This is not as rare as some people think. When new bills are printed and sent to be distributed by the Federal Reserve to the banks, they put them in bundles of 100 bills with their serial numbers in sequential order. All this means is the ATM or cash drawer had a stack of bills that are entering circulation for the first time.
