Please communicate that to him, especially the fact that while you're feeling a little insecure, you trust him completely (unless of course, you don't, but that's a whole other comment). Feel your feels and keep checking in with him. It'll be clear pretty quickly if he's willing to reassure you or if he gets defensive and refuses. Then you have to decide what comes next.

That's why you do this... a test period to see if you're long haul compatible vs. lüst.

What's the age difference? I'm curious because the college student is probably 22 or younger and the prof is, well...not. I had to do the math on this before I figured out why it gave me the icks. To be a prof you start at 18 and get a 4 year degree, you're then 22. Add 2 years for a Master's and/or 2 years for a PhD, now they're 26. Then there's at least a year as a TA, another 2 to publish multiple papers, teach for a year or 2 to gain experience get certified, another year, and then you apply. If you're lucky you get a job offer. That makes the prof early 30s and probably older. Even if the student is in their last year that's 10 years difference and an imbalanced power situation. I'm hoping the student is at least over 21. And before I get downvoted imagine the student is female and the prof is male with that 10 year age difference. It isn't cute or fun then, just icky.

Then I suppose, you don't love her enough.... not truly and not deeply. Simple as that.
