30 “Rich People” Things People Still Do Despite Not Being Wealthy At All
Interview With ExpertThough financial stability is incredibly important, you don’t have to be a millionaire to enjoy life to the fullest. There are plenty of things you can do even without much cash in your pocket. On top of that, if you do have some savings to spare, you can still splurge from time to time to indulge in some truly luxurious activities.
The r/AskReddit online community recently shared some of the extravagant behaviors they’ve come to love even though they’re not rich. Buying whatever you want to cook and taking frequent holidays is just the tip of the iceberg. Scroll down to find out how else folks love to treat themselves.
Bored Panda reached out to personal finance expert Sam Dogen, the author of the bestselling severance negotiation book, 'How To Engineer Your Layoff' and the host of the 'Financial Samurai' blog. He shed some light on what everyone should prioritize in life no matter their income and shared his thoughts on who can be considered to be 'rich' in the United States in this day and age. You'll find our full interview with Dogen below.

I have a adopted a black cat. That might not sound very exotic rich people stuff. But every time I look at him I can't help to think "I've got this incredibly beautiful graceful mini-jaguar in my house solely because I love it's companionship and looking at it.". Feel like a king with him.
Nope. We tabbies have much better butts. Just ask our soft can-opener.
Load More Replies...I adopted a black cat too lol. Against everything I'd ever thought about them... but she just 'came to me' and that was that lol
Every time I leave my house I'm longing to be back home again with my cats.
I had always wanted a black cat, especially since all the stereotypes (and info on lack of adoptions due to said stereotypes) made me mad, so when I got my chance, I got my house panther girl Gertie (Gertrude)! She's vocal and sassy and I ❤️ her :)
I won’t buy crappy tires, shoes, or a bed. Don’t cheap out on what you put between you and the ground.
Some things are much more expensive when they are cheap. For my part, I would add a good winter coat to this list of things for which you must invest in quality.
Yes, just hope you don't have to "put [that] between you and the ground."!
Load More Replies...I'd also add: don't cheap out on the braking system maintenance either. Good tires are useless without good brakes, and vice versa. Years ago, when money was really tight, I might postpone an oil and filter change, but tires and brakes were always in optimal condition.
I'm with you on that, but for me I also add bras!!! "F" cups deserve support.
Oooooh, I very clearly remember the first time I bought a brand new bed. I think I was in my early 30s. It made me feel so grown up.
Chinese tires (from a reputable retailer), Crocs, camping hammock. I have always had good times with "cheap" Chinese tires from reputable enough retailers. I get plenty of miles, plenty of traction, no weird issues or blowouts. Crocs are the most comfortable shoe under $100 that you will ever put on your feet. Want more comfort? Socks with Crocs. F**k the haters. Camping hammock with a heavy duty indoor stand is what I have slept on for literally years now. I buy a new hammock for like $20 every year or so and I sleep like a rock. Good for my back too and keeps me in better shape having to climb into and out of it.
I do buy cheaper tyres, but they're changed every 6 months between summer and winter. The guy who changes them (I can *technically* do it, but the guy who does it is a friend, so I give him my business) checks them every time and recommends when it's time to upgrade. They wear out faster than higher quality tyres, but it's what I can afford at the time, and the regular checks help a lot.
I tip servers like I’m rich because I used to work in the restaurant industry and I know all to well how brutal it can be
I hate how fast food restaurants ask for tips now too.... just pay your employees!
I tip 10%. But I live in Bulgaria, tipping is optional here and I just like to give.
Tipping is also optional in the US but I try to tip at least 20% on dine-in services.
Load More Replies...Just legislate a fair minimum wage. Most workers earning similar salaries don't have the opportunity for tips, like factory workers. Make tipping obsolete and force employers to pay a realistic salary instead. We don't tip usually in Europe because we don't need to. We have realistic minimum wage legislation in place.
I always tipped decently because I've worked in the service industry forever, but now that I wait tables myself, yeah, it's at least 30% if I can help it. I'm not out to just leave a normal tip anymore. I'm trying to make the shift worth it.
100% agree and same. But I still resent Republicans for setting this stage by fighting living wage and workers rights every chance they've got for 40 years. If you can't afford to pay everyone a living wage, you do not have a solvent business model. ...it's the same tough s**t, too bad approach, they have for households that don't make ends meet. ...half of restaurants would close without tip wages? Good. You never had a solvent business model. Pay up or get out; small businesses and corp America alike.
Load More Replies...I tip very well because I know what most of them are dealing with - lousy tipping customers, low pay, and now being taxed on what they SHOULD be getting based on the totals of their sales.
I lasted one day and have been an super tipper ever since!! I will lower your tip if you're rude to me or anyone in my party.
Same! I won't dine out if I cannot afford to tip at least 25%, Dinning out is not a necessity.
According to the Federal Reserve’s Consumer Finance Survey, the net worth of an average American household was a jaw-dropping $1.06 million (adjusted for inflation) in 2022.
Meanwhile, Zippia points out that there are a whopping 22 million millionaires in the United States alone. That’s around a third of the number of millionaires all around the globe.
Personal finance expert Dogen pointed out to Bored Panda that one's health and relationships are the foundation of everything. "Without your health, your wealth means very little. Therefore, spending more money on quality foods, exercise equipment, shoes, and physical trainers is worth it. As the saying goes, 'A rich man wants everything. A sick man wants one thing,'" the author of 'How To Engineer Your Layoff' said.
Food. I buy what I want and I try new stuff. I like cooking.
My Mum always told me, 'Never skimp on food. Tighten your belt on everything else but never food'.
My mom always said "You don't need food, you can eat less and buy more clothes." I don't like her advice 😀
Load More Replies...I'm pretty much the same. Buying real butter was one thing my Mom instilled in me. No matter how broke we were, we always had real butter.
The "I like cooking" part is how this is not really a rich person thing. You can save a lot of money on food by cooking at home. Even healthy food isn't that expensive when you cook at home.
It's also important for staying healthy. Our family was always on the poor side, but my mother always said we should not be cheap on food.
With food: Buy better but buy less. If we all did this, there wouldn't be the obesity epidemic, people would be healthier, there'd be less stress on intensive farming practices etc etc.......
Food is a big expense to me. I don't eat out much. I don't think I splurge on expensive food but good veggies & know how to make very tasty food with chicken & hamburger. Occasionally get an expensive cut of meat
I buy the gel comfort pens. Makes me feel I'm a higher class when writing at work. Smooth crisp consistent ink.
Frixion ink will disappear if heated (left a notebook in the car in the summer, most of the writing disappeared). Some copy machines will be hot enough to do it too.
Load More Replies...Regular old Bic ballpoint for me. Those gel monsters love to get all over my hands and get smeared everywhere regardless of brand it seems. Not worth the trouble for me.
My thermostat stays at the temperature setting of what is most comfortable to me and nothing will change that.
Replying to Pernille. Or you could invest in effient system. I know not everyone has that luxury. Years ago, we invested in a ductless system. Each room has its own units, so you can set the temperature different in each room. In the dead summer, brutal desert heat, an all electric house has a bill of $100.
Minisplits are the s**t. I love mine. Saved me money on both cooling and heat.
Load More Replies...As a child I swore when I was an adult, the thermostat would be set at something comfortable to me and not what was economical. Also, you can turn the heat on before Nov 1st if it's cold.
THIS. I've had multiple bouts of heat sickness/exhaustion, so I'm very vulnerable to further heat injury; it gets very hot and very humid (which makes it feel even hotter) in Virginia; it's not just a matter of comfort, it's very much a matter of health for me too.
wish I could afford that!!! 1.5 hours a day increases the electrical bill over 3 times!
This must differ according to some factors because I read it somewhere before and tested it. My bill wasn't even close to tripled.
Load More Replies...I won't sleep at 15 degrees in my home to feel cold when I get up from bed or before going to sleep or when I go take a shower or when I work or just relax. I won't shiver in my own home for few tens of euro more or less per month. If I can afford, I will pay for my own comfort. There are so many other bigger polluters, my thermostat set on 21-22 degrees Celsius is not destroying the planet, as angry user Pernille thinks.
I won't shiver in my own home either - I put on sweaters.
Load More Replies...I do this too. There isn't a lot of difference in cost between 65F and 75F so, be comfortable. My temp range is a lot wider though. In winter I like it around 60-65F and summer between 60-80F depending. I have made it cold enough to see my breath one summer because I was so fed up with summer.
We leave our heating on all year round, timed to come on during the morning and evening Mon-Fri, all day at the weekend, and set at 18C. Our house is very well insulated, so stays warm in between. If the temp drops below 18 it comes on,; if it gets very cold we might turn it up to 20.
It's not just our physical fitness that's essential, though. "In addition to maintaining physical health, it's important to maintain your mental health," Dogen said. "It's worth spending money on applications that help you sleep better, blackout curtains and blinds, and therapists when you are in mental pain."
On top of that, it is absolutely essential to invest in your social life. Dogen referred to the loneliness epidemic which is having a massive negative impact on people's lifespans.
"If you are lonely, I would spend more money on socializing, going to meetups, conferences, concerts, and more," the host of the 'Financial Samurai' blog urged.
Buy the good toilet paper
u/Bosslowski added:
I only buy 4 ply toilet paper because my butt deserves nothing but the best
Yep, gotta have the best for your @sshole. Seriously, bad TP is like sandpaper
We used to call it "John Wayne toilet paper." Rough, tough, and don't take shït off nobody.
Load More Replies...If your butt deserves the best, consider a bidet. I don t use pape.
I take myself on vacations. Whenever I'm on vacation, I do whatever I wanna do. I'll order a cocktail at 9 a.m. to go with my breakfast if I want to. When I'm on vacation, I don't look at the price — I just do it
If you have the money or don't care that some of your retirement money is going into a luxury vacation.
Load More Replies...My idea of a vacation is go somewhere I want, no plans, just generic ideas, stay until I have to return home. Or, just stay home. I went on a vacation with someone who planned every dang hour of their vacation and it felt like a chore.
Right. I'll never understand people that rent an apartment to go on holiday instead of staying at a hotel. In an apartment you still have to deal with cooking, dish washing, making up the beds, cleaning bathroom and toilet, ...
yes.. have eaten a pastry for breakfast at the airport... talk about splurging
We go down south twice a year and man, do we indulge when we're there... (we really take advantage of these All-Inclusive formulas). These trips are good for our souls and we'll gladly cut somewhere else in order to afford them.
I have someone clean my house once a month. Never thought I’d be somebody to have a cleaning lady but it’s totally worth it. It’s not even as expensive as I thought it would be.
But how can once a month be enough? Unless they deal with the day-to-day stuff, like floor, kitchen and bathroom, and leave to the cleaning lady the heavy duties, like washing the windows, cleaning thoroughly moving the furniture, ect...
Some people just leave windows and deep cleans or what you seldom dust for the cleaning person. I would love an additional bathroom cleaning or one for all the nooks and crannies (like radiators or closed cupboards) I skip at the weekly cleaning.
Load More Replies...I have that once a week. Makes things easier for the rest of the week, because with 3 kids once a week good clean up is required. I am really slow in cleaning and somehow can't do it well. I have pedantic mother, who can clean our whole apartment for 4 hours, it takes me 2 days and it's not even close 🤣 I've tried for years and I finally gave up a month ago. Best decision!
SAME! I don't have kids or pets - it is just me and my husband. I want a clean house but I hate spending the time cleaning. Once I was making good money, I started paying for a cleaning company to clean every 2 weeks. There is still cleaning I am responsible for around the house, but they do all of the little time-consuming stuff that I hate. TOTALLY AND COMPLETELY WORTH IT. Would actually be willing to pay more - so I give nice holiday bonuses as well.
I live in a studio, but have debated doing this once my debt is paid off. I hate cleaning! It's clearly not hard nor does it take a TON of time like a full house would, but I hate it.
You would be surprised how easy it is to keep clean when you live alone.
Meanwhile, Dogen shared his thoughts on the net worth someone living in the US right now would need to have to be considered 'rich.'
"In America, the average American household is now a millionaire. It's hard to believe, but it's true according to the latest Federal Reserve Consumer Finances Survey. However, the median American household net worth is only $192,900 according to the Federal Reserve, which is more reflective of the average person," the author of 'How To Engineer Your Layoff' told Bored Panda.
My house stays at 68 in the summer and 72 in the winter. F**k that try to keep the electric bill down b******t. I work way too f*****g hard to be uncomfortable in my house.
We'd be freezing if the house was at 68 all summer! 72 keeps it perfect all year round. If it's boiling outside I might drop it 70, but even that makes it quite cold. And I'm constantly hot because I'm a menopausal old lady! :)
I do the same, FWIW. I put the shrink film kits on the windows to help with the heat loss, and in summer I only use the ac in the area I'm using. Sweat shirts are pretty popular in my place in winter, lol.
Load More Replies...Climate protection in all honors, I won't turn down the temp in winter and risk getting sick just because of that. I like to be comfy when I'm at home
Those are very uncomfortable temperatures for breathing indoors and sleeping. Why so hot?
Once a year, I buy a premium car-cleaning package. They clean my car inside and out, including washing the interior with soap.
I really need to do this. My car - thanks to two doggies that regularly get chauffeured around - still like a kennels and try as I might, I just cannot completely shift the smell and all the dog hair.
Things like seat covers can help with that, since you can remove them and run em through a washing machine when they get really dirty.
Load More Replies...That's me too. A once a year professional job. At 79, living in a condo, it's the best way for this old gal go keep the car looking great.
I have no problem splurging on a full detail every now and again, so totally agree
Some people need more help than others! https://www.youtube.com/redirect?event=channel_header&redir_token=QUFFLUhqbVZpY3puc3VRMXZwUWFoelN6UXV1dFRFWDQxZ3xBQ3Jtc0ttczRyQU04V3F3QjZOT2R2a3JXd0xUTzItOGlDLXpWUF9Ld0xHQ3Jybk5CYmU2VEtzdHZJd0thZGdwYUhPaHpZdkNIRHJ6bVdNN3dKc2FWRGV4YVRiNXoyREpBVWNwZlphbG0td0tMbkNrUmpOcXRoaw&q=https%3A%2F%2Fwww.facebook.com%2Fthedetailguy01
Actually, this is NOT really an extravagance, just wise. You are adding to your car's life, and helping its resale value.
I have a towel warmer in my bathroom.
Not all that expensive, but holy f**k is it a luxury. Especially this time of year.
Don’t reckon it’s a luxury, it’s smart. They don’t draw much energy and they dry your towels. Had one all my life, inherited one from my parents that only gave out 5 or so years ago - got a wall mounted one now, brilliant. When we renovated our bathroom I insisted on having one
I have a radiator in the bathroom. Does that count as a "towel warmer"?
I've a towel warmer that is a radiator. Pretty common in the UK
Load More Replies...Who doesn’t have one? Starting prices are under 50 euros and it’s energy efficient, won’t cost you too much on energy.. That’s not luxury at all.
And I am thinking about the layout of my bath - I would have to either run an extension through out the room - or rewire No outlets anywhere near the tub
Load More Replies..."Given the median age in America is about 39, if you want to be considered 'rich,' then you should likely have at least a net worth above the average, which is $1.06 million. However, due to inflation, I think to be a real millionaire, a household needs a net worth of at least $3 million," Dogen explained.
"Depending on where in America you live, you might need more than $3 million or less. Here in San Francisco, a recent survey of residents by Charles Schwab revealed $5.1 million is required to feel rich. Here's the net worth required to feel rich in various cities."
Dogen told Bored Panda that his book, 'How To Engineer Your Layoff,' helps people walk away from jobs they dislike with money in their pocket. "I negotiated a severance in 2012 at age 34 which paid for 5 years of normal living expenses. It was my catalyst to retire early and do something on my own!"
I use the F**K out of paper towels!
I just cant. I feel like i am throwing money in trash. I have a roll for the realky yucky stuff but it take me a year to go through. Same with paper plates.
same here....i rarely buy/ use them.....cut up old towels and tee shirts, all go in the wash and get reused constantly. i know its only a small step but, every bit helps reduce garbage.
Load More Replies...me too. I do use cloth rags also but I'm not washing a rag that cleaned up grease, raw egg or cat vomit. I do use cloth napkins made out of scrap fabrics
Ok my comment below aside, that's totally fair lol.
Load More Replies...I can't do that it a waste and we're k***ing trees and they make our OXEGEN PEOPLE!!
I refuse to do this not for money reasons, but I feel it's more luxurious and also better for the environment to use a set of washable microfiber cloths from Amazon. Now a roll of paper towels lasts me 8-12 months.
We use it a lot. Although we do have dish rags, paper towels are more hygenic.
I used the hell out of them when I got my puppy and had a lot of accidents to clean up.
I bought some kitchen paper towels about 18 years ago, never used them. I realised I don't actually know that they are for. There is no job they can do that I don't already have something for.
What do you use to soak up grease and oil? Greasy and oily rags are a fire hazard, as regular washing machines don't get enough oil out to make them safe in a tumble dryer. Greasy rags are also a fire risk unless stores correctly.

I get my hair done. It's the one self care thing that is expensive that makes me feel beautiful
Same! I used to dye it myself (blonde) and it totally ruined my hair at times. But it was wayyy cheaper. Now I go to my hairdresser once every three months. It’s about €100 but I feel like a million bucks when I leave. And in the months to come I feel so happy with the colour of my hair!
In terms of how much pleasure it gives you over the three months, it's a bargain (I get my eyelashes and eyebrows dyed every two months)
Load More Replies...I used to get really nice haircuts. Got them for a few years. However, a couple of years ago I ended up having to cancel a lot because I was too busy. So, my hair got too long and I just started shaving my head. Much lower maintenance and so much cheaper. Can't go back, because there's a baby now and all the money is going towards her.
You get what you pay for, is the best way to put it. Never had a good haircut from a cheap place, always had a good one from pricier places.
Any tips for someone who is super self conscious about their scalp and hair and really needs a haircut, but finds being around strangers difficult?
yes.. i spend a fortune on getting haircut from my hairdresser since i dont have to tell him much.
I go into Marks and Spencer (fancy British brand) and buy things for lunch like their (hella expensive) pulled pork sausage rolls, prawn cocktails, fancy salads etc. I like to pretend I'm a fancy lady for a few minutes every couple weeks lol. :)
Every time I get the train home from London Euston (about 2-3 times a month) I get M&S snacks for the train ride and a bag of Percy pigs (their mascot) sweets for at home too. They do amazing vegan options and it makes my train ride home after a busy trip a little more fun.
Food quality at M&S is on a downward spiral. Used to love their stuff but noticed they are using substandard ingredients in a lot of their products in the past few months whilst prices have been steadily rising. It’s a real shame.
Since Brexit, we haven't been getting the refridgerated stuff from M&S anymore and I miss some of them so much! :( The mushroom pie was to die for!
How do the citizens feel after Brexit? Heard it costed like 50 years of EU membership fees to exit? (Don't know if true though?)
Load More Replies...We eat out rarely, but when my mother is here to take care of the kids, me and ny husband go out for dinner and eat sushi. It's expensive, but we have favorite restaurant, so 3-4 times per year we have special dates.
Sweetie - remember it is NOT $$ (american keyboard sorry) that makes CLASS. Hold your head high and remember you are MUCH better then many of the american rich women who are total crass (Except Dolly Parton, she may look cheap but she is a TREASURE , truly a generous classy lady)
That's nonsense, the meal deal isn't £7. And you're a twat.
Load More Replies...Let’s not beat around the bush too much: wealth certainly has its uses. It puts food on your table. It puts a roof over said table. It sends your kids to good schools and, later, to college. It helps prepare you for retirement. But until that moment comes, your riches can save time on dull tasks and help you enjoy many aspects of life, from travel to trying out new and unusual activities.
Above all else, money can afford you the freedom to choose what kind of life you would rather have. That being said, you do not have to be gob-smackingly rich (however you might personally define that) to enjoy the many things that life has to offer. Someone from a working or middle-class background is perfectly capable of splurging on luxurious things and activities, from time to time. Or they might choose to always buy quality food or clothing because they know that it’s worth investing in, in the long run.
However, just because you’re a millionaire doesn’t automatically mean that you’re wealthy and vice versa. Gratitude and being responsible with your finances are important factors here.
I take my goofy a*s pitbull to a super fancy dog groomer where he gets blueberry facials and all kinds of other ridiculous s**t. It’s all these super high end dogs people probably paid thousands for. I bring in a dog I found wandering around as a puppy alone in a White Castle parking lot. He has no idea how lucky he is that i decided to stop for some cheese sliders that night… his life could have gone very differently. Honorable mention, I don’t use a case on my IPhone. If it breaks, it breaks. That’s what AppleCare is for
I pay for the shampoo/conditioner upgrades, the tooth brushing, all those things that will improve their overall quality of life. My boy is a shih tzu mix, and I've definitely noticed that his skin is less itchy with the higher-tier shampoo and conditioner; when he's less itchy, he's a happier boy.
You never know. Our Cane Corso is a failed foster (we fell in love & he is super bonded with our other dog) who looooves his spa day. Probably not the bath part so much as he loves all the attention and stuff. All we have to do is say "It's spa day!" and that ~110lb (~8 stone) dog wiggles & gets the zooms because he's so excited to go see his friends at the doggie day spa 😊
Load More Replies...Sorry dude, I would have up voted 100x... until that last paragraph... icrap ? really dude - I thought you were better than that. but thanks for giving the pup all the love it deserves

Ikr. I wanted to treat my stray, but they wanted hundreds. And she only likes brushed in the head area. Still not able to pet her belly. Might be fun to watch them wrangle a 16.5 lb (7.5 kilo ) , semi feral though.

For me, in the UK, it's private dentistry. We have the option of state provided NHS dentistry, but I pay to go private. Everyone thinks I'm insane, but I like the service I get and I know if there's a problem I can get seen to promptly with the best care I can afford. I do not have a high salary and I don't really go on holidays or breaks away, but I'll happily spend out on my dental health.
We may have the OPTION for NHS dentistry in the UK, but try finding one within about 40 miles that's taking new patients!
There isn't an NHS dentist with spaces within an hour's drive of my town. Believe me I would use them if there was one
In my County there are 4 NHS dentists. To cover a population of 125,000. I remember when a new NHS Dentist opened in the County. People literally queued for two days outside the surgery to get on their books.
Never had any issues getting or with NHS dentists but in what might be a shock to the English, England isn’t the uk. Scotland has a separate and generally better funded NhS.
Some of us are well aware of this and extremely jealous!
Load More Replies...I would make a British dentist joke, but here in the US, our national healthcare/dental/vision is "Fuc-k you. Believe in Jesus ". Thanks Republicans. Absolute scumbags. But hey, at a leas we can own assault rifles, punish women for having sex with zero abortion policy, and discriminate against gays. Gotta love the path christian conservatives have lead us down.
No Republican ever prevented me from having healthcare or dental, I buy it from my employer. No Republican ever prevented me from having sex or making my own personal decisions over my body. I make my own decisions and am very happy doing so. My apologies if you're unable to do that, but no Republican nor Christian conservative is responsiblef for that. Best of luck to you.
Load More Replies...I'm not sure how much people understand HOW IMPORTANT good teeth care is!
I had an nhs dentist but they decided to go private. Basically it was sign up for denplan or bugger off 😧
I used to go private for my dentistry, but switched when my dentist retired and the practice went NHS. Never noticed much of a difference except metal fillings, but then you could always pay a few quid to upgrade. I know a lot of places have had astronomical waiting lists since the pandemic, but luckily mine hasn't been hit like that.
Yes, good idea as it's pretty obvious to us in the US that brits have ugly teeth.
I don’t worry about prices when I’m grocery shopping i just grab what i want
If you can do that now then you're either single or rich most likely both
I could and I'm not rich. I just don't because it's financially dumb.
Load More Replies...Well, one definition of being rich is "just buying anything in the store without looking at the price at all".
I try to budget, but if I want a nice steak for dinner (me & hubs) then I buy nice steaks.
Being rich is more than just about your net worth: it’s about your mindset. For instance, someone whose income is higher than their expenses, earns enough to live comfortably, and provide for their family might consider themselves wealthy. On the flip side, someone with untold millions who can’t tame their expenses, constantly stresses out over their finances, and isn’t satisfied with what they have can’t really be considered to be wealthy.
Similarly, if happiness is your end goal, then you won’t increase it with cash alone, no matter how much you have. Research has shown that it’s positive relationships that are the most important factor that contributes to our health and longevity.
I buy expensive cologne, even though I don’t buy anything else expensive in terms of clothes etc. I like to smell nice.
I do the same. The expensive stuff smells way better than anything you can get from Wally World. I just buy the purse sprays or rollerball of the scent and use it when I leave the house.
I've worn the same fragrance for the past 40 years (Red Door by Elizabeth Arden). It's not nearly as expensive as it used to be, but I still love it.
Me too! However, you can get these exact perfumes new off eBay for (often) significantly less than retail. I love Versace perfumes, I don't think I've paid more than $30 for a full sized bottle, all bought off eBay.
They are 99% forged, 1% stolen. A 30 ml. Versace costs 70 euro . I don't know , what you mean by "full bottle", but they are most likely not original ones. An original Versace parfum lasts for the whole day. What you can have for 30 bucks lasts max. 2 hours.
Load More Replies...I like to smell nice too. What weakness has happened to humans that some can't handle perfume scents and it sends them into tizzy. and then they put last nights fish dinner in the breakroom microwave.
Oh come on! I don't mind a nice scent on myself or others, but some people are just overly perfumed and nose deaf! If you can still smell the scent after ther person left - that's to much! ...no clue what you want with the fish.

I pay for YouTube premium.
Me too. I'm too old for all those ads, I'll forget the story! Or an ad in the middle of your favourite music, ahhhh no.
Get uBlock Origin; it's a free plugin. It blocks YouTube ads, and it works on mobile browsers as well.
Me too. My last pay for service i have. No Amazon Prime or Pandora or others. Just youtube.
Don't pay for premium there's a way to work around ads. If you're on a computer go back to the previous page you were on and then go back. The ad will be gone. Mobile is tricky though
I have it because I can download things to listen to at work AND it keeps playing while my phone screen is off. Makes the work night fly by to listen to creepy pasta stories or watch Let's Play games.
Coffee.
All about that coffee, the beans, maker, grinder
I don't do coffee. Hot cocoa on the other hand. I spent way more than I should have this month, because I get the good stuff. But I'm set for a cup every morning and for bedtime for the entire winter.
Just drink your cup and shut up about it :) people who overcomplicate their coffee have too much money and time on their hands. I'm not saying you need to drink mud water, I'm saying my mid-range coffee machine can make a decent cup at the press of a button.
Once you have had a good cup of coffee, it ruins you. You will never be able to have regular coffee again.
Yea. I splurge on coffee. Guess ill never be able to afford a house with all the coffee i drink.
best thing I brought home from my last vacation: easily the best beans I ever had. Now I order them online.my BF buys the cheapest coffee pads you can find. I wont touch that stuff under duress
My mother drinks folgers. Nothing like being woken up to the smell of burnt bitter coffe.
Load More Replies...So if you ever find yourself envying someone in a different tax bracket, consider what your social life is like. It might be best to focus on strengthening genuine relationships with the people you care about the most, rather than worrying about how you’re not a millionaire (yet). In the meantime, don’t forget to treat yourself from time to time. Saving money is important, but if you never get to enjoy the fruits of your labor, perhaps it’s time to work fewer hours and spend more time with your family and friends?
We have a garage fridge that is full of all different kinds of beverages.
I leave the fridge door open when getting the butter out even though my dad said it would cost billions and send us to the streets.
Sounds a bit pointless to me. Surely taking the butter out is a 5 second task
Owning electric companies is a pipe dream. If you kids make enough to afford a house, let alone a fridge, that'll be a blessing. My generation's greed has really screwed up this generation's financial future
The cost is not what bothers me, it's the temperature loss. Leaving the door open even a short time will dump out all that cold air making the fridge warmer which can lead to lower shelf life for contents and potentially even dangerous food. I wish chest refrigerators were a thing.
So you actively choose to waste power and reduce the efficiency of the fridge?
It's not about wasting electricity, it's about having to replace the damn light bulb
I only make about $50,000 to $60,000 a year, but I take international trips. Traveling is the stuff of life for me. I forego a lot of things so that I can save up to go on a big journey once a year.
"Only" - the UK is one of the richest countries in the world and your salary is significantly above most here
It's all about balance. The cost of living in the US is higher than in the UK. To cover just the basic needs, such as housing, food, clothing, transportation, healthcare, and utilities: A UK resident needs around £18k (around $22,000 USD). A US resident needs around $31k (£25,000 GBP).
Load More Replies..."Only"?! That's way above the average in the Netherlands. What do you have to forego to save up for an annual journey? Or what kind of journeys do you make that are not easy affordable with that kind of money?
"I only make about $50,000 to $60,000 a year" yeah, where I live, that is rich. The average yearly income for the majority here is like $25,000-$30,000. Of course, the cost of living keeps going up but not the pay. Greedy corporations trying to squeeze every last cent from people.
I'm with this one. I have friends with really nice cars, luxuries, etc. But they seldom go on vacation, opting to take the payout to pay the bills on their luxuries. And when they do take a vacation in 4-5 years, its nowhere spectacular and on budget. Me, I drive a cheap subcompact (that gives me good gas mileage), but I've taken a month off from work to visit Europe, two weeks in Egypt, extremely fancy resorts in Cancun with private tours to the ruins, etc. I could easily by a nice Jaguar, but don't. We like to accumulate memories, not stuff.
Buy name brand, expensive make up. In my defense it lasts much longer than drugstore.
This is definitely one area where paying a bit extra for the good stuff makes a difference.
I have read studies that showed where really cheap makeup is bad for your skin - going midrange is the best and actually has the same properties as really really expensive. I stopped using make up years ago - my skin hated everything I tried... and it just got to be too expensive.
Some good high-end brands imho: Nars, Too Faced, Fenty (amazing skin tone range), Clarins. Some good drug store/midrange brands: Maybelline, Morphe, NYX, ELF, Colorpop. <3
I'm not into makeup and skin products, but what I buy is Merle Norman. Lasts and lasts.
I buy small trash bags for the bathroom trash bins. My whole family uses grocery bags, but I don’t like how they always rip at the bottom.
I do too - but biodegradable ones. We don't get grocery bags so that's not an option
That always makes me laugh. They got rid of supermarket plastic bags because they were supposedly “single use”. But now everyone just has to buy bags because they can’t use the old free bags as bin liners anymore. Net use of plastic hasn’t really gone down. if you look at the stats they quote, they always say supermarket bag use has dropped massively. But they deliberately don’t say use of all plastic bags has decreased. But now everyone pays for what was once free.
Load More Replies...I have yet to generate enough weight from the bathroom trash to worry about them(grocery bags) blowing out.
I was thinking the same thing, OP must be dropping saw blades in the bathroom trash.
Load More Replies...I don't have enough plastic grocery bags to use instead, so I have to buy em.
I use the grocery bags. In New Orleans they’ll try to put a stick of gum in a plastic unless you tell them not to, and they double bag everything. Since I never remember to bring to the store when I shop I reuse them for at least something else regularly.
Come on.. Small biodegradable bags are 2 euros for 40, how is that a luxury?
I cook my dogs food. Ground beef, grains and veggie mix every week. Cheaper in the long run and better for her health.
My brother always cooked his dogs their own food. He couldn't stand all the manufactured food for dogs, whenever anyone asked about it, he would say that "companies don't care what they put in human food, do you think they care what they put in dog food?" Miss ya, bro :(
Chopped fresh meat and veg every day for 10 years for my dog. (She was 4 when I got her.) I honestly believe the money I saved on vet bills still put me ahead.
If you buy anything that is decent canned food, it is at least 2$ US. I cook for my dogs too. So much better for them.
Oh geez....u at least have to add supplements to it or its not a good idea. Your dogs missing vitamins and minerals otherwise.
Oh geez ... I imagine the doggos living not as child-replacement going to protest for their brand-named food. You know from what are the dog foods made? From the very last pieces of an ananimal, what can't be used for humans not just for food, but also for industrial purposes. Of course they put a ton of vitamins and minerals in it, after processing 99% out of it. And you say, that giving dogs realmeat and real vegetables, what are full of minerals and vitamins, are wayworse, than giving them the ultraprocessed ones..... Geez... again.

Every so often, I eat at restaurants that cost $50 to $100 per person.
We do this three times a year. For each of our birhtdays (the other one pays) and for our anniversary (we switch each year who pays). I always look forward to them.
Several special evenings per year for me and hubby and also for our oldest daughter's birthday, because she prefers restaurant instead of toys.
Upgrading to business class on long-haul flights to the east. It is so much better!
Jeez, yeh, I would if I had the $$ - pretty significant price difference between Cattle Class and Business. Moo.
Yep. I'd prefer a month a disposable income to 12 hours in a comfier seat
Load More Replies...first class is worth every dime!! I check my luggage and I do the lounge!!! Trust me!!!
Years ago, I flew to London by myself, using my wife's frequent flyer miles and her Hilton Honors points. Not long after I got there, the airline emailed me to say that I could upgrade my return flight to first class for just $40 USD. Seemed like a good deal to me, but since I'd used all my wife's points, I wouldn't have felt right taking the deal without talking to her first. She was traveling so much in her own right (she had that kind of job at the time), by the time I got her permission, when I went to the website to upgrade my ticket, it was no longer $40 USD to upgrade, but $120. I really couldn't justify *that* much of a price bump, so I stayed with my original coach seat.
Business class or first class is the only way to fly commercial. I got bumped to business class since a member of staff wanted my seat. It ruined me. Of course, more dangerous in a crash, but oh so much more comfortable and quiet.
From the looks of that one incident in the air involving poop, a bad case of explosive diarrhea doesn't care what class you are in. Especially if its trailed down the aisle.
Buy the $6 bottle of coffee creamer knowing damn well I’m on the $3 bottle kind of budget.
I can’t help it though. Cobani sweet cream just hits different.
I treated myself to a coffee machine that grinds the beans for each cup and with a high level of pressure. It was expensive, but best purchase of my life.
I'm lactose intolerant, I have no problem splurging on the almond milk creamer. It's worth an extra $2-3 to not get those oh-so-fun side effects of lactose intolerance.
Don't pay attention to or care how much gas costs.
It costs what it costs, but if you really fill up without looking at the prices you're a fool. I think it's similar in the US, but certainly here in Europe it might be up to 20c per litre (or 10 EU$£ per tankful) more expensive at a motorway service station that at a supermarket one just five minutes away.
For the most part, as long as you are not on the major interstate highways - the prices are relatively stable. I also will not drive all over to save .20 or even 1 = my time and aggravation are worth something.
Load More Replies...Not like you can really avoid it or have a choice to get it cheaper.
Maybe you don't have a choice to get it cheaper where you are, but in my part of the world there can be significant differences within just a few city blocks, or sometimes even across the street.
Load More Replies...I'm always amused when the price goes up a few cents. I'll drive by a station with fifteen cars lined-up to buy at 149.9, then go down a block and find 151.9 and, hey presto! no line at all. (Note: Canadian dollar prices per litre.)
Doesn't Mexico have fixed gas prices set by a government board? I am not one for more government control but regulating fuel prices would actually make sense.
Indulge in a Ferrero Rocher ... because I’m worth it.
😍 Ooooh - we save those 'special' for Christmas! - good for you though!!!
I pay to enjoy the lounges at airports. You get comfy chairs, free alcohol, lunch, and a lot less riffraff.
Unfortunately the riff raff comes with rug rats - and not being subjected to them is a LUXURY - now Get Off My Lawn!!!

Some days I have two sandwiches at lunch. I smile as I watch all my fellow proletariat eating their single sandwich.
For adult men most likely. I'd explode if I tried to eat 2 sandwiches in one sitting. :) My brother can easily polish off 2 Bic Macs at a time.
Load More Replies...I can't imagine eating two sandwiches in one sitting. I rarely finish a single sandwich in one go.
I sometimes buy name brand cheese instead of the store brand.
« Name brand » cheese !? Who wrote this? There is not a single decent cheese made by a brand, that’s only for generic cooking.
Flor de esgueva. It's a brand of manchego cheese, and it s a good one.president for Roquefort etc etc etc etc etc

I occasionally order from DoorDash or other delivery services.
IMHO Order from places that have their own delivery - why make the middle millionaires any richer?
Because sometimes the place you are craving food from doesn't deliver.
Load More Replies...Buy concert tickets and gig tshirts lol
UK pricing itself out of affordable concerts by not clamping down on scalpers and allowing ticketing companies to charge more in fees than the ticket at times.
It's the same in North America. I love concerts but I rarely consider going to see "big" bands/artists anymore because I know tickets will sell out in 35 seconds and resale tickets will be ridiculously priced. That said, we still go to shows fairly frequently here and sometimes drive down to the US. We just go see bands that aren't so famous. So many fantastic artists out there playing affordable shows in smaller venues. I've also come to realize that smaller, more intimate shows are usually a lot more fun than cramming into an arena with 20000 other people.
Load More Replies...The prices are getting so crazy. I never went to concerts when I was young and I really regret it. Now that I have a teenager, we go to concerts a lot more. I don't care about my credit card debt. We go see bands we all like and we get the damn t-shirts because I want us both to have the experience while I still have her at home. It helps like we like a lot of the same music!
Eat organic fruit
"Organic" only really means 'no artificial chemicals' in the production chain. The product still has pesticides, fertilisers, and chemical products in is production. The problem is, what constitutes as artificial is up for debate. For some, mixing any 2 ingredients is considered artificial, for others, 'just because a natural product is processed, it doesn't mean it's not natural anymore'. Some people have tried to standardise what organic means within the food industry but apparently, nobody can agree. Organic, non-organic... it's just different, one is not better than the other.
I valet every chance I get. I hate trying to find parking, parking, dealing with luggage if I’m traveling, the whole lot. We took a staycation at the Disneyland Hotel and they charged $65 a night FOR VALET. I self-parked and I missed it like a crazy person.
I buy cashmere clothing for winter, it's soft, warm and comfy.
Normally have to limit myself to 1 a month
Real cashmere is expensive! cheap cashmere pills up. Cashmere is an absolute luxury.
Yes, but unfortunately there are critters who like to chew on it.
Load More Replies...Invest in stocks and shares, even though the returns are so small for the pathetic amount I contribute. I’d probably be better off going on TikTok live and doing the chicken dance.
From the time I got my first real job, I put $200/month in an investment fund (as did my partner)... Even if you can only afford $50/month, it's a good habit to get into. I chose a high risk fund, and my husband chose a medium risk fund (my fund has done substantially better).
One 'rich person' thing I do is that I live in a 'luxury' apartment in a fancy part of town. My car is one of the cheapest in garage, and my neighbors probably wonder why I even bother maintaining and cleaning it. I have to sacrifice some things, but I want to live comfortably.
I went into a fancy neighborhood, which is basically the city center, that didn't even needed a car. So I sold it. it's when you truly realize how much more comfortable for you and your budget it is to live car free. All accommodations available within walking or biking distance. Spending more once can lead you to spending less in the long run.
Good for you but did you have some cash to begin with or a rather good wage in the first place? Be it to buy or to rent, where I live in Europe, if you don't have a good wage, you can't upgrade your flat just because you want to. The bank doesn't care if you sacrifice on other things to make both ends meet, they want people with a good application, which includes a good wage or enough money to pay a part of the house straight away.
I own expensive cars. I can afford the payments, but sometimes I do regret treating myself to such a high-budget vice.
I have Netflix, Prime, Hulu, and Disney+, and I don't watch any of it. Just paying for the vibes.
Agreed. I have streaming services because I watch them a lot, what's the point of paying to not use them

I am anaphylactic to several foods and medications. My thing.. I buy the correct foods, regardless of cost, as I kind of like to stay alive, and I ensure I always have a prepay prescription certificate so I can order meds when needed, not when I can afford them. Oh... I do like good toilet paper. I agree with that poster 😉
I'm similar. There aren't many foods I can eat that doesn't result in a pancreatitis flare. So when I find one that doesn't, I stick with it, no matter what the cost. Certainly cheaper than a monthly hospital stay, for sure (obviously in the US here).
Load More Replies...This morning I was complaining how expensive things were and my husband looked at me funny. Within reason, most people have something they love to spend more money on than the regular person would. I love golf, but I *always* try to do it as cheaply as possible. For my equipment, everything is second hand (either hand-me-downs or bought from the second-hand shop), and the course I use is $30 USD for 9 holes. It's just too expensive for me to spend more than that. However, I know other people who have similar incomes to me, and they spend a lot more money than me on golf. But then, that's pretty much all they spend their money on - they don't go out for meals or drinks with their friends, don't really travel (unless it's for golf), and they are single with no children. So, people may have expensive interests, that doesn't necessarily denote wealth.
