Isis and Osiris

Look, there’s love, and then there’s have-your-widow-piece-together-your-body parts-after-your-brother-murders-and-cuts-you-to-pieces-which-he-throws-all-around-Egypt love.

The story goes that Osiris’s brother wasn’t too happy that he wasn’t ruling Egypt instead of Osiris, so he had him killed.

Isis not only managed to piece together Osiris, she also managed to have a son with him, Horus, who’d later challenge Set and avenge his father’s murder.

Cool? Cool.

Cleopatra and Julius Caesar

Hollywood’s favorite queen Cleopatra developed a nice romantic relationship with Julius “Et tu, Brute?” Caesar. The relationship probably ended after Caesar decided to get assassinated. They had a son who was called Ptolemy XV Philopator Philometor Caesar, AKA Caesarion.

Julius loved her so much that he decided not to annex Egypt, but instead back her as queen, and after the Battle of the Nile, he restored her rule and left for Rome leaving 3 legions to maintain order.

Nefertari and Ramses the Great

Alright, so Ramses the Great REALLY liked his wife Nefertari. Forget about the occasional box of chocolates and flowers or cooking a meal, this guy had stuff built for her, as well as constantly speaking well of her.

He had several wives (about 200 to be exact) but she was his first true love, he wrote her poetry on the chamber of her burial site, ordered the construction of statues for her as big as his (which is a big thing as the pharaoh’s had to be larger at the time). Check out this line he wrote for her “My love is unique – no one can rival her, for she is the most beautiful woman alive. Just bypassing, she has stolen away my heart.”

Question is: What have you done lately for your lady?

Cleopatra and Mark Antony

After Julius Caesar was stabbed a whole buncha times, Ms. Cleo decided to get it on with Mark Antony, who was at some point one of Caesar’s generals.

They went on to develop a legendary relationship which eventually made its way to being the theme of Shakespeare’s play “Antony and Cleopatra.”

It also partially inspired the 1963 film “Cleopatra,” which was a pretty crazy film when you think about it with all the nice sets, sweet costumes, and Elizabeth Taylor and Richard Burton playing Cleopatra and Mark Antony.

Mark Anthony had three kids with Cleopatra, he loved her so much that he ended his alliance with Octavian, and donated the lands he conquered to his kids. With lands stretching as far west as Libya, and east to Armenia, he proclaimed Cleopatra as Queen of Kings and Queen of Egypt.

Tutankhamun and Ankhesenamun

Being a senior princess in the land of the pharaohs, her father died leaving her with the obligation to get married to Tutankhamun. Shortly after their marriage, they had conceived two daughters who died, prematurely, according to DNA tests.

By the time Tutankhamun turned eighteen, he died suddenly, leaving the twenty-year-old Ankhesenamun on her own. A widow grieving for the loss of her beloved.

She changed her name for him from Ankhesenpaaten to Ankhesenamun, as respect to the restoration of the god Amun.

He didn’t marry anyone else, even though it is not uncommon that the pharaoh would have several consorts, showing how much he loved her. Unfortunately little is known about what happened to her later on but there is a drawing of Tutankhamun receiving flowers from Ankhesenpaaten as a sign of love.
