have guns to protect them from their own government, yet Karen can forbid you from drying your clothes on a line.
HOAs are voluntary, no one forces you into them, nice try though

Thank goodness I live in Australia. HOA is an abomination to everyone who owns their own home.
Most neighborhoods in the U.S. don’t have an HOA. You know, before you buy a house, whether it’s an HOA neighborhood, so you choose to be part of one. I would never be part of one, personally.
Load More Replies...Do you have to sign up to their idiot charter, or do they just dictate what you can and can't do? I don't get it at all. We don't have such things where we live.
Many new neighborhoods have an HOA, usually set up by builder b/c the town doesn't want the new neighborhood to bring property values down, so the builder sets up an HOA. If you want to buy a house in the new neighborhood, you have to agree to the HOA. We just moved and our new neighborhood has an HOA. We love the house, love the area but the HOA is a drag. You can't change the landscaping in the front yard w/o their written approval and submitting a form for approval costs $25.
Load More Replies...Lastly, the podcast hosts shared, "Over the course of producing this podcast, one of the things we’ve been so grateful for are all the guest experts who have participated in these podcast conversations. Without exception, all the experts who have donated their time are considered by the industry to be exceptionally qualified and experienced in their respective fields. Their guidance and expertise have undoubtedly helped thousands of communities."

Head Of Hoa Lives Across From This Guy And Was Giving Him A Hard Time About The Appearance Of His House. So He Painted His House Pepto Pink Out Of Spite
If you’re not familiar with the concept of HOAs, count your blessings. They are not inherently bad, but particularly in the United States, they have gained a reputation for implementing ridiculous regulations and charging their residents outlandish fees for simple things. There’s currently a drought happening, so your grass is dying? We don’t care, here’s a $50 fine because your lawn is unsightly. You painted your garage door light blue? That’s not an approved color. Here’s a $200 fine, and you have one month to repaint it before you are met with another fee.
In theory, HOAs ensure that a neighborhood is neat and tidy and that residents have somewhere to go to voice their complaints, but in practice, they tend to cause more issues than they solve. It’s great to have an organization in place to decorate the neighborhood with lights during the holidays and host community parties at the neighborhood pool. But is it worth the enormous fees and having to comply with strict rules? Many homeowners would say, “Absolutely not.”

We had a rough collie who was a 6 month old puppy till she died.

Not in the US. All you might be awarded is vet bills and the "replacement value" of your dog (cost of a new pup and maybe the cost for specialized training, if it was a service dog), maybe your attorney's fees, but that's all only if you win. As someone else said earlier, legally speaking, pets are chattel (personal property) and not family members, so no pain and suffering award. Not saying I agree, just explaining the way the courts would view that type of suit.
Load More Replies...The crazy thing about HOAs is that although many residents don’t even support their presence, they are still required to financially support them. Just how expensive HOA fees are depends greatly on the neighborhood, city and state a homeowner lives in. But at the state level, HOAs in New York and Hawaii charge the heftiest fees, averaging between $520-570 per month. And when it comes to the state that charges the lowest HOA fees, that would be Wyoming, with an average cost of $100 per month.
It’s absurd to think that these homeowners are all essentially paying the cost of renting another apartment, or at least a bedroom in one, just to keep the people in charge of their neighborhood satisfied. In 2019, the average monthly HOA fee in the United States came out to $290, which was $40 more than the average monthly cost of utilities for Americans. But instead of paying for heating, water, gas and electricity, these residents were paying for someone to keep a close eye on them all and hand out fines every time a trash can was visible or an 'unsightly' car was parked on the street.

My HOA sent me a nastygram one day which included a picture of me feeding one of MY cats on top of my car. Kitty doesn't like the sound of the vacuum when the cleaning lady comes so he goes out front to get away. I brought him some treats while he was there. HOA told me "You are not allowed to feed stray or wild animals" on the property. OMG --- I told them this is MY cat, not wild or a stray, and I'll feed him any damn place he wants to be fed. But they have not done anything last year, but I hope they will still do this, it makes me happy to see. Edit: they have done this for at least 6 years before.

While HOAs tend to be classified as a uniquely American issue, there are actually various organizations around the globe that monitor homeowners and residents in annoyingly similar ways. In Japan, for example, there are “management associations” in place that have presidents, just like HOAs, and serve to keep an eye on condo buildings and their residents. The president and board of these management associations are responsible for setting and collecting fees from residents including a management fee, which is intended to pay for maintenance in the building, and a repair fee, which will go to major repairs in the future. And while these fees may sound like no big deal in theory, as all residents want their buildings operating smoothly, they often become problematic.

An Hoa Fined Woman $100 For Moving Her Car After A Snow Dusting Leaving Behind This Lovely Flurry Phallus
A few weeks ago we got a pitiful little snow that was barely really a frost. Just enough to cause a little trouble of the roads (cause any sort of weather causes troubles on the roads here), but nothing severe. So my husband and I go out, get in our cars, and leave for the work day.
Awhile later (I don't remember if it was five days or a week), we get an email from the HOA saying we are being fined for something. They aren't very specific at first, but they are saying it's about the snow and our cars. We are very confused. There is not enough snow to shovel, as you will soon see.
Finally, after a few back-and-forth emails, they simply send us a picture "describing the problem". The imprint our car left in this and somehow that's our fault.
I died laughing y'all. This is the most ridiculous thing I have ever heard of being fined for, and we flat-out told them we weren't paying. Eventually, they realized we were serious about not paying, and since there were no by-laws on the books about something like this, they dropped it.
This is the stupidest thing I’ve ever seen 😂 so glad they dropped it - when you really think about it, humans are so weird, like we’re honestly just a bunch of animals on a floating rock in space, HOAs need to chill 😂
It was still falling, but as the car warmed up, so did the pavement, so the remaining flakes that fell covered the tracks but melted on the warm surface.

Dang, I wish was able to maintain wildflowers like that, absolutely gorgeous!
If condo residents in Japan find a management association’s fees to be too high, they won’t want to live there in the first place. But if the fees are too low, there won’t be enough funds available to keep the building in tip-top shape. For example, the life expectancy of a condo in Japan is typically about 40 years. After that, it becomes necessary to make major updates, particularly to the plumbing. But there are currently hundreds of thousands of condos in Japan that have been around longer than 40 years and are in need of serious maintenance. Because of this, condo owners are often suddenly met with huge fees and fines, because the building has not raised enough money to cover the repairs and the jobs have become more intense after being put off.

Hoa Requires Elaborate Christmas Decorations In This Neighborhood. This Resident Complied
How do you enforce Christmas decorations??? What if you cant afford them or you don't celebrate Christmas?
Honestly, realtors let you know when you buy on one of these streets. I have a buddy who bought on a quiet street in the valley. Each christmas it becomes "candy cane lane". he's literally joked if he didnt parricipate, theyd burn his house down and run him out on a rail. They are fanatics. Another inherent problem with these management associations in Japan is that it can be hard to find anyone who is interested in running them. Most residents have no interest, which often means that the only people who do want to be in charge become a bit too power-hungry. This means that the associations are often rampant with fraud and mismanagement because there aren’t enough residents playing active roles in the organization and keeping the president and board members in check. This sounds quite familiar. I’m sure many of the photos featured on this list would have never happened had these HOA presidents and board members sought outside opinions on the matters. But they seem to have become too wrapped up in their power, and all sense of logic has flown out the window.
Our Hoa Illegally Gutted The Courtyard Behind Our Townhome That Contained Very Large Privacy Bushes And Protected Cypress Trees
And then deal with an increase of their monthly fees :(
Load More Replies...Report, report, report to your local arborist or whoever looks out for cypress trees. Make them PAY and even better, replant. You must have pictures if they don't remember...
Not a lawyer, but I think the trouble with "make them pay" is that you get an extra assessment to pay for unforeseen costs. The HOA's money is yours.
Load More Replies...I am sure the trees are protected and they could be fined for destroying them on purpose. Their main reason was because they are so nosy, no one should have any privacy in their own paid for area! Jerks!
In the US trees are protected. We had the whole Tuba division of the local HS marching band wreck onto our property because they were joy riding on our roller coaster type road. Their insurance company had to pay for the fence to be repaired and $1100 for every tree that got mowed down. My poor cow was so traumatized that she wouldn't come out from the back of the pasture for a week.

$50 Fine From Hoa For Having A Dead Lawn (It's Rock) And/Or Excessive Weeds (None)
In some parts of Germany they're prohibiting pure rock gardens - though where I live you still see many of them. I'd personally go with the wild flowers any day, they are great for insects, don't heat up as much as rocks and basically take care of themselves while looking lovely.
Ridiculous!! I'd be sending them a bill in advance of projected labour costs to comply with this....
Hoa: Done
If you did, they would probably fine you for flying to low or be accused of looking into some Karen's window
Load More Replies...That's uneven? Come to PA where tree roots have lifted sections of sidewalk up nearly a foot.
Right? Or on my street were we just don't have sidewalks in some places.
Load More Replies...You should be able to fine the HOA for that since the probably fine you for stupid s**t.
You just know that if the sidewalk was part of someone's property, they'd be harassed and fined endlessly by the HOA gill it was fixed. Funny how when it's reversed the HOA goes for the cheapest, and laziest options.
It’s funny as if this sidewalk was on someone’s personal property the HOA would have made them fix it
So if HOAs are charging exorbitant fees to millions of people around the world, you might be wondering where all of this money is going. Well, according to Quicken Loans, HOA fees cover a variety of things including amenities like neighborhood pools and community clubhouses, municipal services like trash removal and neighborhood security, maintenance and repairs, and a reserve fund kept for any unexpected emergencies. For example, the reserve fund should cover the cost if a natural disaster like a hurricane knocks over a huge tree and leaves it blocking the road in the entrance of the neighborhood. What is interesting, though, is that not all HOA communities have amenities. I can understand some of these costs, but if your neighborhood does not have a pool, a security guard, or any grass and trees that aren’t on private property, I sure hope you are not paying HOA fees.
A Friend’s Hoa Sent Letter Requesting Kids Only Play In Park, Not In Yards

Load More Replies...Is the HOA there made up of the most obnoxious people who don't know how children work?
The American ‘perfect neighbourhood’ b******t HOAs are supposed to protect us basically anti children (or people really). They just want a movie set or something
Load More Replies...…JFC. I rented a basement suite in a house next to an elementary school a couple years ago - my bedroom window literally looked into the playground. I knew what I was signing up for, lots of kids screaming and playing and making noise during the day, sometimes before 9:00am, but I couldn’t afford anything better and did my best to make it work. It was loud but I was just fine! Sometimes cheered me up a bit to hear happy kids being goofy and having fun :) if you don’t like the sound of children playing that sucks. If you can afford to live elsewhere and complain about such mundane things like children playing, you’re probably not used to “just dealing with it” and I don’t feel bad for you.
Isn’t playing in their own yard closer to home than playing in the park?
And access to restrooms and food? Like you can’t get that at home? Lol
Load More Replies...Okay cool. Like move here, it's a great neighborhood. Tons of nice families. But we don't wanna know your kids f*****g exist... 🤷🏼♀️ who is in charge of the hoa communications and marketing? Lol
Not to sound like an old geezer, but.... what in the heck is this world coming to that your kids can't even play in the yard....
Well this seems like kids are throwing balls around parked cars and people’s windows… but as for noise, kids make noise! If they’re too loud you open your door or window and tell them to skedaddle, like a normal person.
Yeah, seems this was mostly about baseball and they asked that homeowners "encourage" the kids to do it at the park rather than decree that kids can't play in their yards. They should have left it at that, though, rather than continue on about the loud play of children being annoying, which was unnecessary and pulled all the attention away from the legit issue.

I live in a HOA. It's actually not bad, we don't have people this a**l about stuff. Our real problem is the management company. We get our lawns taken care of and the company sucks. It's a standard configuration where I live and I suppose there, as well. So I suspect that the landscapers very likely had seen it many times before

That is utterly ridiculous. If you’re going to make a rule like that, at least make it for future houses.
Legally that comment of yours holds water these “rules” can only be legally enforced on future property development
Load More Replies...I read somewhere that the HOA had to back down over something like this because the house existed prior to the rule.
The permit likely will be granted. Otherwise, this is a lawsuit and the takings clause in the constitution requires compensation.
But the Public Notice sign says no such thing. It is a proposal to REDUCE the minimum setback from the current 35 feet down to 20 feet, probably for future construction. Therefore, the current 35-foot setback for that house easily meets the proposed standard by 15 feet, so if they want to build an addition or a Porte-cochère they will now have another 15 feet in their front yard to work with.
You've got it backwards. The house is 20' from the road; the new rule says it must be 35'. So they're holding a meeting to discuss whether this house should be allowed to exist with a reduced "front building line" despite the new rule.

Another problem with HOAs in the United States is that they have become almost impossible to avoid. About 75 million Americans currently live in HOA communities, and that number has only been rising over the years. So moving into an area without an aggressive HOA might be easier said than done. If you are trying to avoid the tyranny of an HOA, Deborah Goonan of Independent American Communities provides some tips. First and foremost, they recommend renting rather than buying. While owning a home is a dream of many individuals, it can actually be smarter to rent for a variety of reasons.
“The combination of a mortgage payment, property taxes, insurance, home maintenance, and HOA fees can stretch your household budget to the brink. And if — or when — your homeowners, condo, or co-op association raises its regular fees or imposes a special assessment, the additional cost can break your budget,” Deborah explains. “Rather than pinching every penny to afford homeownership, rent a few years longer, pay down debts, and save more money for a down payment, retirement, or both.”

Load More Replies...My apt complexes new owners took our 3,000+sqft dog park and shrunk it down to less than 1,000sqft AND replaced the grass with astroturf!? In Florida, where mold and fungus is a huge problem. So, here we have an area that receives fecal matter and dog urine and rain along with the heat of a Florida sun. The rain washes the urine/fecal matter thru the astroturf where it sits, it the dark growing all sorts of nasty bacteria for the dogs to inhale. We've already had several cases of dogs getting sick. All the old park needed was two things, 1) Get rid of one of the entrances and install a dog park double-gate, and 2) Install a shaded bench in there. I stopped taking my dogs in there, can't wait to move.
Yeah, because dogs just love rolling around in rocks and frolicking in shale! Potentially slicing their paws on sharp sedimentary while lounging in the non-shade! Sounds super fun.

In my state (US), destroying someone else's trees is a legit crime that carries heavy penalties, including repayment for the value of the trees.
Load More Replies...I'll say it again - how do Americans put up with this? Our equivalent is the local council in the UK, there are busybodies here and it sometimes gets out of hand but not to this level!
Thankfully not all neighborhoods have HOAs, and some of them aren’t this ridiculous. My dad’s neighborhood has one, and their only job is to collect money from everyone in the winter to make sure their road is regularly plowed. But I truly don’t understand why anyone choose to live in a neighborhood with such obnoxiously stupid rules.

I'm Parked On My Property And I Get A Violation. F*ck The Hoa
They most likely did that s**t on purpose
Load More Replies...He parked on his own grass and they fined him? I will never buy a place that has an HOA. Never!
Where I live, (Topeka, Kansas,) it is against city code to park your vehicle on any part of your property that isn’t paved and/or gravel. The whole city! I was once reported to code compliance for parking our cars on the grass beside our driveway so that we could pressure wash the driveway. They were only parked there for a few hours, tops. It’s ridiculous!!

Deborah also recommends seeking out an older home if you’re trying to avoid joining an HOA. She notes that as of 2018, the United States had at least 346,000 HOA-governed communities. But in 1970, there were only a mere 10,000 of them nationwide. Because of this, many older homes will not be part of a mandatory homeowner’s association area. And even if they are, Deborah says that older versions of HOAs tend to be much less strict than their younger counterparts. “Pre-1970 HOAs are more likely to be voluntary-membership associations,” she explains. “That means you don’t have to join the association and pay annual dues, unless you want to. In contrast to mandatory HOAs, voluntary membership associations don’t have the power to impose monetary fines, and they cannot file a lien on your home and foreclose to collect unpaid fees.”
My Hoa Put Up Fences So We Can't Drive From Section To Section
Reminiscent of a Berlin Wall check point. Not only is it bleak to look at, it’s outrageous to restrict peoples free movement.
Ummm... do they own the roads? If not do they have permits for those gates? If not they need to be removed. Looks like they could be a problem for emergency vehicles.
In my student days there was a shortcut between my apartment and the university campus - walk down a dead end street and cross the roadway there and you were on campus. Someone decided that they didn't want students doing that so they had a chain link fence erected to prevent it. But we could still squeeze past so it was tolerable. But about a week after the fence was erected it was destroyed - somebody had hooked a car up to it in the middle of the night and just tore it apart. It was never repaired/replaced. Fast forward many years and my daughter is attending the same university. Not only is there no fence but there is now a pedestrian crosswalk (with lights).
These HOA's have gotten drunk on their power. A bit like high school
My parents used to live in a retirement/vacation community that only had one way in/out. A couple of times while they lived there, the HOA said that they were gonna be doing some work on the front entrance, and it'd be torn up for up to a week. The HOA was somehow surprised when the residents who lived there full-time, like my parents, complained--apparently the HOA was convinced that A, they only had weekend residents, so closing the entrance M-F was fine, or B, if they gave ppl enough notice, the residents wouldn't have to leave the subdivision at all while the work was ongoing.
Our Hoa Installed Some Sprinklers By The Lake Last Year. Here Is One Of The Heads A Year Later That Waters The Lake Twice A Day
Someday, I will invent a cure for stupid. Edit: Woah… Thanks for the likes. If you’re wondering how it’s going, I actually spent some time researching intellectual deficit last night, and categorized, charted, and theorized a shared root cause of eight common variations of it. There are actually many kinds of stupid, just as there are many kinds of intelligence. No offense to anyone, but I think it’s a result of cognitive imbalance of development between paired opposite cognitive functions. In other words, the famously’ditzy social hot person’ tends to lack introspective function to compliment her social skills, for example, and this can keep her from exploring and analyzing her own behavior, which cripples her/his social ability as well. You need a healthy feedback loop between two opposite functions to make good judgements based on the data each respective function picks up.
I don't get it - what do they mean? Are they talking about a fountain or something? And what is wrong with that?
It’s an automatic sprinkler system that was put in to water lawns. This particular sprinkler head is now just putting water into the lake unnecessarily (watering the lake).

In Australia is past not passed, so technically not incorrect depending on where they are from
Load More Replies...'..the storm has past...'. Past what? Past careers? Past convictions? Past relationships? The word they were looking for is 'passed'.
It's like that one thing when your parents tell you to do something right when you're about to do it, and then you no longer feel like doing it.
A friend of mine was living in Florida in 2004, the year 4 hurricanes hit within 6 weeks. The entire state was sold out of chainsaws, plywood and other disaster supplies. People were coming from all over the US to volunteer with the cleanup. In the midst of all this, my friend's HOA sent a notice that they would be fined for having fallen trees in their yard
Now that the storm has past your plywood needs to come down.
Load More Replies...Although the note is annoying it is also a Florida Law, which means the city/county/state will also ticket people who don't live in HOAs...some people left their shutters or plywood on sooooo long after hurricane season passed. And although I did love how much darker and cooler the inside of the house was, it became an issue when ever there was a fire inside the home and emergency services couldn't get in and people had less routes for escapes which caused deaths.
I hope these photos are not making your blood boil and that you don't have to tiptoe around your current neighborhood for fear of an HOA fine showing up on your doorstep. Be sure to keep upvoting the photos that you find most ridiculous, and then feel free to share any personal experiences with power-hungry HOAs in the comments below. While HOAs seem to be flourishing around the world, particularly in the United States, hopefully calling them out online will eventually lead to them become a bit more relaxed. Only time will tell... But in the meantime, if you'd like to hear even more HOA horror stories, don't forget to check out this Bored Panda article next.
Texas Couple Being Sued By Their Hoa For Feeding Ducks
Silly. Likely she is on a lake or pond that has basically domesticated ducks and is supporting the ecosystem. Feed the birds!
Just don’t feed them things that would make them sick
Load More Replies...My mother lives in area which serves as a duck sanctuary. I have never seen duck poop anywhere. Never.
Load More Replies...This is missing a lot of info. She’s been feeding for years and there are hundreds of ducks, ruining everything in the area. She’s been asked to stop or move to a pond for years, but refuses. In the end, they had no choice but to sue. This is a case where the HOA is actually being used for good.
I actually understand this one. We have new neighbors who moved in and started feeding the geese and ducks. We went from 10-15 cute ducks to over 60 super loud ducks/geese who poop in my yard all day long. There is so. much. poop.
Those are not ducks in the photo... those are geese. And yes they poop a lot! So much that it can also cause parastie issues in the body of water.. And anybody who thinks geese are lovely clearly had not gotten chased down by violent hissing goose
Every time one of them comes outside tell them to get back inside or they'll be feeding the mosquitoes. Don't go back in, then sue them for feeding the mosquitoes and spreading diseases around the neighborhood.
they can have french fries/chips(for the brits) though

I'm reminded of a case that was on (I think) Peoples Court. A woman is suing a driveway company because *some* driveways in her neighborhood were supposed to be torn out and redone--but not hers. They mistakenly did hers anyway. She sued them for what it would cost to get a replacement driveway. The defendants showed before and after pictures--the driveway she ended up with was longer, wider, and nicer than what she started out with, and because it was their mistake that they tore out her old driveway when they shouldn't have, they didn't even charge her for it. It turned out that the dingbat plaintiff was suing "because I always use a backup camera to get in and out of my driveway! The old driveway fit in the computerized borders! The new driveway is too wide, and doesn't fit anymore, so clearly they did something wrong, and I want them to pay to put the driveway back like it was!" Judgment for the defendant...
Also they need to pay for the cost of taking your land and the devaluation of the home for losing acreage.
Hoa Refuses To Remove Dog Waste After Months Of Payment. They Ignored Calls And Dealt With The Smell Complaint By Turning Each Doggie Station Into An Overflow
Actually, contact the city. It's a public health hazard. But yeah, if that falls through, get some thick gloves, a good mask, and a burlap bag. Stuff it all in the bag, deposit bag on the HOA head's front lawn. I do not suggest then lighting said bag on fire, though. Not at all. So definitely don't do that.
Load More Replies...Yep.... we were constantly getting notices and fine for every tiny stray week and for the bark in our flower beds being on the sidewalk ( we lives next to a high school so there was a ton of foot traffic from teenagers walking past our home.) At one point we got a fine because an old stray cat decided to lay on our front lawn, and sadly passed away that evening. Well, we had no idea it was there because we had all gone in for the night and hadn't been out front to see it was there. Yet they let graffiti remain on the curbs for almost 6 months.... which made our neighborhood look awful. I finally wrote a stong worded letter to the president telling her that I refused to comply with any of their rediculous standards until they took care of the graffiti. It was covered the following week.
As a dog owner and professional dog walker I’ll say just carry your dog’s waste with until you find a bin that isn’t overflowing, like I do every single day. The HOA isn’t doing its job, but there’s no need to be a petulant child and leave such a disgusting mess.
How is it that they can tell everyone what they can and can't do but they don't have to abide to their own rules?? I would be fining the HOA.
Well then dogs just aren’t gonna get curbed anymore. Sorry not sorry
Yet they would be quite to fine you if you didn't clean up free your dog! It's time they now do their part. This is ridiculous.
Hoa Recently Replaced Our House Numbers
Lmao I live at apartment #6. My neighbour across the hall, #5, is missing the physical metal house number on their door. I came home the other day to find that maintenance had removed the physical #6 from my door and replaced it with a physical #5 - the real apartment #5 is still missing their number. It has made ordering food really awkward 😅
Those are just there temporarily. The garden gnomes will be by some night soon and paint the numbers in lovely colors.

First of all, no. Second of all, 6:30 on a weekend? Bahahahaha... no. Third of all, no.

I mean- I don't know the setup here but shouldn't kids be playing in the yard and not the street anyway???
Send it back with the addition “ you can use this as toilet paper!”
You'd get fined for improper use of a toilet
Load More Replies...Two things 1) one of the great things about kids is that they're mobile, unless they have sports equipment blocking the street I don't see how this is an issue. 2) kids in the street probably have enough sense to move out of the way of cars and drivers probably have enough sense to not run over kids. (I added "probably" to both because it's unrealistic to believe there isn't someplace with kids too dumb to move and drivers to dumb to pay attention)

The Ops fence (green), had another fence put up around it (The shorter one), just before the op was going to clean his.
Load More Replies...And why put up a fence when there's already another (and bigger) one there?
I think they mean: “ My Hoa Put Up A Fence. The Week Before I Stained Mine”
No, you can see the side facing the concrete wall is unstained. It'll be a pain to stain it now.
Load More Replies...The HOA fence looks like garbage. The top rails are severely skewed where they intersect, and are fastened to the posts from the top down (which allows rainwater to intrude into the posts) This will be rickety and falling apart in no more than 5 years. The original fence would easily last 50 with occasional maintenance.
Now you only have to stain the other side. Also, why would you break your own fence with the hose for staining? Never mind I see they probably were planning on cutting the top part off to make it level? Weird.
I find it hard to believe that people tolerate the existence of HOA's! To me they seem like a bureaucracy gone mad! For a country that seems obsessed with freedom to the point of allowing mass school shootings because they must have the freedom to 'bear arms' it's hard to understand how you tolerate such restrictive HOA's!!!
They're not really even a bureaucracy in most cases, they're just a bunch of neighborhood busybodies with the contractual power to dictate what you do with your property. The only way to purchase a house in many neighborhoods is to agree to the contract. In my area, nearly all middle-to-upper class neighborhoods have them, but we refuse to live in a neighborhood with a HOA, so we live in a lower-to-middle income neighborhood with a higher crime rate. I'd rather deal with crime than with a HOA.

If you're not paying my mortgage, you don't get to impose random rules regarding my property. HOAs should be made illegal. They're garbage dumps for people who thrive on imposing control over others because they have no control over their own lives.

Where we live is very rural & have a HOA, also rural. We pay $100/year. It helps pay light bill at our small boat ramp & the pavilion area.
