To be absolutely honest, I never really understood the whole point of cheating. If a person really wants to be with someone else, why would they pretend to be interested in their partner? It just creates unnecessary drama, but I guess some people enjoy making others miserable.

Just look at this guy who argued that having a female coworker’s legs draped over his lap was “no big deal.” His wife vented online about how he ridiculed her when she got suspicious, but slowly she uncovered all his dark secrets and confronted him. Read on to find out what happened!

Discovering a partner’s affair can be devastating for anyone

Many people get so caught up in their marriage that life seems pretty perfect until something unexpected hits. In fact, when folks think that they have the best partner, believing something untoward about them can be difficult. Especially when a person is in love and suddenly they notice signs of infidelity by their spouse.

Obviously, it can be hard to digest. But affairs and unfaithful behavior are not unheard of. After all, according to a survey, 23.2% of men indicated that they had cheated on their current partner, knowing that it could jeopardize or hurt their relationship. However, just because it’s so common doesn’t mean it hurts any less.

Experts at Verywell Mind emphasize that being cheated on by a loved one can be emotionally devastating. It can traumatize you and make it difficult for you to function. So much so that the experience can be similar to having PTSD, so they call it Post-Infidelity Stress Disorder. Also, anywhere between 30% and 60% of people who have been cheated on have experienced its symptoms.

In some cases, this pain can be so long-lasting that people are unable to get past the hurt even after divorcing their spouse. I mean, they have pictured growing old with this person, so it can be shocking when their trust is suddenly broken so brutally. Besides, it’s not like staying with a cheater is a healthy option either, even though some people choose it.

However, a study has revealed that someone is three times more likely to cheat if they have done so in the past. Such people can be skilled manipulators, as they know which tricks to use and can keep someone around even after their unfaithful behavior. Unfortunately, partners can fall for their vicious tactics.

Cheaters often use gaslighting as a manipulative tool when they are caught

Gaslighting is one such manipulative tool that cheaters often use, and it can totally mess with their partner’s mind. Clinical expert Robert Weiss explains, “Gaslighting is a form of psychological mistreatment used to get away with bad behavior. One partner persistently denies the reality of the other partner, causing that person, over time, to doubt her (or his) perception of truth, facts, and reality.”

No wonder the poster felt ridiculed for doubting him. Research highlights that gaslighting can affect a person’s mental health gradually until it ultimately builds up to confusion, heightened stress, trauma, and issues such as anxiety, depression, low self-esteem, self-doubt, and in some extreme cases, psychosis.

It’s honestly really cruel of a person to inflict so much pain on a partner and play harmful mind games to avoid facing the consequences of their own actions. Also, it’s quite unbelievable how some of them throw the “it was just one time” line, as if it justifies their behavior and makes the pain any less.

The author’s update was very painful, but at least she got rid of the red flag. Netizens expressed their sympathy, but cheered her for divorcing him. What are your thoughts about it? If you see a photo like that and you go straight to confrontation, you already know there's no trust in the relationship. It wouldn't matter if he'd slept with her or not, that much suspicion means it's time to move on.

I don't think "random woman's legs draped fully over his lap" is something equivalent to, say, a group photo of him with co-workers and his arm is around a female co-worker in the photo. That second example would be one that I would say is "overreacting" if OP freaked out and confronted him about it, but the actual photo she saw? NOT overreacting. That's not about a lack of trust in your relationship. It's not good to get suspicious about a photo of him just standing with a female co-worker. It IS totally legit and fair to get suspicious about a photo of him with some other woman's legs draped fully over his lap. That's not just "friendly co-worker" levels of touching.
