6 Photos Showing My Progress From When I Started Teaching Myself Photography Last Year To Now
In late 2015 I started teaching myself photography by watching YouTube videos and just going out and practising and experimenting.
I don't really consider myself a photographer, I've always been artistic and saw photography as more of an art form. So I try to refrain from taking the typical 'look at the camera and smile' portraits, instead, I think of it more like a painting. I think about composition and how to tell a story, and I've found candid photos do that the best.
Here are 6 photos that show my progress so far. All of the 'then' photos were taken in late 2015 and the 'now' photos were taken in the middle to later 2016.
I still have so much to learn! Follow me on my journey and see more of my work on my website!

I like almost all the photos. I think it depends on what you are trying to capture. The later ones are more about atheistic, but the earlier ones seem to be more about capturing the person. I like the one with the girl with the mug. It's unique and has a nice warm emotion response.
Thank you so much! Yes, we still cherish the then photos, they are memories that we love and relate to. But I'm leaning on making my photos more artistic now so everyone can relate to them and cherish them also.
Load More Replies...I've always been fascinated by photography and wanted to learn its techniques but didn't believe i can do it on my own! but now there is hope after all
There is absolutely hope!! Believe me when I say, if I can do it, so can you! All you have to do is start. You can do it, I'm rooting for you! :)
Load More Replies...I meant cars lol! Portraits are a new-to-me challenge, one I hope to get a handle on :)
No sire, I use all natural light.
Load More Replies...I too, am trying my hand at photography. I am more comfortable with auto's lol. I really like your improvement!
Thanks Dale! You should really consider playing around in one of the auto modes, It wont take long for you to start to understand what the three exposers do, and it will open up a whole new world to you! The algorithm in auto mode doesn't know what kind of photo you are wanting to take.
Load More Replies...I actually like some of the older ones more. A few new ones look over exposed to me.
Thanks for your input, I like them both too but I'm always experimenting and trying new things.
Load More Replies...Looks like you tried new things layer on but the early ones are very nice as well!
