With the help of the internet, we can learn a lot about the world without ever leaving home. The trouble is, not everything online is true. And when so much information gets repeated often enough, it becomes easy to believe things that are completely wrong.
That’s exactly why Reddit users from around the globe took it upon themselves to debunk some of the most common myths people still hold about their countries. From Australia to Albania and beyond, scroll down to see what they had to say. It’s quite the eye-opener.

Some Irish people have noticed that if they stop drinking then blood starts appearing in their alcohol system.
Look up the current Yuki Adachi situation if you truly think Japan is this wonderful, happy country. The outside world usually only sees what they want foreigners to see.
I think most of us are pretty indifferent to them. I also think that whenever there's talk of scrapping the Monarchy, a lot of us look at what's going on elsewhere in the world and think, do we REALLY want a President?
One of only three city-states (cities that are also an entire country). The others two are Monaco and Vatican City.
I've lived there for 5 years and the only thing keeping me from officially moving there, was the bureaucracy. But now bureaucracy in my own country is so bad, that everything grinds to a halt here, that I'm actually reconsidering. I know the peculiarities of Italian bureaucracy, and prefer that over my own country's.
I've lived in Australia all my life and have never been the slightest bit afraid of our wildlife. I do however think it would be scary to go walking in a forest where there might be a leopard or bear!
Maybe they think the people are running to get away from the wild animals.
There is a nasty element of racism and right-wing values in Australia. Anti-vaxxers, conspiracy theorists and Trump admirers are making things worse. We could well end up like the US if we're not careful
We germans joke that Bavaria is infact a foreign nation accidentally being part of Germany
I am convinced that Estonia is actually mostly made from drinking water. Like a sponge. And if we did not clean our draining ditches regularly, the entire country would turn into a swamp in less than 10 years - the source: me having to go hunting on "dry land" (Ha!) in fishing boots up to my hips and that WITH working drainage ditches. But I am constantly surprised by how backwards other countries are in the IT. Like someone wrote here that they have to bring a PAPER to their PHYSICAL registration office to register a vehicle??? Like in the 19th century???
So do you ride the camels to Pizza Hut, or is that just for delivery?
Sadly, your average pro-independance Scot doesn't want to hear that. They like to blame England for everything, and talk about how oppressed they are, how they're being forced to live in a dictatorship and believe that they don't spend more of UK money than they pay in.
Studies in the 80's demonstrated that no economy can function without an organized underworld. Mafia will always remain.
Hungary had it bad during Covid. Worst country in the world for Covid deaths on three separate occasions.
So what are you guys doing during the "siesta" shop closings between 2 and 5PM?
But as I understand, lots of corruption and too many tourists have perished under mysterious conditions?
If UNICEF for example is to be believed, the current crisis comes with about 20 million people who suffer from starvation, mostly children. Do we better believe "Anonymous", a single "African from Sudan"?
The stereotype that India is some sort of dystopian hell for women and no woman can be happy there. Oh shush! India is a great place to live for all genders. While I admit there are some problems here, most other countries have these problems too so don’t go nitpicking and pointing at India only. Oh the other hand, one positive stereotype is about the food. It is very much true that India has amazing food. Plus, India’s cuisine is very accommodating to people of various allergies and food preferences. I have allergies and intolerances myself so Indian food is almost the only cuisine I can eat without being sick.
I was so in love with the food and the people, yeah we had a few shippy 💩 people but the majority were absolutely the loviest people!! I only hated one thing which was the noise and regular pollution 😖 wish it was allowed to post pictures of the sweetest people whom i took pics of (ALWAYS asked before taking!) the smiles ❤️
