The Pitt season 2 is nearing its conclusion, with the finale set to premiere later this month.

On April 2, just days before the season 2 finale, HBO Max announced that Supriya Ganesh will not return for season 3.

Ganesh, who plays Dr. Samira Mohan, has been a series regular since season 1. Her absence will leave a gap in season 3, which the creators plan to fill by promoting a recurring star to the main cast.

On Thursday, Variety reported that Ganesh, 28, would exit the hit series after season 2 concludes. A source close to the production told the publication the decision was story-driven.

The series is set at the fictional Pittsburgh Trauma Medical Center, a teaching hospital where senior residents like Dr. Mohan frequently come and go. Season 2 has already planted the seeds for her departure as she considers a fellowship elsewhere.

After season 1, Tracy Ifeachor (Dr. Heather Collins) also left for creative reasons, and her character was written out. In Ganesh’s absence, Ayesha Harris has been promoted to series regular.

Harris plays Dr. Parker Ellis, a night-shift senior resident who has made sporadic appearances in seasons 1 and 2. She previously starred in the medical dramaGrey’s Anatomy and the sitcom Abbott Elementary.

After the announcement, fans quickly took to social media to voice their opinions. On X, several viewers expressed disappointment over the sudden reveal of the fan-favorite character’s departure.

The Pitt just lost its heart,” one user wrote.

A second commented, “Losing Dr. Mohan hurts, but that’s the nature of residency, people move on.”

“I’m seriously not going to watch anymore, bye,” a third added.

Others criticized the decision to write out another person of color from the main cast, especially after Ifeachor exited under similar circumstances last season.

A few speculated that Ganesh had a “massive fallout” with the producers, leading to her exit.

Ganesh herself hinted at her departure during an interview with US Weekly. When asked about where she wanted to see her character in season 3, Ganesh said:

“It’s up to the writers. Let’s see where they end up taking her.”

Given Ganesh’s exit, fans will be eager to learn more about Mohan’s fate. Luckily, some can watch season 2’s conclusion ahead of time.

The finale is currently scheduled to release on April 16, 2026. However, on March 31, it was reported that fans would be able to watch the finale ahead of its global release.

HBO Max and Warner Bros. Television teamed up with Alamo Drafthouse Cinema, a Texas-based cinema chain, for an advance theatrical screening of the final episode.
