As humans, we’re wired to find cuddly and small things cute, which is probably why we’re so drawn to animals. Our brains also release hormones like oxytocin when we play with adorable creatures, which helps create a deeper connection with them. That’s why it’s no secret that we always want to get to know them better and integrate them as much as possible into our lives.
This is exactly what spurred a thread on X after a woman named Erica was told a random animal fact by a kid. She then asked everyone else to do the same, and that led to a whole list of crazy and amazing factoids. We’ve included a lot of them in this post just for your amusement.

I wish a happier photo had been chosen, even if this is the way of life in the wild.
Most people only talk about cats and dogs, but reindeer have been waiting for a while for their time in the spotlight. According to Treehugger, a modern sustainability site, reindeer eyeballs turn blue in winter, which helps them see better in low light. No other mammal can do this, making it a cool scientific marvel.
In the summer, their eyeballs are golden-colored, and scientists presume that this iridescent color change occurs when pressure inside the animal’s eye builds and gets squeezed out of an area called the tapetum lucidum. That’s the shiny, mirrored layer behind the retina that allows certain animals to see in the dark, and in reindeer, apparently, it also turns blue.

Every creature on the planet has something cool they do that seems impossible, and one example is the armadillo, which is apparently bulletproof. BBC Wildlife revealed that armadillos’ bodies are covered in bony six-sided tiles called osteoderms that have been observed to deflect bullets in some instances.
The story behind this was that a Texan man was hit in the face with his own bullet when it bounced off the armadillo he was trying to shoot at. This animal’s tough exterior inspired the Aztecs to call it āyōtōchtli, which means “turtle-rabbit.” Each tile on its body is hard and bony but covered by skin and keratin, held together by tough, flexible collagen fibers.

Australia has a type of ant that tastes like lemon if you very gently touch your tongue to it....
....which you probably shouldn't do, btw, at least not without having a professional guide present. In my case, we had a guide. I hope the ant was ok.

If you have ever seen a weird-looking pig with a short and flexible nose trunk, chances are you have come across a tapir. This large, plant-eating mammal has been around for 20 million years but hasn’t changed much. According to Hooray Heroes, which provides personalized books and gifts for kids, the tapirs are considered living fossils.
They are also distantly related to horses and rhinoceroses and are mostly found in jungle and forest regions of South and Central America and Southeast Asia. Unlike other animals, which have gone through many cycles of change and evolution, their unchanged look suggests they’ve reached the perfect form.
Birds are often seen as the kookiest creatures because of their adorable, funny antics. One such bird is the puffin, which you can find around rocky coasts and offshore islands, and it is nicknamed sea parrot because of its brightly colored bill. The WWF, a leading global environmental charity, notes that these birds are mostly found in Europe.
Puffins are already colorful, but during breeding season, they dress to impress as their orange legs and distinctive red-and-black eye markings stand out. Unlike other birds who might fly through any weather, these creatures weigh between 320–480 g, which is why they struggle during storms and strong currents.

According to Shedd Aquarium, they are considered animals because each has a mouth and a stomach, and they are related to creatures like jellyfish and sea anemones. Their giant structures provide life-saving habitats for over a quarter of all marine species.

Because of this, humming birds have to eat every 15 minutes or so to stay alive. So to sleep at night, they enter torpor. A state wher they slow their heart and drop body temperature to save energy at night.

They are also semi-aquatic and spend much of their time in the water, which helps them escape predators in the wild. They can remain submerged for 5 minutes, with their ears against their heads to keep water out.

The cutest animal on this list is probably the giant panda (not talking about us); you can identify it by its black-and-white coloring. This adorable creature is known for having poor survival skills and often falling or getting into trouble. They also reproduce very infrequently, which is why there are only 1850 pandas of them, and they’re considered vulnerable by the IUCN Red List.
This animal has one of the most interesting evolutionary traits: a protruding wrist bone that acts like a thumb. This helps them hold bamboo shoots while they munch on it with their strong molar teeth. Shockingly enough, they have to eat 10-20 kg (20-40 lb.) of it a day because of bamboo’s low nutritional value.

Otters have a little pouch under their upper arm in which they sometimes keep their favorite Rock for their entire lifetime! They lay the rock on their tummy floating on their back and use it to slam open clams and oysters! Also, beware of river otters they will attack you viciously especially if they have a baby!

The California black bear that keeps tearing down my bird feeder in order to eat the black oil sunflower seeds has had numerous opportunities to eat me, but it always just leaves a few minutes after it sees me. It's been coming around for about 2 years now. Photo of this bear to follow.

The war was declared on them but the army ran out of ammo quick because it takes a lot to actually bring a single emu down. Unlike the chinese war against the sparrows no human was harmed in context to it. (China: Estimated 55 million victims due to pest induced famine afterwards)
