Step by step, jump by jump, the 2020 Tokyo Olympic Games are coming to an end. In just a couple of days, the athletes will abandon their 'anti-sex' cardboard beds and return to their normal regime. If we consider tirelessly maxing out your human capabilities normal, that is.
So, we at Bored Panda decided it's the perfect time to put together a new list of memes that sum up this amazing spectacle. Continue scrolling to check out the pictures and catch up on the series here.

Canada’s equestrian horse Big Ben is one of two horses inducted into Canada’s Sports Hall of Fame. If I remember correctly he actually ate with the athletes during the hall of fames ceremonial banquet.
fir what ive seen it's a ribbon with a medal inside so yes they do get a medal too
Load More Replies...First place: made of apples. Second place: made of carrots. Third place: made of oats.
TIL that not all horses like apples and carrots! Admittedly, you don't see a lot of tropically bred mutts at the olympics but they eat stuff like mangos as a treat. They'll not even try the apple. So we need some trophy variety here :)
Load More Replies...My opinion is the riders should just jump over those hurdles themselves.
They have that in track and field. It’s called hurdles.
Load More Replies...They do, they get a medal, but at some point, a horse did himself serious damage when he spooked bc it banged the nerve above hood sue, causing serious reduction is sought, so they no longer wear the medals at the ceremony
Load More Replies...Horses don't care about medals- maybe some extra carrots, brushing/massage treatments and some extra pasture time is definitely in order! I'm betting the regular equestrian team horses all got pampered AF, winner or not. ( though I'm not sure about those awfully ridden/abused horses in the Modern Pentathlon. Those horses deserve a freaking retirement and a massive apology! Such a horror show)
I'm gonna be *that* person and say it: I don't think there should even be equestrian events. One of the horses injured its leg and had to be put down on the first day of events! A medal doesn't quite cover it :(
Indeed! And it seems to work in most languages!
Load More Replies...In 2013, when it bid for the 2020 Summer Games, Tokyo estimated it would spend $7.3 billion. However, by summer 2020, an Oxford economist told the Associated Press that Tokyo’s costs had already more than doubled to $15.84 billion and became the most expensive Summer Games on record. Local organizers have disputed that number but they admitted in December 2019 that costs had risen to $12.6 billion.
Competing estimates from a national audit board and national newspaper are even higher, saying it could be nearly $30 billion.
It's "Getty Up!!"... And you hope like the dickens it does.....
Load More Replies...I know a woman who rode in some 3 day eventing, representing the Air Force. Her Percheron's halter did say US Air Horse.
I'm wondering if anyone commenting realises that this is a reference to Kerri Strug at the 1996 games who vaulted on a bad ankle (under the pressure of her coach), ruptured all her ligaments for the gold and then could never compete again. I'm glad Simone wasn't convinced by any outside source she had to compete and risk her safety.
And she is not the only one pushed over her limits by the way! Elena mukhina an amazing Russian athlete of gymnastics had also broken her leg before Olympics! She knew she wouldn't be able to prepare on time but she was pushed to remove the cast and train anyway! She broke her spine in a training due to the fact she didn't heal properly and that left her quadriplegic! The even sadder thing is that after her severe injury she said that they will finally leave her alone! Her coach never visited her after her injury and she died in her 40's after being 20 years on a wheelchair!
Load More Replies...Imagine being angry that the best gymnast in the world, who represents your country, needed to stepped back for her own mental health, and you feel entitled to throw a fit and demand she be removed from the team while screaming she hates America, because she didn't perform for your entertainment. The way Americans have vilified and attacked their own teams in the Olympics this year, cheering when our own teams lose, is one of the most embarrassing things I've ever seen.
Not just Americans. Piers Morgan (a Brit) was hatefully vocal about this. He has a track record of callousness when it comes to mental illness.

Load More Replies...Save the olympics? The US got loads of medals so far without her. Even if they don’t have any gymnasts at all, they have like three dozen medals in swimming alone.
Exactly. But the way some folks were carrying on you'd never have guessed
Load More Replies...And all these armchair couch potato wannabes talking smack about it, makes me angry and sad.
Of course, these Olympics are special. The city had to postpone the Games for a year after Covid-19 made hosting the international event impossible, and to top it all off, the city won’t receive the tourism boom that usually accompanies the event.
But a 2020 paper by Oxford economist Bent Flyvbjerg discovered an interesting fact: "every Olympics since 1960 has run over budget, at an average of 172 percent in real terms, the highest overrun on record for any type of megaproject."
In other words, there might be something wrong with the Olympics bidding process as a whole.
" All eyes are on the contestant who will be attempting a triple antennae twist with back feeler spring.!"
Human eye is trained to pick up these tiny movements and the game might have been boring...
Flat Earthers should go to space themselves to see what the earth is really like.
Why waste money on suits and space ships on them?
Load More Replies...Taiwan isn't at the Olympics it's Chinese Taipei Hong Kong and Palestine aren't countries too, but still they are at the Olympics.
As Vox pointed out, some of the supposed benefits of hosting the Olympics have come under scrutiny by locals and economists alike. Economists Victor Matheson and Robert Baade outlined the potential benefits as "the short-run benefits of tourist spending during the Games; the long-run benefits of the ‘Olympic legacy’ which might include improvements in infrastructure and increased trade, foreign investment or tourism after the Games; and intangible benefits such as the ‘feel-good effect’ or civic pride."
The Games can also provide a brief employment benefit and stimulative effect. But it's not as significant as we might think: "Overwhelmingly, the studies show actual economic impacts that are either near-zero or a fraction of that predicted prior to the event," Matheson and Baade write.
This guy was FANTASTIC - I was so bummed when he was knocked out. He took it like a true champ. The whole place loved him.
This man had the silkiest hair you have ever seen, and will ever see, in your life btw. Woo!
Sorry to be a wet blanket, but isn't it racist to laugh at people's names? Or perhaps cultural appropriation to poke fun of their name/language as a source of entertainment?
No. Languages all have words that mean something different in another language. That's not racist or cultural appropriate. We need a BoredPanda on words that mean something else in another language. My BIL cracked up the first time he saw a NO PETS ALLOWED sign on a store. He said where he's from in France, PET is slang for a fart.
Load More Replies...The most upvoted comment is someone saying what they would do. But isn't the point that it doesn't matter what anyone else would decide to do? Even if they happen to agree with what she did?
Load More Replies...I can't understand why so many people feel like Simon Biles owes them anything! She's doing it for herself, and if she's not feeling like doing it, it's nobody else's business.
As I have said to me kids forever: "Whose business should you be minding?" Answer: "Mine"
Load More Replies...To be honest, you will never be in anybody else's shoes so best not to judge too soon.
I can barely get off the sofa, there are no positions of hers I can emulate
So exactly which part of that has nothing to do with mental health? How well did you cope when you had to withdraw from a medication that you were taking for YOUR MENTAL HEALTH? Which, BTW, your comment is the first I've heard this story
Load More Replies...I thought that was cute of him, when he made the face and gestured his hands like that. All the other guys pumped their fists or made muscle poses
Pacific University professor Jules Boykoff criticized the International Olympic Committee (IOC) for running itself like a "profit-gobbling cartel."
"For too long, the IOC has claimed that the city doesn’t have to build new infrastructure, that it’s the city’s decision. Of course, host cities have to build new venues if they actually want to host the Games. Whitewater kayak venues don’t grow on trees," Boykoff wrote in a 2017 Los Angeles Times column. "In truth, the IOC chips in for operating costs by essentially laundering money from its lucrative corporate sponsorships and television rights deals. That’s all well and good, but it’s time the organization stepped up and contributed to infrastructure costs as well."
As the Tokyo Olympics plays out in virtually empty stadiums, the IOC will continue raking in profits but it's the Japanese people who will have to pay the bill.

They played along nicely ;) Although I doubt you have a choice when someone does this :) It's hilarious!
Load More Replies...to be honest....a bronze in the Olympics i a good reason to be proud...for many is the pick of their careers and the pay for a lot of hard work. A LOT of hard work and a bit of suffering too
i would react like this for just getting selected for the Olympics hahaha
Load More Replies...According to surveys the third winner always celebrates more than the second! The reason is actually simple! The third is thinking that he could easily be without a medal while the second one is thinking that he could easily have won! It's a different perspective! No idea why the first is not celebrating in the photo though
It's refreshing to see his attitude of gratitude... and enjoying his achievement!
Load More Replies...There's been a study done that says Bronze medalists end up happier than the ones that get Silver.
No. Ash just took him to a gym. If he was really on something, he'd look like a Raichu.

Besides, aren't they supposed to hold those guns with just one hand? Not sure but I thought I saw some comments about it
Yes they are. This person has never seen this sport before it seams.
Load More Replies...Just FYI, this is a fantastic example of "mansplaining." The dude is wildly out of his land yet feels entitled to give advice no-one asked for about an elite athlete who just happens to be female. It's not "just trying to be helpful," it's cringey and patronizing. Seeing as how so many people don't understand the concept, I'm going to point to this shining example and hope for a few light bulb moments.
... And her stance says it all.... She's good and she knows it! I love her confidence!!!!
Load More Replies...Here. We. Go. Again. It's against the rules for the pistol competition athletes in the Olympics to use both hands! Case closed.
There was a whole article about this in Boredpanda a few days ago. They know what they're doing
Unless you are a professional shooter, you have no place commenting on if this is being done correctly!
Right...because she's never used a gun before...right. Her stance says all I can say about his comment "I don't give a f****"
Actually putting the hand you're not allowed to use in your pocket is a common and good method of keeping it to one side and making sure it doesn't interfere with your balance (or go anywhere that gets you disqualified). Everyone has a different stance because the way you focus on your aim is different (everyone's eyes are different), so whatever stance feels good and gets you results, is a good stance.
Load More Replies...And the award for the most embarrassing mansplaining in 2021 goes to...
Holey crap! First time seeing an olympic sharpshooting pistol. That grip is HUGE! Im sure they're designed to be ergonomic for the shooter and it obviously works great for her( gold medal and all) but its almost cartoonish how it looks.
OMG!!! His eyelids are like air inlets for some kind of brain cooling system.
Looks like he has accidentally hit himself in that side of the face a few times. Gotta move your head out of the way before you let it go, bud.
Just remember this guy benches over 800pounds. Don't make him mad.
He is giving his everything . His eyelids, his lips, this guy's eyebrows could throw the shot put farther than I could!!
why sad? they're still contributing and everything, and these athletes are drug-free
Load More Replies...I mentioned this to a friend that it's still Russia under a new title. They replied that the difference is these athletes aren't doping. And you know this how?
The Russian Athletes under olympic flag had to prove they were doping free. These people willingly submit to official tests just like the other athletes. We cannot say the other athletes are doping free right?
Load More Replies...Similarly in the Women's Park skateboarding, Sky Brown won bronze for GB, at 13 and Kokona Hiraki won silver at 12 (freaking 12!!!)
i am 14 and i feel like i am not doing enough with my life when i see these girls
Don't worry, you still have time. (But please be careful about stating your age on this site, some weird folk around!)
Load More Replies...I don't know, seems a little young to be in the Olympics, so much pressure on them.
It kind of makes me feel the opposite really. Like if kids are winning it then it must be something a child would have an advantage in and therefore just some kid thing and not really for adults.
Me also not realizing the boss is around the corner, pulling aggro while chasing whatever rare creature for the side quest and dying instantly :) I'm a bad gamer, lol.
Ah yes aggro that s**t got me kicked out of a pt once just cause i keep the aggro and get the def and atk rank. I mean i was a tanker but stil... 🤷
Load More Replies...Yea be right there boss, just gonna do this for some additional exps haha..
I really wish they had shown this particular sport. My favorite sports are diving and the rings. They NEVER show the rings any more. And we never get to see much of the diving, either. I would love to have seen archery and shooting, but nope.
I also don't like that they didn't show many sports! I don't know if it's my national channel to blame but i missed many sports that i like to see!

Load More Replies...What was funnier was parenthetically describing equestrian dressage as "horse dancing."
I really wish they would hold all the equestrian events in a cooler climate. In Barcelona one year they lost several horses to the heat. Indoors is ok for some of the events, but not for all of them and those are really, really tough on the horses in the heat.
? Some horses were impacted by the heat in the 92 Barcelona Olympics but none died or became seriously ill according to the FEI.
Load More Replies...Sadly, those who use classical music place higher than those who use modern music.
They do actually, though most of the time I think it's classical!
Load More Replies...Honestly, I love it when my dad talks about stuff that happened on the Olympics. I don't really care about sports, but it's fun to listen to someone who is enthusiastic about it
Exactly! I am totally uninterested in judo and wrestling, but my dad used to do both of them so it's fun to listen to his commentary on the matches.
Load More Replies...At least they do research some people just pull it from their ass and say it’s fact
I've been honest with myself about the Olympics since the 2016. My whole life until then I would complain about the Olympics until they started and then I would watch them in 16 hour blocks, and then started complaining about them again afterwards. I finally realized its ok to only follow something casually. Watching the NBA every night isn't a requirement to take a kid to the Harlem Globetrotters and having no idea who the US curling team is doesn't make it less addictive every 4 years.
That "kid" who won it looks like he escaped a "One Piece" anime then found Waldo.
Wait, what? My 4 year old was too busy watching Bluey for me to watch the Olympics.
Load More Replies...There are a ton of them. I find it humorous that the best athletes in the world are choosing songs that I only know because I have no athletic ability.
I wonder how long they considered using the Mario Bros music for Italy before they let it go.
Reminds me of one time I was in a café in Paris next to a guy reading a book on how to learn swimming. I don't understand why these books exist
Every time in the pool as a kid I would do "my" solo synchronized swim routine.
I may, or may not, still do this as a grown adult when in the pool.
Load More Replies...The runners who are behind him crossing the finish line! In the 200m this Olympics he beat Usain Bolt's speed for that distance. And really the only reason Bolt won the 100m was because he is taller and could lean forward further. Ya, gonna get down voted on that one. But he's our guy! 🇨🇦🇨🇦🇨🇦
I always think Andre looks more like a middle distance runner than a sprinter and wonder what he could do in the 400m.
Load More Replies...The video of them nearing the finish line laughing at each other was perfect
Load More Replies...Horror movies: people, while running, always look behind them to see where killer is. NO, never do that, it slows you down! ONLY these 2 guys could get away with that.
They tell actors in horror movies to do that becos it increases the tension. Altho it makes sense to just run as fast as you can, who does the sensible thing when they're terrified?
Load More Replies...I think that's unfair, just start over. The atmosphere is so intense, they aren't trying to cheat, they are just wound up tight.
False starts can psych out the other runners. Imagine one runner purposely false-starting several times, then only he knows when he won’t. It throws off the other runners.
Load More Replies...Tiny mistakes like that suck. My cousin was at the last qualifying race for the Olympics, as in was already there... and accidentally had one foot go out of bounds. ): RIP
Of course that's the case for nearly every event. The people who medaled are the ones who managed to avoid the tiny mistakes.
Load More Replies...Yeah, it turns out they don’t like people breaking the rules.
