BTW, that’s not fog, that’s pollution clouding the background. I remember going to NYC in 1973, and the air not only stank, it was a kind of brownish-grayish color. I have a picture I took of the Statue of Liberty surrounded by a cloud of that pollution. I also remember the sidewalks full of litter and dog p**p. We moved to Los Angeles in 1974. I remember smog alerts where we couldn’t have PE class outside, and seeing the skyscrapers of downtown LA shrouded in clouds of pollution. Traveling into the mountains and reaching the elevation above the smog, and noticing just how clear and clean the air was. Believe me, we have made real strides in cleaning up our cities, our air, our water. I just hope the present administration doesn’t f*****k that up too, and take us back to the days when just breathing was hazardous to our health.

These are all thoroughly interesting and brilliant to see normal ancestors just living their lives. Moments lost to time but a split second preserved.
I particularly like the use of contemporary colour photography. No artificial saturation, no artificial colourisation, no Instagram filters, no false colour sunsets, no dystopian black and white, no deliberate under and overexposure. Just genuine photography.
